AUBURN
Fishing was made easy in this lo-
cality during the recent breakup, all
that was necessary being a pair of
rubber beets and a basket. The spring
flood carried innumerable fish, includ-
ing black bass and speckled trout, in-
to small ponds in fields adjoining the
river. When the water receded the
fish were left. Auburn folk waded
in with Iong rubber boots and came
out with baskets of fish, caught with
the hands. There were a few suckers
in the assortment.
Mrs. M. Murray of Guelph Junc-
tion spent the week -end with Mr. and
Mrs. R. D. Munro.
Mrs. Wm. Service of Goderich was
the guest of her daughter, Mrs. J.
Ewing, en Sunday last.
Miss. Annie Straughan of Wingham
was home with her parents over the
week -end.
Old Man Wpnter is giving his last
kick- of the season, (we hope), this
week. About a foot of snow fell On
Monday night and now there is good
sleighing again. So ,far in this dis-
trict there has been not much syrup
made.
The W. M. 8, of Knox United
church will hold a quilting and'tea on
Thursday afternoon and evening this
week in the .basement of the eburch.

In view of the startling disclosures brought out by the parlia-
mentary Committee, investigating into the business methods employ-
ed by some of the large mail order houses, showing up some of the
evils of mass buying, and very often, cheapening the articles, so
badly that very often the producers of goods are forced out of Busi-
ness.
Owing to these conditions the dealers in the smaller towns have
met with a lot of unfair competition and we would appeal to your
better judgment to spend your money at home, where you will get
just as good value for your money, and very often better.
