The Late Jane May Marshall—
The community was greatly shock-
ed when another of our •residents
passed to the Great Beyond.=
day, Dec, lillth in the person of Jane
May Marshall, who had been in ill
health for some time and was strick-
. en with a paralytic stroke and passed
away within a few hours. Although
able to be about, she bad not been
able for almost two years to attend
her church which she had attended
regularly and loved so well. The de -
•ceased was thorn in Blyth, Dec, lath,
11SSi1, being the eldest .daughter of
Mrs. Thos. Marshall and the late
Thos. Marshall, and resided there
until she was 12 years of age when
the family moved to the farm one
mile west of Walton •on the 9th con-
cession of Morris where they resided
until 19125 when, with her mother
moved into the village of Walton
where She spent the remainder of her
life, and will be .greatly missed. She
ileaves to mourn her loss, her mother,
one heather John, of McKillop, and
one sister, Mrs. Wm. Merritt, Myth,
also tWo nephews, viz., Barry and
Frank Marshall, and tsvo nieces, Mau-
reen and Janis Morritt. The private
funeral took place from her residence
Tuesday afternoon with her ,past,or,
Rev, C. aiming, conducting the ser-
vice. Interment took place in ilhe
union cemetery, Blyth. Pallbearers
were the Messrs. Gordon Murray,
Jas Murray, Gilbert McCallum, Ray
Carter, Herbert Travis and Roy
Bennett.

The death 'occurred .in Dettoit on
Saturday of Miss Mary Purcell, a for-
mer resident of his parish. Miss Pur-
cell was lborn in McKillop township
about sixty-five years ago. She 'had
lived in Detroit for thirty-five years,
She is survived by .one sister, Mrs. T.
Flannery of St. Colernban, end two
•brothers, Thomas anti Matthew Pur-
cell of Seaforth,
Ur. and IVIts. Terry .Flannery at-
tended the ferteral .of the latter's sis-
ter, Miss Mary Purcell, in Detroit on
Monday of this week.
The death of Mr. George Klein oc-
curred in Saginaw, Mich., on Dec: .3rd
in 'his seventyefifeh year. He was 'born
in McKillop but had lived in Saginaw
.for the 'past tforty-five years. He is
survived by his wife, ' formerly Anne
O'Byrne .of St. Columhan, 'and two
daughters. He ,also leaves two broth-
ers, Mr. Miehae:1 Klein, of Toronto,
and 'John Klein of Detroit.

family are 'visiting at the 'haTne- of 'Mr.
Frank Melady.

Word was received on Monday of
the death of Mrs. Frank Welch, for-
merly of Brucefield, at their home in
Detroit. The funeral svill take place
on Thursday afternoOn from Wood-
house Church near Simcoe, Ont.
The December meeting of the Wo-
man's Association was held in the
schoolroom of the church. The first
,part of the meeting was spent in sew-
ing. MTS. Andrew Scott had charge
of the devotional .period. Hymn ‚3dWA.; used. This was followed with the
readimi of the 2i3rd Psalm and part of
the Nth Psalm. Mrs. 'T. McQueen
led in prayer and hymn 148 was then
sung, The president took the chair.
The roll call was responded to by 34
members. The treasurer .gave her re-
port. A report of the groups was
given. This being the last meeting of

with sixteen members present. After

is feeling much impraved.

day night in honor of Mr. and Mrs.
Elgin Hayter who were married, re-

bride and groom were the recipients

Church under the leadership of 'Miss
Kay Drysdale are preparing a Christ-

Mr. and Mrs. P. Smith of Detroit
visited last week with Mr. and Mrs.
bell then led in prayer followed- by
the scripture reading from the sec-
ond chapter of Luke by Emalie Hos-
kins. A very interesting devotional
talk Was given by 'Mrs. Young on
"Christmas Carols." After singing
.the hymn "0 Conte all ye faithful,"
the business was 'discussed, and the
minutes of the predoes meeting read
and adopted. The offering was then
taken and Mrs. Roy MacLaren pres-
ided over the remainder of the pro-
gram. The topic on the Spirit of
Christmas was given by IVIrs. Roy
MacLaren and the carol "0 Little
Town of Bethlehem" was sung. Miss
Irene Hoggarth gave a very humor-
ous reading. Miss Violet Hyde dosed
the meeting in prayer, Interesting
contests were then. oassed around. '
The regular monthly meeting of the
Senior 'Women's Institute was held
Wednesday evening, Dec, 14th at the
home of Mrs. G. M. Drysdale. The
interior was beautifully decorated fax
Christmas and a 'very pretty Christ-
mas tree presented a ,fine appearance.

having driven a truck 250,000 miles
without haring an accident, or a dam-
aged fender, Mrs. Harvey also has
heen driving race horses, having tiriv-'
en Kathleen Grattan for the Pine
Ridge Stables, London, and also June
Grattan at the Dufferin meet last
year. Next year Mrs. Harvey will
.drive her own horse, Tony G., seven
year old trotter, which she recently

Dies in Carberry, Manitoba—
There 'passed away recently at his
home in Carberry, Manitoba, Mr.
James Carlyle Humestan, in his 74th
year, after a short illness. The .de-
ceased was born in Chisellturst, Ont.,
on March '3rd, 11604. He went west at
the age of eighteen .and 'farmed with
'his father. the late John Humeston,
of the Broo'kdale district. Late he
took lip a homestead in the Weltwoad
district • and on January 111th, NM,
was united in marriage to Margaretha
Elizabeth Class. Two sons were born
to this union, Albert John, and Clar-

opened by singing the hymn, "Jesus
the Very Thought of Thee," followed

Lord's prayer in unison. The scrip-
ture lesson from the second chapter
of Luke was read by Mrs. A, D. Me -

swered with "joy." The minutes of
the .previous meeting were read and
