Mr. and Mrs. Hannam will be the guest speakers and we would like at least .a couple of cars from Walton to he present at that konvention, Mrs. Kirkby, the president of 4his society, vas appointed as delegate to the U. F. 0. convention to 'be held in Tor- onto on November 122; a3 and 24, Af- ter singing the "Maple Leaf Forever;" Mrs. Cumming read an article by Joan, from the Co -Operator, and the 'October Bulletin was presented by IN:rs. L. Leeming. Questionaire was conducted by the iPresident, and then the guest speaker was introduced, Mrs. Craw from Winthrop. She gave facts on temperance in a very inter- esting manner, which will not soon be forgotten. Mrs. Willis Dundas gave a short temperance reading and meeting iclnsed by singing God Save the King, .\ dainty lunch was served Eby a committee of which Mrs, Will Leming was convener. Next meeting will be held at Mrs. Walter Broad - foot's. Mrs, E. Bryatts and Mrs, Mc- Call will present Christmas sugges- tions, and as this will be our last meeting for the year we would like a full attendance for the election of officers and to hear a report on the year's work, Mr. George Kirkby and son Mur- ray, from Sarnia, visited over the week end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Kirkby of this village. Mr. Cosby Ennis from near Gran- ton spent last Thursday evening with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. Ennis, 'Mrs. Andrew Bruce -of Grey spent over the week end with Mrs, H. Ful- ton. A date to keep in mind is Friday, (Nov. 4th, when the ladies of the Ang- lican Church will hold their annual bazaar and tea in Mr. Duncan John- ston's house. Rev. and Mrs. C. Cumming attend- ed the funeral of Mr. Cumming's sis- ter, near 'Orillia, on Monday. Death of Mrs. William Thamer,— The death of a highly respected re- sident of McKillop, Mrs, William Thamer, occurred on Saturday, morn- ing about ten o clock, after an extend- ed illness. For about two and a half years, Mrs. Thamer had ,keen bedfast following a paralytic stroke. She was in her 74th year. Formerly Annie Y•undt, she was born in Ellice town- ship, a daughter of the late John Yundt. After her marriage to the late William Thamer she lived in Milver- ton and later in Walton for three years, moving from there to the farm on the 113th concession of McKillop 'where she had been a resident the past thirty years. Mr. Thamer prede- ceased her in January of this year. Surviving are four danghters and one son, Mrs. James White ,(Laura) of Goderich; Mrs. Gordon Reis (Gerrie) of Materiels; Mrs, Bert Debus (Bella) of Brunner, and Pearl and Billy at 'hone: a son. George, was killed dur- ing the war in 1.918. Two brother: and a sister also survive: john and Con- rail Yundt of \lilrerton and Mrs. Hears Schaefer of Stratford. The funeral took place from her late residence, int 33, con. 13, McKil- lop. on Monday afternoon. Oct. 24th. The day was all that could be desired. Rev. Mr, Sinclair of Blyth ibrought very 'forceful and inspimmg messages, The choir excelled them- selves. Scott and a .deet "Jesus Saviour Pilot Me," by Mrs. Menzies and Mr, iScott, were (beautifully rendered and much appreciated. The meeting for the Autumn thank offering of the W. M. S. was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Austin Dexter on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 06. The meeting opened with the president, Mrs. Britton, presiding, A hymn, "0 God !Our Help. In Ages Past," was sung. Prayer was offered by the president. Mrs. Britton gave a short sketch of the 510th anniversary o'f the founding of the !Nonan Mas- sion. Hymn, "0 it is Wonderful," was sung; Miss Ivy ISinimons gave the first chapter of the study book, "The World in Canada," Mrs, ,Men- zies sang a beautiful solo, "Dear Lord Forgive." Miss L. Young df Loncles,boro brought a splendid thank offering message .and expressed many truths that we hope will the put into practice. Mrs. Orville Dale moved a vote of thanks to Miss Young and Mrs. B. B. Stephenson seconded the motion, Mrs, Menzies closed the meeting with prayer, '•Lunch was served. The interior of the large brick building on James St. has been re- modelled and new equipment ,installed for handling the turnips in .larger ca- pacity. A waxing room has been fit- ted up on the seoond storey and a conveyer belt carries the turnips up .rout the ground floor. It is of wood construction and was made by Ed Daly and ,Ian Mac rs••+sh in about a week's time. The aerial will be sus- pended from the top of the tower and they Intend to use it for experimenting with .various types of .aerials to increase the range of VE91ZA. This station has been heard in all parts elf the world;' as far away as A•u.s- tralia. Some idea of the Dower radiated from an aer al while broadcasting can.be had from the fact that a small flashlight bulb, can be made to ,glow from the wwrent in the air near the aerial. The direction of 'broadcast can be controlled to a certain extent by the position of the aerial. STANLEY The young people of the commun- ity met at the home of Mr. and Mrs, Allen Armstrong, 'bridal couple, on Wednesday evening of last week and presented them with a miscellaneous shower, accompanied by an address. After bhe presentation a very 'pleasant social evening was enjoyed by all, Mr. and 'Mrs. Wm. Douglas of Brucefield and cousins from Wiarton visited last Saturday with Mr. Robt. McClinchey and family. A large reception was held in the Forresters Hall last Friday night in honour of. Mr. and Mrs, Harold Gla- zier, who were recently married. An address was read and the young cou- ple were presented with a studid couch, an occasional chair and a table, as gifts from the community in which they have resided. The young couple are residing in Clinton at present and the best wishes of the community goes with then. The evening was spent in dancing and a. good tune was spent by all. Finlayson has rented 64 acres to his son and the 'balance of his farm to a neighbor. Mr. and Mrs. Finlayson will continue to reside in their 'house. Mr. Finlayson plans to take a trip to the West next summer. Mr. and Mrs. F. Townsend have returned• from visiting ;friends in Cookstown. Mr. and firs. F. Coleman, Hensall, spent ;Sunday at the home of Mr. C. Oke. Mr, Howard Snell is improving nicely after his serious accident. The Tuciceramith Ladies' Club will meet on Nov. 9 at the 'home of Mrs. S. Whitmore, Mr. and Mrs. R. Coleman and Miss Dorothy and Mr. and Mrs. C. Oke were in Hensall Saturday attending the funeral of their aunt. BRUCEFIELD Y. P. U. Notes— The regular meeting of Bruccfieid Young People's Union held on Mon- day evening was in charge of Bill Pepper. After the opening hymn, Doris Dutot read the Scripture les- son and Rev. Mr. Wright led in pray- er. The topic entitled "What Think Ye of Christ," was read by Bill Pep- per and this was, followed by a help - fat discussion conducted by our presi- dent, Mr. Palmer.
