Nos. 5, 8, 9 and Summer Hill, will be
held in, the Community Hall on Fri-
day evening of this week. As this
is the first recital of [this kind ever
held here, a pleasant time is antici-
pated. Came and encourage the kid-
dies.. The time is 8 o'clock pm. Miss
Greene of Clinton is .the director in
charge.

On Thursday afternoon last, the
ladies' of the W. A. of the United
church entertained the W. A'. of Por-
ter's Hill: The meeting was opened
by the hymn "What a Friend we
have in Jesus" after which the Presi-
dent, Mrs. Makins, gave a short ad-
dress oS wleldome. 11rs. Torrance,
the President of. Porter's Hill W. A.
then took the chair. Their program
consisted of readings, solos, duets
and a topic given by 'M'rs. Proctor
on "Building for Eternity."' At the:
close a dainty lunch was served.
The regular meeting will be held
next Thursday afternoon at two o'-
clock to which all are invited to at-
tend'- '
After, attending the triennial of
the Canadian Women's Press Club at
Ottawa, and the Convention • of Cana-
dian Authors at •1Vfontreaal, Mrs.

cently.,at Stratford, Jean Phillips of
Blyth 'won 'the gold medal in the pi-
ano class uhde0. twelve .year's; Helen
,Shaw of Blyth; took third place in
the piano class under sixteen years
and C. L. Cullimore of Lucknow won
the silver medal in the tenor solo
class. All three successful contest,
ants are pupils of Alfred E. Cook,
