The February meeting of the Wo-
men's Institute was held on 'Valent-
ine's day at the home of Miss arose-
phine lEdge. Mrs. Charles Eyre pre-
sided. During the business period it
was decided to give $5 to the Lions
niPk 5u,nd. "Carry me 'back to old.
Virginity" 'WKS sung. Mrs. Leonard
Strong took the ;last part of the
meeting. "Long long ago" was sung
followed by a reading, "Importance
of Forests" by Margaret Leyb'urne.
,The last part of the report of the
London convention was ,given by
Mrs. 1Budner. A :guitar selection by
Jean Gemmell accompanied by Mrs.
'Raymond Nott on the piano was en-
joyed by alt The last talk on the
boymanship prolject on "Synthetics,"
was given by Jean Gemmell. Miss
'Graham took the topic which con-
sisted of an amusing reading "Chris-
tening at •Christie's"' and two of her
Poems, "Dattkness and tight" and
"Radios' and one by another on "Ire-

The 'February meeting of the W.
11,1. 'S of Northside United Church
was held in the Sunday school room
on Thursday, Feb. 110 at 2130 p. en.
The hymn "'Oh God, Our Help in
Ages past," was sung and Mrs. Laing,
the President, led in prayer. The sec-
retary's report was .accepted without
reading, and the treasurer's report by
Miss IA, 1Fenguson was adopted as
read. Mrs. IKeine read some very in-
teresting points on temperance. Same
'business was discussed and the roll
call was taken. Mrs. 'Glew, as ,captain
;of Circle 2, then took change of the
,devational part of the meeting. The
hymn, "Take Titne to be Holy," was
sung. The devotional leaflet, "The
Church in 'Action in the INation," was
read by Miss A. liVallace. Mrs. Turn-
bull read the Scripture lesson, and
Miss A. Ferguson led in grayer. Miss
A. L'Ftwrence then taok charge and
illustrated "The lEducational Life di
our Chure;h." It was very interesting
as she took us iby moviug slides into
IN. Sask., Trinidad, Japan, China, M-
rica and Korea, and showed us the
wonderful way in which education
had developed in these different oourt-
tr•ies. The offering •was then, received.

Mrs. Austin Dexter, ,captain of
group 2 of the W.A„ entertained a
few ladies to tea on Tuesday after-
noon of this week.
Misses Margaret and Kathleen
Yungblutt spent a week with their
aunt, Mrs. Austin and Charles 'Dexter.
Miss Ethel Dexter returned home
with 'them for a 'few days.
. A joint meeting of the W. A. and
W.M.S. met in the ;basement of the
church Thursday afternoon. Mrs.
Britton opened meeting by. Ilse o'f
hymn 4116, "Search Me 0 God."
Themes for the year, the Church in
my lif; all life, all nations, and the
theme for 'February, "The Church 19
action in the nation." The minutes
vvere read by the secretary and ad-
opted. Short prayers were offered by
.Ifrs. Lindsay, Mrs. Robert Lawson
and Mrs, Britton, LA. 'letter of apprec-
iation from Mrs. 1Gardiner was read
and the WA. then took charge.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dexter spent
a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Guy
Cuningham and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph
Yangblutt of Auburn.
A joint meeting of the WA. and
W.M.S. was held in the schoolroom
of the church on Thursday, 'Feb. lit.
The president. Mrs. ?E. Adams, pre-
sided for the W.A. and opened this
part of the meeting by the nse
hymn 123, after which prayer was
otTered 'by Mrs. Snell and the Lord's
prayer repeated. The minutes of the
previous meeting were read by 'Viola
Dexter and adopted. A cad of thanks
from Mrs. Gardiner was read by the
president. 'MTS. Chas. Dexter was ap-
pointed captain for group .411rs. Chas,
!Riley. MTS. Austin Dexter, Mrs. Geo.
Leitch, Mrs. Frank Riley, Mrs. Leo
Stephenson and Mrs. 'Joseph 'Riley
were appointed a committee to buy
wood, 'kindling and other necessary
equipment for the kitchen. Mrs. A.
'Dexter presided for Croup No. 2.
Scripture lesson was read 'by Mrs. C.
Riley. Solo by Mrs. Leo Stephenson.
'There is a 1Green Hill Far Away."
Leaflet by Viola Dexter entitled "The
Church in Action." The study ,book
was given by Ivy Simmons. Mrs.
Snell closed with prayer after which a
social half hour was spent, when lunch
was served.

Miss Margaret Watson who is at-
tending the college of education in
Toronto spent the week end with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Watson.
Mr. ,and Mrs, Colin West and Dor-
athy of St. Thomas, on their return
from Florida, 'visited at the manse last
week.
At the W. M, S. meeting last Wed-
nesday Mrs. Bremner had charge of
the ,devotional epriod when hyrna 4110
was sung. The scripture reading Phil.
13:15-113, was read by Mrs, J. S. Must-
ard, prayer was offered by three of
the members, Mrs. 'A. McQueen read
the devotional leaflet, hymn .5110 was
then sung. The president had charge
of the 'business period; it was ,decid-
ed to hold our thankoffering meeting
during Baster week, our next meet-
ing will be held just before the serv-
ice on the Day of 'Prayer lvtarch 4th.
Mrs. Jas. 'McQueen who had the cur-
rent event. read extracts from a letter
received !Herm Miss Margaret Brown,
Shanghai, China, which was very in-
teresting. Mrs. Aikenhead, Christian
stewardship secretary, read a short
poem. 'Mrs. H. Aikenhead took the
chair ,for dle study .period, 'when the
fifth chapter. 'The Light of the
Mind," was taken, this chapter tells of
the •tvork among the Canadian Ind-
ians and Christian edueation abroad;
she was assisted by Miss M. Swan
anti Mrs, 'A, T. Scott. Hymn 3.58 was
sung and Mrs. Aikenhead .closed the
meeting with the benediction.
Mr, and Mrs. Webster MoNaughton
of Bothwell and Mr. Robt. McNtaugh-
ton of 1.oncion spent the week end
with their ,parents, lir. and Mrs. John
McNaughton. While home they at-
tended the funeral of their uncle. the
late Mr. Webster Turner, of Stanley.
Mrs. Wm. Douglas returned home
Iron Marlette, Mich., on Sunday
where 511e had 'been for the past two
weeks, helping to rare for her 'broth-
er the late John Hudson. •
•Mr. 'Walter Moffat and Mr. Carl
Deihl of Stanley are in Clinton hos-
pital. A speedy recovery is hoped for
them. Mr. Goldie Graham who was
also in Clinton hospital has returned
.home.
The !February meeting of the Wo-
man's Association was held in the
schoolroom of the church. The first
part of the meeting was devoted to
sewing. The 'Devotional part of the
meeting was taken 'by Mrs. 'George
SWall. The meeting was ,opened iby
singing. hymn 1€15. This was frillowed
by the Scripture reading which was
found in 25,th 'Psalms. The Devotional
part of the meeting closed with the
singing of 'hymn Sin The president
then took the chair. The minutes of
'the previous meeting were read and
adapted. The roll eel was responded
to thy 38 members. ;Business was then
discussed and meeting closed by all
repeating the Mizpah !benediction,
Lunch was then served by the hostess
and her assistants.
Mr. ,and Mrs. T. H. Wheeler spent
a couple of days last week in Strat-
ford.

men's 'Association was held on Feb,

ened with 'Mrs. Peters in charge and

had been quite successful during 19317.

The WA. of St. John's 'Church met
at the Mune of Mrs. M. Reid Thurs-
day when it was decided• to hold a so-
cial evening on or about dst March.

Mrs. James Jarrott and Mr. and
Mrs. Eldon Jarrott attended the fun-
eral of the former's brother, the late
Mr. John 'Hudson in Michigan on Sat-
urday.
Mr. 'Ross Love called on relatives in
,Plattsville recently.
Mrs. Turner is being visited by her
sisters from the West.
Mr. George Stephenson of Walker-
ton called on his parents, Mr. and
:Mrs. Robert Stephenson and family
during the week.
'After an illness of over two month.,
Webster Turner died on Feb. 9th at
the hospital in Seaforth. All that lov-
ing hands and medical attention could
do were of little avail owing to a heart
ailment, The deceased was a kind and
loving man, ever ready to 4do his part
in every line of affairs. He will be
greatly missed in his home as well as
in the community where he lived for
almost '58 years. He served his town-
ship as councillor and later !became
Reeve. He was a member of the Or-
ange Lodge at 'Varna, In the Hills -
green Church he was a member and a
very active woriser in different organ-
izations. His wife, formerly Minerva
Stephenson, a son Ralph at home, and
a daughter, Mrs, R. Consitt,' and Elm-
er farming' on the Parr line, survive.
He also ;leaves two brothers. John in
Clinton and Harvey, Parr line; three
sisters, !Mrs. B. Keys, Babylon line;
Mrs. F. Godeman, Hensall, and Mrs.'
Mc/sTaughton of 'ruckersmith. The
funeral was most largely attended and
held from 'his late home on Parr line,
Stanley township on Saturday. Rev. E.
F. Chandler, 'his pastor, conducted the
funeral service at the house and the
OrangeLodge held the service at the
grave. There were many :beautiful fior-
ai trib.utes. Duets were rendered by
Mr. and Mrs,, Stephenson of •Michi-
gan, of 'favorite hymns of the deceas-
ed. Much sympathy is felt in this
cominuniity for the 'bereaved.
