Resolved that we, of the Huron
County Temperance Association, in
annual convention assembled in Clin-
ton this '115th day of November, 41938,
do emphatically protest against the
issuance of authorities for the sale
of 'liquor in beverage rooms within
the bounds of this County in viola-

which has been declared to 'be in
force !in Huron County by the Su-

by the Privy Council. And that we
again demand of the Ontario Govern-
ment the cancellation of the author-
ities that have been issued in this

Resolved that because of its vital
importance, we urge the immediate
hearing of and judgment on the Solo-

Huron County Council
New dignity and decorum was add-
ed to "Huron County Council last
week when Warden Haacke took the
chair on the main dais, usually occup-
ied by judges of the supreme courts.
Up to this time his worship has oc-
cupied the chair on the main !floor of
the •oounoil,'chamber- !behind the .desk
immediately. !below that on the dais.
This year's council !has been respon-
sible for a revival of old-time respect
for official positions.
.5. !P. Coombe, of the Department
of :Municipal Affairs, gave a highly
instructive address, and answered
.questions, on .the conduct of muni-
cipal shatters, to Huron County
councillors ,at the Wednesday morn-
ing- session of the county coturcil.
In answer to questions, he said •the
Department had been set up because
of defaulting municipalities, and was
headed by the Hon. Eric Cross.
Huron County is large enough
and sufficiently important to war-
rant proper dignity and decorum,
so Mr. Coombe offered the sugges-
tion that the chief magistrate take
his place on Ale main desk.
He told council that the County of
Bruce had this purchased 1,5100
acres at a price of Slue per acre 'for
a reforestation plot. He reminded
Huron County Council they were
Jagging behind in this respect.
The abolition of County Councils
is a contentious point, Mr. Coombe
said, He had the assurance that Hon.
Eric Cross, Minister of Municipal
Affairs, who was in- a position to
speak for the government, that Coun-
ty Councils would not be abolished.
In the old days when there were 38
county councils in the province, they
were largely responsible for making
Ontario the banner province of the
Dominion. They .didn't jump into a
ear every time they wanted anything
and go to Toronto.
"Do the work yourselves and stop
',passingthe buck' and there will be
no danger of •doing away with coun-
ty councils."
J. D. Thomas, of •Goderich, a mem-
ber of the Federation of 'Naturalists,
addressed the !council on reforesta-
tion. The first stepping stone, he said,
is to create .public interest in the suit-
ject, Farmers should be encouraged
to 'allot •ten per cent of their farms
to woadlots as a stepping stone, and
later to set aside large tracts of untill-
able land ,for reforestation purposes. -
Warden Haaeke expressed the hope
that some action on this fine would
'be taken at the present session.
On behalf of C. C. Lee, ;president
of the Goderich Board of Trade, Mr.
Thomas expressed approval of the
aims and objects of the Sky Harbor
Air Club, and expressed the wish
that Huron County Council would lit
