service was conducted by the re -tor,
Rev, R. M. Weekes who spoke on "The.
Meaning of Christmas."
DEATH OF MRS. JOHN REDMOND
This community mourns the death
of one of its dearly beloved and highly
esteemed' pioneer women, inthe death
of Mrs. John Redmond, who died
Christmas morning. She was in her
84th year and had been in ailing
health for two years, She was born
in Stanley township, the daughter of
William and Elizabeth Hunter. In
August, 1881, she was married to
John Redmond and they settled in
East _Wawanosh on the farm where
she dived and where her son lives. Mr.
Redmond passed away; 22 years ago.
'Vita Redmond was identified with; the
Sacred Heart Roman, Catholic church,
St. Augustine. She leaves to mourn
her loss, one son, Raymond, and one
daughter, Mrs. J. J. Bell of. Alberta.
Miss Grace Redmond is a granddaugh.
ter. There survives also one brother
and one sister, Dr. David C: Hunter
and Mrs. Elizabeth Collin; both of
Bad Axe, Mich. The funeral was held
on Tuesday jnorning at 10 o'clock,
from Sacred Heart Church, St. Angus-

At a meeting of the' villagers in the
' town hall on Monday evening, De-
•cember 27th, the three village trus-
tees were elected by acclamation. The
'trustees are Messrs. Jas. W. Medd,
Edgar Lawson and Thomas Riddell.
The regular monthly meeting of the
B.Y.P.U. was held in . the Baptist
'Church basement on Sunday evening.
The meeting' was in charge of Mr. and
Mrs. Frank Raithby. The scripture
'lesson was read by Viola Leatherland.
:Readings were given by Billy Raith-
- by and .Stanley McNall. The topic on
"The Birth of Christ", was given by
Mrs. Frank Raithby. The meeting
closed with prayer by. Frank Raithby,

Seaforth Couple Celebrate
65th A niyei'sary
Mr and Mrs. Sydney Jacobs, old
and highly esteemed residents of
Seaforth, quietly 'celebrated the 65th
anniversary of their wedding on Fri-
day ' at their 'home on Orde ` street,
with a dinner at which two or three
old friends were the, guests of honor
Mr. Jacobs, who' is in his 94th yeai,
is the only remaining member of a
large family of fifteen. He was born
in London Township a mile and a
half from Hycle Park, being a son of
the late Nathan Jacobs, and came to
Seaforth when 'a lad of seventeen
where he learned the trade of tin-
smith with' his brother-in-law, the
late John Brett of Egmondville.
He was employed for many' years
with Johnston Bros., hardware mer-
chants of Seaforth, and afterwards
went into business on his own ac-
count.
On December 24, 1872, he was mar-
ried in Seaforth to Emily Brownell of
Osnabrook Township, County of Stor-
mont, by the Rev. Mr. Level:, a Meth-
odist minister. They settled hi Sea -
forth, where they have spent most of
their life and have been very useful
citizens. They have never had a fam-
ily of their ownbut they 'have been
foster parents to several young peo-
ple in their connection, three of whom
provided a turkey dinner with all
the Christmas accessories for the
auspicious occasion, the various parts
of dinner coming from Vancouver,
Moosejaw and Montreal.
Mr. and Mrs. Jacobs both enjoy
good health and never have had any
serious illness. They have both learn-
ed the secret of growing old grace-
fully and have an optimistic outlook
on life.
Mrs. Jacobs does all her own work
and attends to the house and the
garden.

Postage Stamp Sales
Show Gain Of Million
OTTAW A. -Postage stamp sales on
the eight months ended Nov. 30 were
$1,058,622 :higher this year than in
the comparable period last year, the
Post Office Department announced on
Friday.
Total postage sold from April 1 to
Nay.. 30 this year was :$25,275,256,
compared with $24,216,634 last year,
the result of increased general busi-
ness activity, according to department-
al officials.
It is expected total revenue for the
department will exceed $42,000,000 in
the fiscal year ending March 31. Last
year's total was $41,181,000, of which
slightly more than $38,000,000 wee ac-
counted for, in postage.

Christmas At S. S. No. 8,
Goderich
On Tuesday evening, 'Dec. 21, the
Gully schoolhouse, charmingly decor-
ated for the occasion, was crowded
for its annual Christmas concert and
tree. With Mr. Greenshode' as chair
man a varied programme, prolonged
by numerous encores, was listened' to
with enjoyment. It consisted of "The
Light of the Mengel", 'a sacred dra-
ma of song and story enacted by the
pupils and ex -pupils in picturesque
attire; four humorous dialogues .play-
ed by the pupils: "Buying Eggs";
"Tile Christmas Crazy Giese"; "Old
Mr. Particular"; and "Carving the
Christmas Chicken." A Jumping
Jack chill by four of the smallest chil-
dren all complete in their boxes; a
pretty Christmas tree drill put on by
seven girls in white with red capes
and bonnets and cedar garlands; "The
Christmas Clowns", a performance in
which the seven clowns started off
with a print march, . put the audience
through several breath -taking (or.
mirthful) moments and made a crush-
ing finish in a heap on the stage.
"The Diet Doctor", a hilarious skit
enacted by three of the older girls
was greatly enjoyed. The ex -students
also took the majority of the parts
:n an Olde Lyme dance prepared by
Mrs. G Hopson, and a one -act com-
edy, "Miss Crabbitt Keeps Company'
both numbers gaining enthusiastic ap-
plause.
Spicy recitations were given by Bob-
bie Ramis and Lloyd Sowerby 01
Porter's Hill; by Douglas Stirling,
Harold' Warren, Oliver Hopson, Mil-
dred Westlake, Kenneth Stirling
Keith Stirling, Bertha Huhner, Bill
McIlwain and Doreen McGuire of the
Gully School, and by Little Lenore
McGuire, the youageet participator.
Messrs. Jim. Stirling and Tom Pavely
contributed fine readings; during the
evening Mr. Stirling .led in several
songs sung by the audience, and also
rendered two or three himself, hear
ti1y received as usual.
Splendid musical numbers were gi-
ven by Mr. J. Young on the violin,
WYir, G. Hopson on the aecordion, Mr.
Robert .Hopson on the guitar, and
Mr. Borden Clark an the accordion.
Musicneeded in other pants of the
programme was supplied by
Mackenzie, Miss'' Betty 'Stirling, Mrs.
Bill McGuire, Mr. B Clark, Mr. G.
Hopson and Miss G. Clark. Others
who took part besides those already
mentioned, were the Misses Elizabeth
Thiel and Jean and Thelma` Johnson

Granit Stirling and Harry Lowden.
Great credit and appreciation is dile
to the pupils and to the ex -pupils and
older friends who so willingly co-op-
erated with the teaehed to help a lit-
tle school
it-tle.school have a big codcert.
At the conclusion Mr. J. Stirling on
behalf of the school board and rate-
payers spoke and moved a vote of
thanks to the teacher, Miss Esther
MaeMath. Miss MacMath responded
and then withdrew to make way for
the guest of the evening e- Santa
Claus, Old Santa (he is about the
size of Mr. Ted Stirling) energetic-
ally distributed the spoils of the tree,
and after the National Anthem, the
gathering dispersed. '

The Christmas' Program of Turner's
Sunday School was presented on Wed-
nesday evening, December 22nd. The
program consisted of Choruses and
Carols by the S. S. scholars. A dial-
ogue, "The Christ Child," by several
girls; a duet, "Santa is Coming to
Town," by Eleanor Pepper and George
Turner; a drill, "The Candle Light,"
by 10 girls in white with candles; a
dialogue, "Three Apprentices,' by
several adults; 2 quartettes, by the
adult Bible Class; a dialogue, "Yes
Suh, Boss" by the boy's class. Santa
arrived fit due time and attended to
the well -laden tree.
Cole -Lee
A quiet wedding took place at the
Londesboro parsonage 'at ten o'clock
Christmas Day when Rev. A. W. Gar-
diner united Miss Hazel Lee, daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Lee and
Mr. Oscar Cole in the holy bonds of
'matrimony. Mr. Fred Peckitt sup-
ported the bridegroom and the bride's
sister, Miss Clarice Lee, was brides-
maid. After dinner at the' home of
Mr. and Mrs. Lee, Mr. and Mrs. Cole
left or a honeymoon trip.

Northside United Church parson-
age, Seaforth, was the scene of a
quiet but pretty wedding at 6 o'clock
December 23, when Annie Mildred
Louise Cudinore, only daughter of Mr.
and. Mrs. Samuel Clulmore, was uni-
ted in marriage to .Lorne Joseph Pink-
ney, son of Mrs. Jos. Pinkney, Sea-
forth, and the late Joseph Pinkney of
Stratford. Rev. T. A. Carmichael of-
ficiated. The bride looked lovely' in
a. wine colored velvet dress with hat
to match and brown accessories. She.
