On .Saturday afternoon, June 215;
Mr. aid 'Mrs. Warren IGilt'bings cele-
brated their little daughter Mary
Jean's birthday, by hdlding a party.
She was 6 years old that day. There
were present neighbor children, and
from Clinton, Summerhill and Lon-
desboro, numbering 215 in all. The
afternoon was very pleasantly spent
in games. Balloons .were presented to
each boy and girl and a picture was
taken of all the children With their
balloons, followed by a ,balloon race.
Just before lunch the grown ups and
children gathered in the dining room
and sang a few .hymns led 'by Mrs.
Rev. Hawke of Clinton, Sunday
School teacher of the little children
in Ontario street Church ,(junior
class) after which quite a number of
the children 'helped in giving an inter-
esting program of singing , dancing
and recitations. At 'lunch the table
was centred with a 'bouquet of flow-
ers and 2 ,birthday cakes, ,one for
Mary 'Jean and the other for a little
twin second cousin who was also 6
years old. Each cake had 6 candles
which burned while they ate thelunch
served to 36 in all by Mrs. Warren
!Gib'bings, Mrs. J. G. Gib'bings, Mrs.
Percy •Gibbings, Mrs. James Chowen
and Mrs. Isaac 'Rapson. The lunch
was finished with ice cream, straw-
berries and birthday cake. After lunch
the Clwildren went (back .to play, play-
ing softball, 'baseball and swinging till
time to go home. During the after-
noonseveral 'groups of pictures were
taken. Mrs. Rev. Hawke offered a vote
of thanks to Ivfts. 'Warren Gibbings
for the enjoyable afternoon which all
had spent together and said what 'a
pleasure bhe day had 'been to her and
what a pleasure it was to teach her
class of children in Sunday school.
A very 'pleasant evening was spent
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold
Dale (Gast Friday when a gathering of
friends assembled to present the
'bride-to-be, '(fn IJatly), Miss ,Tena
Flynn,- with a miscellaneous shower.
The evening was very pleasantly
spent in dancing.

while Mrs. Allan read an address to

Mrs. Bremner with a lovely quilt and
Edna a silver ,lower 'basket and mir-
ror.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Simpson of De-
troit 'visited Mr. C. D. Simpson on
Saturday,
Rev. H. E. Wright was inducted as
pastor of Brucefield'United Church on
Friday evening. Rev. E. 'F. Chandler
of Kippen, had charge and was assist-
ed by Rev: Mr. Gale of Bayfield. Rev,
Mair of Thames Road also spoke. Mr,
C. Scott sang a solo which was much
appreciated Lunch was served at the
end of a social half hour. We welcome
Mr. and Mrs. Wright and family to
our village.
The Bruce,field Y. P. U. held their
annual picnic at "IGilpin's Grove"
south of •Bayfield on Tuesday, June
38. The .picnic was well attended and
all seemed to have a grand titre. A
ball game was enjoyed on the batik
until dark then a scatter to gather up
firewood for a bonfire on the beach.
,After some lively games around the
campfire each person was given a !bal-
loon or some other atoise-maker which
could only be quieted by weiners, rolls
and lemonade, After everyone was sa-
tisfied we were led in a singsong by
Eva Stackhouse and Edna •Bremner.
Rev. W. A. 'Bremner was called 'for-
ward and presented with a motor rug
accompanied by ttte following ad-
dress: "Dear Mr. Brenner—Since
this, is our last "get-together" of the
season and since, to our sorrow, you
will not be with us when we resume
our regular meetings in the fall, the
society wishes to express in a slight
manner its sincere appreciation and
thanks for the interest you have so
willingly shown in our work. Some-
how you have made us feel your will-
ingness ,to aid in any worthwhile ven-
ture, no matter whether it be for fun
or for some more serious 'business.
You have reprimanded us when we
were misbehaving and cheered us
when we were somewhat down, and
we wish you to have some small tok-
en to remind you 'that we believe you
have helped us greatly. Please accept
this motor rug. May 'rt be a constant
reminder that our good wishes are
with you always and that you will be
most welcome anytime you find it
