Mr, Dodds Holiday of Fleming, Sask., is home to spend Christmas and the holiday season with his mother, Mrs, A. J. Holloway. Mrs. C. Blight and little son of Mas- sey are here to spend the Christ- mastide with the lady's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Hellyar. Miss Delle O'Neil Baine up from To- ronto Tuesday night and will spend the Christmas vacation with her sisters in Clinton and London. Mrs. H. B. Chant came np from St, Catharines yesterday t o spend Christmas with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Sut- ter, aid family. Mrs, Ed, Nickle and daughter, Miss Shirley, visited the foriner's sister and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. G. A. McCague, in Toronto over last week -end. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Roberton of Winnipeg arrived home this week th spend the Christmas holiday per- iod, at their respective homes here and in Stratford. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Scruton, who have been residing in London, have returned to town and .have settled in the Morrish house, Albert street, Mr. Scruton is with the Canadian Oil Company. Mr. Ian MacLeod was in London • last week attending a gathering of representatives of the different counties of Western Ontario to discuss and form plans for the con - .'servation of forests and reforesta- tion. Mrs. J. B. Rbmball left Saturday to spend Christmas and the remain- der of the winter with her son and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Rumball of Montreal.. Both Mrs. Rumball's sons are now in Montreal so they will be a united family on Christ - Inas Day, Messrs.' Lorne Brown and George Cardwell returned last week after a delightful trip to Redlands, Calif. Mrs. Cardwell, who accompanied them on the motor trip to Califor- nia. remained for a longer visit with relatives 'and will not return until spring. Mr. Alex. Addison of the Western 'University 'is spending the Christ - Inas vacation with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Addison of town. H. Wheeler, The many friends of Miss Jean Murdoch, bride -elect, met at the home of Mrs. W. Elliott and presented her with two electric lamps an iron and a toaster. The program took the•form of a mock wedding. Those taking part were: Bride, T. K. Cornish; groom, Martha McDonald; brides- maid, H. Zapfe; groomsman, Mrs. Patterson; bride's father, Mrs. Jam- ieson; flower girl, Nora Eyre; min- ister, Mrs. G. Swan. After a dainty lunchcardswere enjoyed. Mr. D. Ward was taken to Clinton hospital Monday night and operated on for appendicitis. His many'friends hope he will soon be better. Mr. and Mrs. A. Smith of Bluevale spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Berry. Croll In Favor Of Boxing Day Holiday: In his capacity as Ontario Minister of Labor, Hon. David Croll declared himself to be a champion of `Boxing Day" holiday. The minister said he had no auth- ority to enforce the holiday in any business or industry but he suggest- ed commerce should follow the gov- ernment's lead and grant a Saturday holiday this year. He added: "1 think a free Saturday with pay is coming to all those retail clerks whom you and I have been driving crazy recently and who have brought their employers the biggest returns of any Christmas season since the depression. As minister of labor I'd suggest to retailers they give their people this well-earned break."
