The death ocoureed at St. Joseph's
.Hospital, London, early TuesdaY
monning of Albert 'Frederick Selves,
only son of Mr. ari.c1 MTS. John Sel-
ves ,jr. of ,the north boundary, Us -
borne. He had been poorly for sev-
eral days. On Mon.day he underwent
on operation, and ,died early Tues-
days., The remains were brought to
Bonthron & Drysdale's parlors here
and later taken to his 'father's 'home.
He was rin his 20th year and 'was a
fine type of young man, and will be
sadly missed in his 'home .ancl com-
munity. He was a member of Thames
Rd. United Church, and took a pro-
minent part .in the young people's
work. He is aurvived by hie father
and mother and one sister • Helen.
'Phe funeral will take place ft'em his
Sate home in Usberne on Thisrsday
afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment will
the in Exeter Cemetery, •

Rigby-MeQueen—
A quiet, but pretty wedding took
place at the .Carmel PreSbyterian
• Church manse at le o'elook noon on
Saturday, May 14th, when Rev. W.
A. Young .united in marriage John
McDonald Rigby, son of Me. and
Mrs. ijohn Riseby, of Blenheim, and
Flora Marguerite McQueen, eldest
daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Stewart
McQueen of the 'boundary. The
bride was attended by her sister,
Miss Jean McQueen, while Mr. 'J.
Rigby, brother of the groom, acted
as .groomsman. The popular bride
looked charming in a navy tailored
suit with hat, shoes and other acces-
sories to snatch and carried a corsage
of talisman roses and lily of the
valley. The bridesmaid wore a black
tailored suit with accessories to
match and carried a corsage of yel-
low roses and violets. During the
signing of the register Mrs. Young
sang very sweetly, "My World."
After the 'ceremony the young cou-
ple, accompanied by a number of
their young relatives, motored to
London 'where a wedding ,clinner
WSS 'served. Later they left on a wed-
ding trip to points east. On their
return they will reside at Blenheim,
where they will have the best wishes
of their many friends.
Court of Revision—.
A •Court of Revision on the /1928
assessment roll of the village was
held in the Council Chamber of the
town hall on Monday evening, The
village council anted as revising of-
ficers. Quite a number of appeals
were M. Miss Clarissa Mitchell ap-
pealed against the assessment on her
property, and in a very capable man-
ner presented her case. Miss Nettie
Cameron appealed her assessment,
also Mr. Frank Coleman appealed
against the assessment on the prop-
erty on Brock et. that he recently
purchased from Mr. J. W. 'Ortwein.
Each appeal was disallowed, the
court taking the judgment of the as-
sessor, Robert Paterson, as a proper
valuation. Some threatened to take
their appeals to the county judge.

play in the windows of the W. 0.

Rev. .Arthur Sinclair, pastor of
the United Church here: was the
guest speaker at the anniversary ser-
vices held in the Centralia United
Church on Sunday. Mr. Sinclair was
a former pastor of •the church. Rev.
Mr. Stewart, pastor at Centralia,
took charge of Mr. Sinclair's work.
A very pleasant event took place
Friday evening at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Stanley Mitchell, Tuoker-
smith, when about 50 girl friends of
Miss Marguerite McQueen, 'bride -
elect of Saturday, gathered to do her
honor, and to present her with a
miscellaneous shower. The evening
was spent in .conteets, games and
music, During the evening Miss Mc-
Queen was placed in a decorated
chair. 'Little Patsy Mitchell and Rob-
by Farquhar, acting as a 'bride and
groom, •entered the room, drawing a
wagon, 'beautifully decorated in pink
and White, and loaded with presents
fnc.ethe popalar bride. Miss McQueen
in a few well chosen words, thanked
her 'friends for their gifts and good
wishes. A tasty lunch was served,
and all wished Miss McQueen many
years of happy married life.

Toronto spent the week end here
with friends.
Mr. D. W. .Foss of Toronto is
spepnding us few days in town visit-
ing Mr. George Douglas and other
Friends in town. Mr. 'Foss was a for-

spent the week end at his home here
and attended the funeral of his cou-
sin, the late Fred Manns on Satur-
day afternoon.

The W. M. S. of Carmel Presby-
teziart Ghurch held their regular meet-
ing in the !basement ,cif the church on

gave an interesting talk on "Cour-
age." The roll cale was answered with
courage as the text word, The presis

Mrs. J. A. Paterson sang a solo,
"There is a .Rainbow in the Sky for
Yoe." Mrs. W, 'A. Yonng gave a
very interesting talk on MiSSi011
band work. Mies Diantha Young
sang a solo, "We are little Sun-
beams," Mrs, Roy McLaren gave a
reading on "Gifts from Egypt and a
Gift to Egypt." After singing a, hymn
the meeting closed with 'prayer.
Mr. Harold Bonthron is in Tor-
onto this week attending the school
of embalming.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Verbeem, who
have been residing near Ailsa Craig
for some time, have moved to Eensall
and are occupying an apartment in
the joynt Block.
Mr. Walker Carlile is assisting in
Bontheon '& Deysdale's hardware
store in the absence of Mr, Harold
Bonrhron.
Preparatory service was held in
Carmel Presbyterian Church on Fri-
day evening with the pastor, Rev. W.
A. Young in charge. On Sunday
morning communion service was
held, four new members joining at
this service.
Death of Frederick IVIanns—
It is with deep regret we write of
the death of one of our most respect-
ed citizens and business men, Fred-
erick Manns, who passed away at his
home here Thursday last aged 68
years. Mr. 'Maims suffered a foot in-
fection several months ago. He had
a toe amputated at Seaforth hospital.
Later the leg was taken o5 ,below
the knee. Me. Manns was born near
Grand Bend, son of late Frederick
Manns. The family moved to Hen,eall
when he was a young boy, and he
had resided here 'continuously since.
He first learned 'butchering, and later
started in the 'barbering thu:siness. He
and Mr. Frank Farquhar conducted
a barber shop, pool ram and tobacco
store, and for over 25 years Manns
and Farquhar were one of the best
known firms in Western Ontario.
Owing to the illness of Mr. :germs
the firm dissolved partnership last
December. He 'had a very friendly
disposition and had a host of friends.
He took a greet interest in the frat-
ernal orders of the village being a
prominent member of the Masons
and I. O. O. F. For several years he
was a member ,of the Hermit school
hoard. He was a meniber of Hensel]
United Church. About 30 years ago
he married Miss Tessie Shepherd,
who survives him with one son Ken-
neth. A brother Charles Manns lives
in California. The funeral took place
from his late home, King at., on Sat-
urday afternoon under auspices of
Hensall Masonic Lodge V3. The
'funeral was one of 'the largest held
in Hensall for many years, a great
many coming a long distance. The
service at the home was conducted
by his pastor, Rev. Arthur Sinclair.
assisted 'by Rev. W. A. Young. Dur-
ing the service Rev. Mr. 'Young sang
a solo, "Lead Kindly Light." The
floral triibutes sent by different organ-
izations, relatives and friends were
numerous and very 'beautiful. Inter-
ment took place in XicTaggart's
Cemetery. At the grave side the
Hensall Odd Fellows had change of
the service. P.N.G. Bro, Sydney Mc-
Arthur took the noble grand's part,
P.N.G. G. J. Sutherland took the
chaplain's. and Bro. W. 0. 'Goodwin
acted as marshal. Pallbearers were
William Consitt, A. R. 'Campbell, T.
C. Joynt, 'Errolel Drummond, Thos.
Welsh and Frank Ferquhar. The
flower carriers were Lloyd McDon-
ald, Ernest Shaddick, Wm, McKen-
zie, Archie Parsons, John E. Mc-
Ewen and john 'McBeth. There was
a large attendance of 'brethren from
both lodges. Among those at the fun-
eral from a distance were Mr. and
Mrs. P. Brooks, Mr, and Mrs. John
Brooks, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Ben-
gough, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Mei-ter
and Mrs. Frank .Gratham, all of Lon-
don, Mr. Charles 'Mantis and son,
Mr. and Mrs, Meadon, .Sanilac, Mich.,
Mr. and Mrs. Dewar, Mr. and Mrs.

was presented by Mrs. B. Stephen-
son .and Mrs. jJ, Ferguson. The re-
cipients of the gift then suitably
