Death of Tdrs. Joseph Taylor.—
On
aylor.On Saturday, June 251th, a highly
esteemed resident, the last of the pio-
neer settlers in this community, in the
person of Annie McLeod, widow of
the date Joseph Taylor, passed quietly
away in her Nth year. The late Mrs:
Taylor was born in . Zorra, Oxford
County, later moving to near Walton
and still later to Walton. Mrs, Tay-
lor was married '60 years ago and had
lived near Harlock ever since her
marriage. She was a member of
Barns' Presbyterian Church which is
now Burns' United Church. Mrs.
Taylor was a ;quiet, industrious wom-
an who took a great interest in her
home and family, having raised a fa-
mily •of nine children, 'three of whom
died a number of years ago, namely
Jessie, Isabel !(Mrs. Charles Tyner)
and Angus: Those who still remain to
mourn the loss of a loving mother are
Peter near Hariock, 'William at
hone, Hugh in 'Galahead, Alberta,
Nelson of Vancouver, B. C., john of
Okanagan Valley, B. C. and Ross of
Toronto, There are also 1.6 grand-
children. One brother, Mr, R. Mc-
Leod, is still living in Vancouver; B.
C. The funeral which was largely at-
tended was ,held on Monday after-
noon frim her late•'home on the 1111th
concession o'f Hallett near Harlock
at 2 o'clock. The service was conduct-
ed 'by her pastor, Rev, Mr. 'Gardiner,
The hymns sung were "The Lord's
My Shepherd," and "'j'esus Saviour
Pilot Me," The remains were laid to
rest in Burns' Church cemetery. The
friends from a distance who attended
the funeral 'were Mr. and Mrs. 'Ross
Taylor' and 'family of Toronto, Mr,
Wm. Taylor and family of ,Fuller-
ton, and Mr. J. 'Vincent, Toronto. The
pallbearers were Messrs. Thomas
Neilans, William Addison, Albert
Rapson, 'William Leiper, •Randolph
Lowrie and William Trewin, The
flower bearers were 2 'grandchildren,
'Jahn and William Taylor and 2 nei-
ghbors, (John and Harry Rapson, Sin-
cere sympathy is extended to the fa-
mily and friends.
Rev. Mr. 'Gardiner preached his last
sermon in Burns' Church while pas-
tor on Sunday to a large audience.
We are sorry to lose Rev. Mr. Gard-
iner and his wife and niece from our
congregation and .no doubt ibut what
is our 'loss is iEgmondvikl•e's gain and
we hope that we will :like our new
pastor and 'family as well as we have
the ones who are leaving us.
Mr. and Mrs, tA'ilan Smith of 'Iona,
near London, visited on Saturday ev-
ening at the home of the latter's aunt,
Mrs. Alex Reid and Mr. and Mrs.
Edward Reid, also at the home of
Mrs. Wm. 'Watson and Mr. Wm.
Watson on the glath of. Hallett for a
few days, returning home on Sunday.
Mrs. (Jennie Knox, Mr. 'Ernest
Knox and Mr, and Mrs. 'Ward 'Knox
spent Sunday afternoon at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Warren IGibbings
near Summerhill:
Mr. Peter Taylor visited Mr. John
Jenkins on Tuesday evening of this
week. We are very sorry (John is not
at :present enjoying •good .health.
Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Beacons and
Bert and Miss Kathleen who is at
present assistant night Supervisor in
•Clinton Hospital, attended the funeral
of Mrs. John Shepherd in Clinton
Tuesday of last week, We extend
sincere sympathy- to Mr. Shepherd
and family and friends.
