Calf Enjoys Ride In Auto
One never knows what may happen
in the county town. On Mon-
day, 'according to a story from
that great •centre, a car on
the Square caused pedestrians
to stare. There was nothing wrong
with the car or the driver, but placidly
staring through the window from its
comfortable perch on the seat was
a calf, contentedly munching, possib-
ly on the upholstery, as it took in the
sights.
The W, D. Fair Co. express greet-
ings to its friends with the hope that
the New°Year will be one of'happi-
ness and prosperity.
We want you to know that we deep-
ly appreciate your patronage as evi-
dence of your confidnece in us. With
your help we shall try to continue to
merit your goodwill.

Croll In Favor Of
Boxing Day Holiday:
In his capacity as Ontario Minister
of Labor, Hon. David Croll declared
himself to be a champion of `Boxing
Day" holiday.
The minister said he had no auth-
ority to enforce the holiday in any
business or industry but he suggest-
ed commerce should follow the gov-
ernment's lead and grant a Saturday
holiday this year. He added:
"1 think a free Saturday with pay
is coming to all those retail clerks
whom you and I have been driving
crazy recently and who have brought
their employers the biggest returns
of any Christmas season since the
depression. As minister of labor I'd
suggest to retailers they give their
people this well-earned break."
At the same ti e Mr. Crolll sug-
gested
u -gested business and industry might
well folloW the lead of the govern-.
meat 'in restoring 'pay cuts. • He
pointed out the last of the Ontario
civil service cuts would be, restored
at the first of the year.
"That's the sort of a lead business
is looking for,"
