On Februaryy 14. Valentines • much
in evidence and will be freely ex-
changed between friendel, .relatives,
!timers, and sundry, Its a day and
I season calling for gaiety and greet-
ing and devotion to the more frivol-
ous enjoyments of life. Those who
observe the light hearted spirit of
the festival will be quite in keeping
with the social custom of the day in
sending anonymous greetings—eom-
1 plimen'tary and funny. Time was
when the caricature valentine, rath-
er offensive in its make up, predom-
inated, it tended towards lost confi-
dence in human nature. To the cre-
dit of humanity they have about dis-
appeared. Now they are a thingof
beauty with 'hearts as the :centre of
the pleasing and attractive make-up,
the sending of them. will not incur
bllaek looks from the recipients, nor
create unkind .suspicions, The day.
if fittingly observed willprovoke
smiles and fluttering of many hearts
as :the artistic, flattering, perhaps en-
dearing, message is brought to view.
Surely In our stock .you will find
just what you want at the price you
want to pay, clever, comic, sincere
and conformable to the principals of
art, some are mechanical for the
amusement of young folks. We . even
have Pop -eye to express your greet-
ing an his funny way.

echoed to the shouts of the first form
girls, who, under the supervision of
Miss Beattie, were having a basket-
ball game. The girls were divided in.
to two squads, informally known
as the Reds and Whites. The game
was :close and highly interesting, We
predict•.that when let form grows up,
C.C.I. will have a star basket -ball
team. Score resulted in 19-18 for the
Whites. Line-up consisted of: Reds:
Helen Levis, (eapt.), Joyce Dougan,
Ellen McGill, forwards; Helen Law-
son, Edna pru aniond, Agnes John-
son, guards. Whites-4reta Taylor,
(•eapt.), Jean :Swan, Eileen Knox,
forwards;. Audrey Jones, Daphne Col-
ciough, Helen Mackenzie, guards.
Helen Lavis, 'Greta Taylor and Jean
Swan were the high scorers, and they
are certainly a promising trio. " Helen
Mackenzie _and Edna Drum.ond have'.
a future in guarding, their motto Is
"Give us Time."

Is Mr. Fines afraid of rebellion in
the school? Is there a plot afoot to
destroy him that he travels about
with a bodyguard? Upper School
and 3rd Form were rather surprised.
01i Wednesday, when he entered the
rooms, stoutly protected by thestal-
wart figures of three second form
boys. We gather that Miss Kitchen
is "wise" to the plat, for it was she
who dispatched the doughty trio to
protect the goings and comings of
our Principal Perhaps we should
have substituted "standing -army" for.
"bodyguard!", because throughout
the entire geometry period Mr. Fines
refused to let them sit down. Per-
haps this is necessary to keep' them
on the alert, but it is rather rough on.
