Another pioneer has gone on, in
the: person of M. "James McQueen
who passed away on Monday evening
Nov. 16th," at his home in Brucefield
He was taken suddenly ill on,Fri-
day night with a severe chill, 'tip to
which. time he had been in his usual
good health. On Sunday night he
took a paralytic stroke from which
he dict not rally,
He -was' the eldest son of the late
Jaiiues McQueen and Isabella Swan
and was born on Dec. 6th, 1854, bn
the London Road, a mile north of
Brucefield, where he continued to re
side until his marriage on December 2ncl, 1881, to Miss Susan Lanabor-
ough, of Tucicersmith.
Mr, and Mrs. McQueen lived for
twelve years on their farm on the
411 concession of Tuckersmith, . and
then bought the Duncan farm on the
2nd of Stanley, where they lived _un-
til retiring in Brucefield eighteen
years ago, In 1903 M. McQueen was
inducted as an Elder in the Presby-
terial), now United Church.
Besides his wife he is survived by
two sons and one daughter, Robert
Arthur McQueen of Stanley, W. M.
McQueen of Toronto and Mrs. L. For-
rest of Brucefield. Also two broth-
ers and three sisters remain, Mr. Jno.
McQueen of Clinton and Wm. of Van-
couver, Mrs. Bessie O'Neil of Regina,
Sask., Mrs. George Watts of Clinton
and Mrs. Jas. Walker, Tucicersmith.- I
The funeral was held in the Uni-
ted Church, Wednesday at 2 p.m., his
pastor, Rev. W. A. Bremner, officiat-
ing,' assisted by Rev. C. W. D. Cosens
of Clinton. The floral offerings -were
many and beautiful. The pallbearers
were Messrs, Fred Boyce, Drew Swan
Thomas Baird Hugh Berry, Ross
Scott and John T. Baird. Interment
in Baird's cemetery.
Among those who were present at
the funeral from a distance were
Mr. W. C. Landsborough of Port Cre-
dit and Mr. W. N. McQueen of To-
ronto.

mock wedding were: the bridal chorus
• played' by Mrs. W. McBeth; bride,
• Mrs. G. Swan; groom Audrey' Swan;
bridesmaid, Mary McCully; grooms-
man, Mrs. A. Patterson; flower girl,
Marion Hill; i'ingbearer, Blanche
Zapfe; minister, Jean Murdoch; Anna
Aikenheacl took the part of the bride's
father, after which the two little girls
drew in a prettily -decorated wagon of
lovely gifts for which Jean thanked
her friends very graciously.
Mrs. A. Mowbray of Bluevale spent
Monday with, her cousin, Mrs. H.
Berry. -

Mr. Cornish's father, who, we are
Isorry to say, is in very poor health.
Mr. and Mrs. John Hohner and
family of Goderich spent Sunday
with Mrs. A. Hohner.
Mr. John Grainger, who underwent
an operation in Clinton Hospital, is
not improving as his many friends
would like to see him.
' Miss Louise MVlarshail spent the
week -end at her home in London.
Miss Anna Aikenhead is spending
sone time in London.
The local Lodge of Oddfellows en-
tertained their families to a fowl sup-
per on Friday evening.
- On Thursday evening of last week
about thirty-five ladies gathered at
the home of Mrs. II, F. Berry to hon-
or Miss Jean Fotheringham, a bride
of Saturday, at a cream and green
kitchen shower. The entertainment
took the form of a mock wedding. A

Miss Ethel Hoggart attended the
Royal Whiter Fair at - Toronto last
week.
We are very 'sorry. to report that
Mrs. Mountain of the village is very
seriously 111. Her many friends are
hoping for a complete recovery.
Mrs. Glover of Detroit came home
Sunday to spend a few days at the
homeof her mother.
Mrs. Gardiner has gone to spend
the week at her home in Shelburne,
while Rev, Mr. Gardiner is attending
a meeting in Toronto.
Miss Dorothy Little and her mother
spent Saturday and Sunday in To-
ronto taking in the Royal Winter
Fair.
Friday is the day of the bazaar,
The Women's Association hold this
event yearly*, in order ' to help the
Community with their Christmas
shopping problems. There will be the
usual variety of booths, The Iadies
are also serving supper, with a very
appetizing menu. Come and enjoy an
afternoon in the Community Hall.
Nothing will be sold till 3 o'clock.
The monthly meeting of the Wo-
men's Institute will be held in the
Community Hall on Dec. 3rd. A talk
by Mrs. Robt. Fairservice, nmsie, Miss
M. Shaddick, reading, Mrs. F. lJe-
Gregor, contests and games. Conven- 1
ors: Mrs. R. Vodden, Mrs. A. Vodden.
Roll call: "Suggestions for Christ-
mas Gifts." Hostesses: Mrs. R. Fair -
service, Mrs. T. Peckitt, Miss R. Shad -
dick, Miss M. Shaddick and Mrs. R.
Wells.
The regular meeting of the Y.P.U.
was held Sunday evening, with Carl
Radford presiding, The meeting op-
ened with a hymn, after which the
Lord's Prayer was repeated in uni-
son. The minutes of the last meet-
ing were read by Alex. Richards. The
business was then transacted after
which another hymn was sung and
Thelma Scott led in prayer. The scrip-
ture lesson was read by Beth Shob-
brooke. The topic, "Leadership
Training," was given by Ruth Lyon.
During the taking of the offering
Donald Gibbs sang' a sole accompanied
by Mr. Robt. Gibbs at the piano. A
story was read by Mrs. Fred Thomp-
son and Rev. Mr. Gardiner gave an.

The meeting closed a hymn and
the Mizpah Benediction,
Miss Margaret Fothergill has re-
turned home after spending two
weeks with Miss Ferne McDowell of
Westfield, her cousin.
Short Course Now On At
Auburn
Mr. Ian MacLeod is in Auburn this
week,, where a short course for
young farmers and a homemaking
class for girls opened on Tuesday.
Mr. MacLeod took a judging class to
the Royal Winter Fair last week, the
team consisting of H. Lobb, Clinton;
Wilfred Shortreed, Walton and Stew-
art Bryans, Blyth. They strutted
their stuff but did not get into the
money. •

According to an official preliminary
report, recently issued on the scales of
fertilizers in Canada during the year,
ended June 30, 1936, the total sales of
442,085 short tons consisted of 96,479
tons of fertilizer materials and 137,344
tons of mixed fertilizer' sold in Canada,
and exports of ° 190,268' tons of fertil-
izer materials and 17,994 tons of mixed
fertilizers. Compared with 1935, the
193E figures ,show an increase of over
42,000 tons
