The April meeting of the U.F.W;O.
will be postponed due to illness
among the members. The April topic
will be taken at the next meeting
which will be held on ]17th of May.
The Ladies' Guild and W. A. of
St. George's Church met at the home
of Mrs. H. Shannon on Wednesday.
The president, Mrs. Humphries, was
in the chair and opened the meeting
with the singing of a hymn. followed
by Scripture reading by Mrs. Hendry
and prayer by Rev. Hendry: The
minutes were read and adopted, after
which a solo was sung by Mrs.
'Daley of Seaforth, which was much
appreciated, Business was discussed
and further plans for the amateur
contest were carried out, the date be-
inb set for April 21st. There was a
miscellaneous shower and a good as-
sortment of aprons and towels came
in. A lovely rose colored bed doll was
donated by Mrs. Shannon and on this
was held, a dutch auction conducted
by Miss Beth Shannon. This pro-
vided fun and entertainment and a
nice sum was realized from the auc-
tion. Miss Mary Buchanan was the
fortunate bidder and won the doll,
The W. A. then held their meeting
with Mrs. Hollinger presiding. A
'Ai hymn was sung and the W. A,
prayer repeated. After the minutes
were read and adopted, business was

The services on Sunday in the 'Un-
ited Church were largely attended,
Communion service was held at the
morning service when the choir sang
a beautiful anthem, "On Wings of
Living Light," soloist, Mr, H. Hor-
ton. Mr. W. O. Goodwin and Miss
Bella Sntale sang a delightful duet,
"The Nante of ;Jesus." At the evening
service Rev, R, A. Brook preached a
very inspiring sermon on "The NeWs
Worth Passing On." Two very ap-
propriate anthems were rendered by
the choir 'As It Began To Dawn,"
soloist Miss Florence Welsh, and
"The Resurrection Garden" duet tak-
en by Misses Ruth Brook and Bella
Smale.
Mrs, Ed Fink and son Billy are
visiting with iIr. and Mrs, Fred
Peters in Fergus.
Bob Hess, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Geo. Hess, who has been in ill health
for some time, was successfully oper-
ated on at St. Joseph's Hospital, Lon-
don, last week for the .removal of a
thyroid gland in his neck, Bob is do-
ing as well as can be expected and it
is hoped he will soon be able to
return home.
The Senior Women's Institute has
been postponed one week and will be
held on Wednesday, April 119th at the
home of Miss Mabel Workman. Rev,
W. A, Young will be the special
speaker.
Mr. Kenneth Brooks of Brantford
is visiting at the home of his parents,
Rev, R. A. Brooks and Mrs, Brooks.
The W. IL S. of Carmel Presbyter-
ian Church will hold their Easter
Thank -offering in the church on
Thursday at 3 p.m,
Mrs, (John 'Johnston, one of Hen -
sail's highly respected citizens, cele-
brated her 88th birthday at 'her home
there on Friday, and is remarkably
well for her advanced years. Mrs.
Johnston was formerly Miss Cath-
erine Soldan.
Mra, Kenneth Hick8 and family are
spending a few days with the former's
mother, Mrs. Nicholson in Parkhill,
Miss Kilpatrick, teacher at the
continuation school here, is spending
the Easter holidays at the home of
her parents in St. Thomas.
Mrs, Robert Moore visited this
week in Toronto,
Mr, Fred Corbett, who has been
seriously ill for the .past week suffer-
ing from a heart attack, still contnues
quite ill,
Dedication of Baptismal Font—
A special dedication service was
conducted •by Rev. W. A. Young at
the morning service at Carmel Pres-
byterian Church when Mr. James
Bengough presented the church with
a baptismal font on which was a gold
inscription, "Presented by James
Bengough to the Glory of God in
Memoriam." The choir sang a splen-
did anthem, "Easter Morning," and
Mrs. J. W. 'Bonthron sang a beauti-
ful solo, c`Christ's Cross." A very ap-
propriate quartette comprising Rev.
W. A. Young, Messrs. W. A. Mac -
Laren, R. R. MaoLaren and James
Bengough, sang '"Up From the Grave
He Arose." Rev. W. A. Young
preached a very inspiring sermon at
the evening service and the choir sang
an anthem "Open The Gates of the
Temple," soloist, Miss Margaret
Dougall. A nixed quartette compris-
ing Miss Irene Hoggarth, Miss Mabel
Workman, Messrs. Frank Battersby
and tames Bengough sang "Calvary,'
and a ladies' quartette "'In the Shad-
dow of the Cross," was sung by Mrs.
W. A. MacLaren, Miss Irene Hog
.garth, Mrs, Malcolm and Mrs. And-
rew Dougall, unaccompanied.
Mr, Wilfred ;Johnston of the Bank
of Montreal staff has been transfer-
red to Lucknow and left last week

A meeting of the W.A. and W.M.S.
MS held in the basement of the
church on Friday, April Rh; The W.
A. :president, Mrs. E. Adams, opened
the meeting by all singing the doxol-
ogy, after which all bowed their .heads
in silent prayer, followed with prayer
by Mrs, Lindsay. The Lard's prayer
was repeated in unison, after which
alternate verses were read by the
leader and the congregation on the
Resurrection. Hymn 1178 was sung,
followed by memory selection by
Mrs. Walter Scott. Sang hymn 111:16.;
The minutes ,of the last meeting were
read and adopted. It was decided
that we have a Dinner some time in
June, Mrs, William Britton, president
of the W.M.S„ then took charge, Sia-
eat prayer Was observed, followed
with prayer by Mrs. Britton. Mrs,
Britton gave a short sketch of the
Madras Conference held in London.
Mrs. Bert Stephenson was appointed
as a delegate to go to the Wingham
convention, Mrs, Addison was the al-
ternate. Mrs. Hugill then took charge
for Group 4. After singing hymn 111848,
all bowed their heads in silent prayer
after which Mrs, Rogerson led in,
prayer. Sang one verse of hymn '1185.
This was followed by Miss Ivy" Sim-:
mons, giving the study book, and was
as usual very interesting. Another
verse of hymn 185 was sung, after
which Mrs. Lindsay gave a very inter-
esting talk on Easter. This was fol-
lowed by a splendid reading by 'Cla-
rissa Dale. The scripture lesson was
read by Mrs. Clarence Montgomery
who also gave a splendid talk on
Easter. Sang hymn 11187. Mrs. Hugi11
closed the meeting with prayer.
Mr. and Mrs. Jess James of Mea -
ford and Miss Margaret James of
Goderich spent Monday at the home
of Mr, and Mrs. Jack Ferguson.
The Club of Progress held its last
meeting in the school house Friday
evening, 'Minutes of 'the previous
meeting were read by the secretary,
jean Anderson. The treasurer's re-
port was given by Edith Britton. The
programme consisted of harmonica
selection by Ross Mann; an interest-
ing reading by Jack 'Kellar; after
which Charles Riley, Bernard Riley,
Robert Grimoldby and Ross Mann
gave musical selections, 3Lr, J. H.
Scott of Seaforth gave a very interest-
ing talk on Seasonable 'Observations.
The Kinburn News was read by
Mrs. Robert Grimoldby. Mr, W. L.
Whyte of Hullett gave an instructive
talk on Reforestation. A. reading en-
titled "Ann Shaw's Pet Jug," was
given by Jean Wakefield. Mr, Ross
Mann favored with a solo, The meet-
ing closed with singing the National
Anthem,
KIPPEN
There passed away Sunday morn-
ing, Apr. 2nd, a highly respected resi-
dent of Tuckersmith in the .person
of Thomas Workman, from a very
severe heart attack. Deceased had
been in ill health all winter suffering
from slight strokes from which he
lost his sight. Born in Stanley 67
years ago, he had lived all iris life in
Stanley and Tuckersmith. He was
married in 1004 to Susan Cudmore,
who survives, with two sons, Lloyd
of Oshawa, and (Orville at home. One
son Walter predeceased him 318 years
ago. There are four sisters, Mrs.
Wm, Butt, Seaforth; Mrs. Mary A.
Bell, Seaforth; Mrs. ]Jane McGregor,
Seaforth, and Mrs, Jas. F. Reid, of
Toronto. The funeral was held on
Tuesday, Apr. 4th, from his home.
RevMr. Chandler conducted the ser-
vice Mrs. Jas. Bonthron sang softly
"The City Four 6qu'are." The floral
tributes were large and ;beautiful,
showing the esteem in which the de-
ceased was held. The pall -bearers
were Mr. W. Johnston, Mr. Edgar
Butt, Mr, A't'f Moffatt, Mr. Wm.
Deitz, Mr. Wm. Harvey and 'Stewart
Cudmore. Interment in Hensall Cein
etery. The sympathy of the commun-
ity is extended. Mrs. Workman and
family in their sad bereavement.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Kyle spent
Easter with friends in Detroit,
Mr, Lorne Moffatt .of Regina is
spending a couple of weeks with
friends in this locality.
Several people are laid up with the
•flu, around the village.
Mrs, McDonald and Marguerite
left this weelc for Saska'tchew'an on
a two months' visit with.friends.
Miss Chandler of Blenheim is
spending her vacation 'with' her par-
ents at the manse.
A great many from the village at-
tended the funeral of the late Mrs.
McKay at Bru'cefield.
Miss Etta 'Jarrott of Toronto spent
Easter with her mother in the village.
Mrs. Win. Sinclair of the village is
improving slowly after her recent ill-
ness.
Vfr. Robt, McDougall visited with
friends in Aylmer recently.

Mr, Thomas Cooper of Toronto
spent the week end with Mr. and
Mrs. Ed Allen.
Mr. Fred Mahaffy of Scepter,
Sask., who spent the winter with his
friends, returned to his ,home 'last
week..
MANLEY
The death of Mr, F. J. McKay was
rather meager last week. He died
suddenly et the 'Mime of his son, Mr.
Lawrence McKay, Craig street, Lan-
don, on Sunday, Apr. tad. He was
'horn here 87 years ago. He had been
a resident of London for 35 years and
for 20 years he was an employee of
the city works 'department, retiring
several years ago. The funeral was
held frons the residence of his son,
Robert McKay, London, on Tuesday
morning. Requiem high mass was
sung in St. Michael's Church at 9
o'clock, Interment was made in St.
Peter's cemetery. Surviving are one
daughter, Mrs, F. Stone, London, and
seven sons, Archie, of Toronto, Wil-
liam, of Seattle, Wash.; Robert, Wil-
fred, Charles, Lawrence, and Thomas
McKay, all of London, who phave the
sympathy of the community in this
their hour of sad affliction,
Mr. Fred Zeigler front Macton,
Ont., has been renewing old acquaint-
ances of late, and he says it looks
lonesome on the old' homestead since
Mrs. John Gaffney has moved the
barn off the IIS;O-acre farm she pur-
chased of late, to her her premises in
Logan Tp.

With deepest regret we learned of
the sudden passing of Mrs. Andrew
Montgomery. We extend our heart-
felt sympathy to the husband and six
-small children in the 'lass of a loving
wife and mother.
The euchre and dance held in the
hall Mast Thursday night was well at-
tended, The prize winners were, lad-
les' most games, Miss Joy Perham.

Mrs. Jas. Stephenson returned
home from London last week, where
she had been taking treatmnts far the
past two weeks. On ter arrival home,
she found Mr. Stephenson had been
siolc. Dr. Addison of Zurich was call-
ed, who took him to St. Joseph's hos-
pital, London, on Saturday, where an
operation was performed. At last re-
port he was progressing favorably.
We hope he may soon 'be fully re=
stored to health,
Mr, Allan Keys of Western 'Uni-
versity, London, spent Easter at his
home on Babylon Line.
