The sympathy of the community
goes ,out to Mr. Russell King and
Mrs, Albert Killough in the death of
their father, Mr, Albert King of
Goderioh; also to his brother and
sisters, Mr. Wallace King and Mrs.
Doyle and Miss Margaret King. Mr.
King suffered a heart attack early
Saturday morning and passed peace-
fully away Sunday evening. The
funeral was held Tuesday.
There will be no service in St.
Mark's Anglican Church next Sun-
day, as Haryeit Horne Services are
being held in Blyth.
Jack Weir is attending Shaw's
Business College in Toronto this
year,
Mr. and Mrs Thomas Bogie and
ftunily are living in the house form-
erly occupied by Gordon Murray. Mr.
Bogie is running his brother's grist-
mill. Harold has taken over the run-
ning of a McColl-Frontenac gasoline
truck.

The B, Y. P, U. held its monthly
meeting Sunday night with Earl
Raithby in charge. Harold Reid led
in prayer. The scripturewas read
responsively. Jean Yuugblutt gave a
reading, and Roy and Harry Webster
gave a mouthorgan selection. Marj-
orie Johnston gave the topic on "The,
Good Physician". At the conclusion
of the meeting the annual election
of officers was held which resulted
as follows:, President, Lloyd John-
ston; vice-president, Bill Raithby;
secretary -treasurer, Harold Reid;
pianist, Harold Reid.
Owing to the funeral of Albert
King being held on Tuesday, the
Women's Institute is being postponed
until Friday afternoon.
M. and Mrs. Ezekiel Phillips, Mr.
and Mrs. Thomas Johnston and
Laura Phillips were at Lucknow on
Sunday.
A number from here attended the
Blyth Fair on Saturday. ...
Kenneth Scott and Lloyd McLarty
have signed up to join the Army.
H, C. Riordan is relieving at. the
C.N.R. station, Milverton at present.
The Y.P.S. of Knox United Church
held a corn and marshmallow roast
on Earl Wightman's,flats last Thurs-
day .night.
Mr. and Mrs, Edgar Lawson and
Miss Bernice visited with friends in
Scafcrth on Sunday. Mrs, Heinberg-
er and daughter, Margaret, who have
been visiting the Lawson home re-
turned to her home with them.
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Ferguson and
:family of Clinton spent the weekend
with Mr. and Mrs. John McKnight.
The W.M.S. of Knox Presbyterian
church met at the home of Mrs, Her:
mean Daer with. a good attendance.
Thomeeting was opened by prayer
by Mrs, .Lawson. The scripture was
read responsively followed by prayer
by Mrs. Woods. It was decided to
clean the church -in the near future.
A letter was read from a Western
paper regarding the; departure of
Rev. and Mrs. R. J. Ross from Round
Lake, Sask. Mr. and Mrs. Ross were
former members of this _ church.
Mrs. Jas. Howitt -read a poen which
was composed by . Miss Margaret
Small, a patient in Toronto Hospital
and a former resident here. The topic
taken from the. Study Book "Moving
Millions was taken by Miss Josephine
.Weir. Mrs. Lawson gave a report
of the Presbyterian Rally which was
held at Goderieh last week. Mrs.
Falmer Dawson favoured with a
solo. Tlie. meeting was closed by re.
peating the Lord's Prayer in unison.
Afterwards, a dainty lunch was serv-
ed by the hostesses assisted by Mrs:
J. C. Stoltz and Mrs. J. Wagner.
Harvest Home Service will be held
in the Anglican Church on Sunday,
Oct. 1st, the morning service will be
in charge of the rector, Rev. R. M.
Weeks, at the evening' service Rev.
Mr. O'Neil of Clinton will be the
speaker.
Anniversary Services will be held
in the United Church on. Sunday, Oc-
tober 8th, when Rev. Mr. Williams,
Associate Secretary for Missions,
will be the guest speaker. Special
music will be supplied by the choir,
BAYFIELD
William J. Foster
Th deathoccurred The ceu red in Clinton on
Saturday, September 16, of a highly
respected citizen of Bayfield in the
person of William James Foster in
his eighty-ninth year. The deceased
man, who was the third son of the
late Margaret Barton and John Fost-
er, was born at Varna, Stanley town-
ship, on January 21, 1851. Here he
grew to manhood and served his af-
prenticeship as a blacksmith with the
late Joseph Collwell. He followed his
trade in Blackhorse, Constance,
4Vltiteehurch, Sandusky, Mieh., Mes-
aba, Minn., and Strathelair, Matt. He
was married to Miss Mary Henry,
daughter of the late Elizabeth Rosa
and Alex Henry of Whitechurch, who
survives him. On the first of May
last, Mr. and Mrs. Foster celebrated
their golden wedding anniversary. In
1909, Mr. Foster retired and they
came east to the farm now owned by
Janes Wamsley. in 1911 they moved
to the cottage en Clan Gregor Square
where they have resided , ever since.
Mr. Foster, who wtis of a quiet,
genial disposition, was a member of
the Canadian Order of Foresters, and
in religion a Presbyterian. Besides
his widow, he is survived by two
sisters, Miss Annie Foster and Mrs.
Henry Diehl of Stanley township.
The funeral, which was private, was
held from his late• residence on Mon-
day afternoon and interment made in
Bayfield cemetery. Rev. Gordon Ped-
die conducted the services. .The pall-
bearers were: Messrs. Robt, and Mac
Ross, Jas., Reid, A. Armstrong, Oliv-
er Foster and Carl Diehl. Relatives
and friends from a distance who were
present for the funeral included: Mr.
and Mrs. M. Green, Mrs, F. Henry,
Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. Wm:; Coul-
ter, Mr. and Mrs. Rabt, Ross, Messrs
M. and F. Ross, Will Henry and Miss
Olive Terriff, Whitechurch; Mr. and
Mrs. George Black, Paris; Mrs. Ern-
est Heaton, Ferndale, Mich.; Mr. and
Mrs. Oliver Foster, Mrs.'' Harold
Gregor, Mrs. Harold Paull, Pidgeon,
Mich.; Mrs, Carl Millikin,- Saginaw,
Mich. Much sympathy is felt for
Mrs. Foster, who only came home
front Clinton hospital oh Monday
and is still confined to bed.

Havest Thanksgiving service was

morning last. The church was very
tastefully decorated for the occasion.
