troit is sojourning with friends in
our !bung at present.
Threshing is progressing. The re -
turns of wheat is better than ex-
pected as some has turned out thirty
bushels to the acre. But it wilt hardly
test the standard an account of being
shrunk. It will make good feed, which
is also a paying proposition.

Hibbert Council—
Hibbert Council met in :regular ses-
sion at Staffa Township Hall on
Monday, August 1st, all members pre-
sent, the Reeve presiding. The min-
utes of the previous regular meeting,
also of a special meeting :held an
July 1116, were read and confirmed.
Resolutions were passed: 1. Awarding
the contract for repair of the Staffa
Drain to John E. Drake for the sun!
of $315;; 3. Accepting the tender of
Looby Bros. for the construction of
the Vivian Bridge. at !7120. per cubic
yard, the Township supplying neces-
sary material. 'T'his contract is subject
to approval of Department of High-
ways to allow for extra expenditure.
3. Adopting the engineer's report on
Liffey Drain. 4. Instructing the Clerk
to prepare a bylaw and schedule pro-
viding for repair of the Staffa Drain.
Bylaw No. 4611 was passed providing
for levying of rates Bar the current
year: County rate -4,51315 mills; gen-
eral township and road rate -3 mills;
direct rellief—,125'; as well as the re-
spective . special school rates. The
collector was authorized to make a
special effort to collect outstanding
taxes 'before October dst'The •follow-
ing order were issued: Road expendi-
ture $12+115; direct relief, $1113.55'0; gen-
eral expense $1i90. The meeting ad-
journed until Monday, September 5

turned hone from the Clinton hospi-
tal on Saturday.

David Reid each purchasing a thresh-
ing ,machine and Mr. Norman Shep-
herd a tractor. We wish them all good
luck.
We are very sorry that Mrs. Rob-
ert Watson has been very poorly For
the past few weeks but glad she is
improving.
