Old friends hereabouts were sorry to hear of the death of Mr. George Laithwaite of Grand Forks, North Dakota, which oocurred on Saturday last, March 2nd, after an illness of a week or ten days. Brought up in this township Mr, Laithwaite was a member of a 'well-known family and will be remembered by many of the residentsof this township. He is survived by his wife, formerly Miss Adeline Murphy, and two sons. Mr. and Mrs. Laithwaite visited the old home locality ten years, ago, spendng several weeks visiting rela- tives and friends hereabouts. SYcn.- pathy is extended to the bereaved family. Mrs. Mary Sperling, who has been visiting, her brother, Mr. Ben Rath - well, has returned to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ray Fear. 'Miss June Stephenson motored to London on Saturday and is spending ' the next week. or .so visiting relatives. Mr. Louis Anderson and Mrs, Fred Thompson motored to Byron on Sun- day with M. Dick Ellwood to visit the latter's wife, Mrs. D. 'Ellwood. Clarkson of Toronto was called home las,'t week owing to the sudden death of her mother, the late Mrs. Wm. Steep. Mrs, T. Tierney, who has been here owing to the illness of her mother, Mrs, Maguire, visited her home in Toronto over the week -end. Mr. and Mrs, Vatcher of St. Johns, Nfld. and Miss Ethel Ixohnes of Toronto are in town, settling the affairs of their father, the late - Rev. A. A. Holmes. Mr, and Mrs. H. B. Manning and two little sons, Masters Jack and Doug- las, and .Miss Helen Manning of Toronto were week -end guests at their respective homes in town. Mr. and Mrs. Wm, Walker returned home Monday after spending sante weeks with their daughter, Mrs. Tanner of Timmins. During the first part of their visit they felt the cold, though residents up there said they could not remember a milder February in twenty years. Mr. A. T. Lucas, who has been spend- Ing seversl months with a son in Alberta, returned yesterday. Ile enjoyed this stay in Alberta al- though it was very cold, at times 'dropping to forty below. But there was no wind and neither snow or rain all winter. The snow which came early in the -season had al- most all worn away, however, al- though there was no soft weather. But it had just disappeared.
