HARVEY DORRANCE AGAIN
NOMINATED IN THE WEST
The following is a report in part
given by tete Tisdale Recorder of the
nomination tneetimg at which Mr.
Harvey Dorrance was nominated.
He is a son of Mr. James Dorrance
of McKillop and has been a member
of the Saskatchewan legislature since
14y34,
Harvey Dorrance, M. L, A,, was
again ,the choice of the Liberal .nom-
inating convention for the Tisdale
eomstituency held. in Tisdale last
Thursday, and will for the :second
(lime carry the Liberal colours in the
tforth'coming election, which it is ex-
pected will be 'hold sometime in June,
Dr, 'Myles of Tisdale was also nom-
inated 'bust with the vote being in
favour of the present member be was
accorded a unanimou-s choice of the
Party. The convention was one of
the largest held here for some time
past. The hall was well filled 'and 92
delegates registered from the various
polls despite the poor condition of
the roads. :Fallowing his nomination
Mr. Dorrance thanked the sheeting
dor the support 'given flim end pledg
ed to ,carry on when elected as he
had done in the past foul years. He
had, he stated, the interest of the con-
stituency at -heart and would do his
utmoit in •providing the necessary es-
sentials for the good of the commun-
ity and the province at large. The
meeting was smoothly conducted and
not a dissenting voice was heard -dur-
ing the afternoon. .
At the meeting following the nom-
ination Mr, Dorrance, 'M. L. A., spoke
for half an hour and gave a resume
•of the past four years .of fhe govern-
ment's adnsinictration. During the.
poor crop years in the south Mr.
Dorrance stated that 7000 families
had been moved north, and that
1'000 of the number had been located
in Tisdale constituency. This in itself
had been and was still a vast under-
taking, for many had to be re-
established on farms and provided
for, for fhe time being. He somewhat
criticised the C. C. F. and the Social
Credit organizations and was unable
to see how their platforms could be
carried out to any better advantage.
Public debt, the growth of the pulp
wood industry in the north and other
matters were dealt with in an able
manner by Mr, Dorrance.
Om -the outset of his address the
Hon. J. 'G. Taggart, minister rf
agriculture, • spoke of the present
members of the Legislature, Me.
MacFarlane and Mr. Dorrance and
gave therm credit for much efficient
work carried on in their •constituen-
•cies. Of Mr. Dorrance he stated that
there was not a snore efficient mem-
ber in the House than the member
for Tisdale. IOn committee he was a
valued member and one of the most
clear headed thinkers. Mr. Taggart
spoke of 'conditions as they existed
at present compared to '119215, when
the value of farm 'products in Sas-
'katchewan were 'valued at more than
333 -million dollars. He 'stated that in
1.4317 the province raised'less wheat
than in i1(9A5' •when the province was
first organized. The speaker dealt for
some time on the enormous task -of
providing seed end feed for the far-
mers of the province. Figures as to
amount and 'cost were quoted, which
was almost unbeliev'a'ble, 'Other 'par-
ties were criticised by Mr. Taggart
and 'he.'stated that the C. C. F. and
Social Credit platforms 'w'ere not 'bas-
ed on sound ,principles. In ,concluding
he tasked for the eco -operation in again.
electing MT. Dorrastee as member for
this constituency.
