their relatives, Mr. and Mrs. A. W. E.
Hemphill and Mr, and Mrs, C. Cook.
Mrs. Wilson Berry of Toronto is a
guest here with her mathetgin-law,
Mrs. Thos, B'errY,
Miss Myrna Hudson of London Was
a week end visitor here with her Oar-
ents, Mr. ;and Mrs. Cohn Hudson.
A Women's Sunday was held in rhe
United Church on Sunday. The pas-
tor, 'RON,. Arthur Sinclair, ' preached
both morning and evening .and gave
addresses suitable to the occasion. A
women's choir of 36 'voices -was a fea-
ture of the services. At the morning
service a quartet composed of Mrs.
Geo. Hess, Miss Florence Welsh,
1Miss Helen "N;fc.Murchie, • and Mrs.
M. IG. Drysdale sang. Soloists in the
evening anthem were Miss Lettie
Love, Mrs. ;Alf. Clark and Mrs, Leo
Hedden. At the conclusion of the ser-
mosi a duet was given by Mrs. Geo.
Hess and Mrs. Leo Hedden. There
was a good attendance at • both ser-
vices.
Miss Nlae .MeNaughton of Toronto
attended the funeral here on Saturday
of her aunt, the late Mrs. Alexander
Swan.
A large number of neighbors and
friends of Mr. and Mrs, Fred Corbett
s.d. the Blind Line, Hay Township. ga-
thered at their home on Friday even-
ing, the oerasiou being )Jr. Corbetes
birthday, A very pleasant evening
V11 s spent in dancing, cards, games
and 'contests. During the evening Afr,
•Corbett W1,,s presented with an ad-
dress and a number of •beantiful and
useful presents. Mr, Corbett in a very
happy manner thanked all present for
their good wishes and beautiful pres-
ents. At midnight a dainty lunch was
served. Mr. and Mrs. Corbett are both
life-long residents of the district
where they reside and are very popu-
lar and their home is always a very
pleasant place to visit. Mr. Corbett's
many friends wish him many more
happy birthdays.

Elgin were visiting here last week
with relatives.

Death of Mrs. Alexander Swan—
The death occerred here on 'Thurs-
day morning at her home here of
Mrs. Alexander Swan after a linger-
inness 1 several years. On \\*eines-
day she :was stridken with a :eV(`re
heart att•tek from ehich she failed to
rally. She horn in Hibbert to wn-
ship, one mile east of Chilsellmrst, 70
years ago, a &matter of the late Mr.
and Mrs. Peter Morrison. After her
marriage to Mr. Swan they resided on
the Swan farm acno, the road Frcon
the Morrison farm till they retired
front farming and moved to, ilensall

st, She was a member of the United

Bellingham. Wash., and a lumber of
nephew's and nieces. The funeral took
place from her late home 1.-11bert et,.
Hensall. mi Saturday afteracson, inter-
ment taking place in McTaggares
Cemetery. Rev. Arthur Sinclair, pas-
tor of the United Church, conducted
the funeral ;services. The pallbearers
were; Bert Riley, •William Britnell,
James McDougal, Carl Stonemarb
Peter MeNaughton and Lorne Mc-
Naughton. The pallbearers were all
former neighbors of Mrs. Swan when
she lived at thiselhurst, the last two
menti011ed, 1Peter and Lorne Mc-
Naughton, being her nephews. The
flora'l tributes from relatives, neigh-
bors and friends were very beautiful.
Anumg those who attended the funer-
al from a distance were Mr. and Mrs
John Swan of Detroit; Miss Mae Mc-
Naaghton of Toronto; ,Mr. and Mrs.
Lorne .MONaughton of Cromarty.
Miss Edith Dick has taken a 1;051 -

Mr, Peter Manson, who has been
seriously ill at his home her Inc the

ble, s slightly improved.

Mrs. 'Frank ;Farquhar has been in
Toronto for the past week with her
;sister, Miss Edna Cochrane who is
in the Toronto Hospital being treated
for a fractured skull caused from an
accident which happened some time
ago. Miss Cochrane has been in a ser-
, ions condition for several 'clays.
Miss Irene Hoggarth was visiting
friends. in Stratford on Sunday.
Mr. Harry Wilson of Toronto was
• a guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs.

terests of Mr. Hemphill's health. •

ated on for a fractured skull. Her Sis-

and Mrs. IF. Farquhar, accompanied
her, and are staying until the patient
is recovering ;somewhat. Hers many
friends wish her a speedy recovery
as she is missed very much in this
community.
