On Thursday, June 2nd, Mr, and
Mrs, James 'Carne of Stanley ,cele-

solemnized at the ''bride's home on
June 'list when Margaret, elder dau-

Marks was united in marriage to
'John Wain, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Jahn Wain of 'England. After the
ceremony the young ,couple 'left on a
motor trip to Toronto and other
points, the 'bride travelling in a 'blue
suit with accessories to match. On
their return they will reside on the
grooms farm in 'Goderich Township.

Mr. Irvine Gingerich has been de-
monstrating very successfully an el-
ectric fence machine. which is some-
thing .of a novelty in this locality.
The instrument has been used on a
single 'wire eh.ciosure upon incor-
rigible live stock and has proven a
hundred per cent effeotive, using a
minimum of current, and besides be-
ing effective it is entirely ,harmless to
anything coming in contact with it.

Hi'b•b•ert 'Council met in regular ses-
sion at Staffa Township Hall on
Monday, 'June 6, all members present,
the Reeve presiding. The minutes of
the previous meeting were read and
confirmed, and a number of commun-
ications dealt with satisfactorily. Re-
solutions were passed: Providing for
a new treasurer's bond for Mrs. Lydia
Colquhoun; adopting auditor's report
of the accounts of the late Treas-
urer, A. A. Colquhoun, from January
1;st to May 110, 4938: purchasing five
twelve -foot .and one fourteen -foot cul-
verts from Roy McCulloch for the
sunt of 160; concurring with the ag-
reement with police village trustees
that $100 be allowed for clerical fees:
also direct relief rate• be applied to
Dublin pro rata to their assessment;
authorizing Councillor Kay to look
into the requirements of the repair on
the McDougall 'Drain. The following-
orders
ollowingorders were issued: Road expenditure,
$895.4111; direct relief, $119'89; general
expense, $56. The Court of Revision
on the assessment roll was re-
sumed. The appeal of the
MdKillop, Hibbert and •Logan Tele-
phone Co. for reduction from 2170
miles of wire to 22 miles was allowed.
The several alterations and reduc-
tions having 'been authorized, the
Court was 'finally closed. The meet-
ing adjourned until Monday, July 4
