Mrs. Shaddick, Londesboro, spent
The past .week with her sister, Mrs..
J. Cudmore.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Jervis and Miss
Lola, late of Brucefield,, are taking
uli residence in the village again.
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs.
Ilarry McCool on the birth of a little
son, Jan. 6th.
The Misses Thelma and Rota Cud-
'more have been visiting their coos.
ins, the Misses Shaddick' of Londe-.
'boyo, for a number of days.
The morning service on Sunday.
was very well attended by the con-
gregation of the United Church, Rev.
Mr. Herbert preached a sermon of
special interest and fine music was
rendered by the choir. During the
Sunday School ,session, Mrs. Herbert
temperance convener, spoke for sev-1
ei•al moments, .delivering an itnpres
sive and interestingtalk on this im-
;lnortant subject.
'The past week having been the
'World's' Week of Prayer, the pastor
here held meetings in the village
,church on Monday, Wednesday and
•
Friday, and in the charges of Eben-
ezer and Zion on. Tuesday and
Thursday. Despite inclement weath•
er, these meetings were very well
attended. On Friday the Y.P.U.; di-
rected by Mr, Mervyn Lobb, mission-
ary convener, was in charge of the
joint prayer and young people's
gathering. A good program was ;op-
ened with the singing of several
hymn's, after which Mr. Herbert led
)n prayer. Mr. Harold Yeo read the
scripture and the comments on 'the
lesson were given by Mr. Herbert in
his customary, .interestiege manner.
A guest. speaker, Mrs.' Bert Lobb,
held the audience for' several min-
ute
s as she spoke of
thetopic nkc fo r
the evening, "Inequality in our Con-
munities." Mrs. Lobb paid high tin-
bute to the Y.P.S. Which was anuch'
appreciated. The gathering broke
up with the final.hynm and the bene-
diction. Miss Esther Macklath, citiz•
Cnship convener, is preparing this

TOWN COUNCIL HOLDS .
INAUGURAL MEETING
(Continued from- page 1)
councillors ,said was being carried
put. in other municipalities, seemed to
appeal- to the council only that as
the rate is not struck until March
or April taxes could 'not be collected!
in January. However, the idea seem-
ed to be thatt
something might' bo
done in June.
Councillor Walker requested the
members of the council to take a
look at the police office, which he
thought to be in a disgraceful state,
and' give him some ideas about ren-
ovating it.
The case of a man who -was apply-
ing. for. relief not wishing, to quit, us-
ing his car, which . is •used , in his
business, s ss .came in for r sone discus-
sign, but on motion of .Reeve Elliott
and Councillor Paisley it was left in
'the hands of the welfamye committee.
On notion of Councillor. Livermore
and Reeye Elliott it was decided to
procure some salt, inix it with sand
already on hand, and sprinkle the
icy walks. •
On notion of Councillors Murdoch
and Lawson it was decided that
chairmen of committees bring for-
ward a written report eachmonth,
including the amount of the approp-
riation • spent to. date. •
Mr, Murdoch also suggested that
a statement of all monies paid into
sinking funds for debentures each
year should be given to the public. It
was his opinion ..that if the public
%vas informed as to how ninth money
is collected each year to place in
sinking funds they Would not -be so
willing to. have debentures issued.
As no committee reports were
forthcoming this Meeting, not even, -
financial -report, the session was a
short one. And only one lone citizen
came in to witness the inaugural
meeting of the town council.

Johnston opened the scoring for Cline-
ton when he took a pass from Lever.
The period ended 2-1 for Goderich.
Although•• both teams tried hard in
the second period, neither was able
to count, n t
due a largely
to the Pirie
work of the oppoding goalies..
The third period had but one min-
ute left to play with Goderich still
leading 2-1 when Clinton tied the
score. Levee scored time tying goal

And while the Colts were winning
on -:Monday night here, the Juniors
were suffering their third straight
defeat in' the 'Classic city of. Strat-
ford and as in their previous losses
they went down fighting. Not being

naturally put then at a disadvantage,
however they gave a good account of
themselves and it was not until the
third , period that the speedy Mitee.
were ableto pull into the lead and
go or to win the game by the score
of 5.3.
Lever

though Stratford tried hard the good
work of Neilans in the Clinton nets

Stratford ..Mites Here
.. Tonight
The Stratford Mites are here to
night. They are a fast, clever outfit,,
but we have the local kids' word for
itthat they are going to give all
they haye, and on the smaller ice
they should poll out a win, which
they need badly to stay in the con
Hing. Give the kids a boost and be
present at the genie. You are bound'
to get your money's worth.
