The Baptist Ladies Aid held the

Mrs. Wm. J. Thompson celebrated
her 70th birthday here. Members

Mrs, Thompson was formerly Mat-
ilda Clark, daughter' of John and
Matilda Clark of West• Wawanosh
and has . alwayslived in this com-
munity where she has endeared her-
self to a host of friends. Mrs.
Thompson is a valued member of
Knox United Church and W. M. S.
end also a member of the local
'Women's Institute.
An auction sale of the farm and
household furniture of Mss. Richard
:Bruce, West Wawanosh was held last
Thursday. The farm was purchased
by Mr. Harry Shields of Dunlop for
.:$2,300. Thos. Gundry was the auc-
tioneer.
A large number of spectators gath-
ered at one of the town supply tanks
to see a new fire apparatus demon-
strated by an agent from London.
The trustees of the village are con-
•eidering purchasing a new fire ap-
paratus.
Miss Evelyn Plaetzer is attending
Stratford Normal this year.
Mr. Arthur Marsh of Manitou,

chair. Harry then thanked them very
fittingly for the lovely gift and good

by "Memories of Grandmother".
The program was commenced by the
grandmother's singing "We're Here
For Fun Right From the Start" and
"Little Brown Church in the Vale,"
Mrs. Wm, ° Heslc gave a reading "I
Answered No." Mrs. Jos. Manning
gave the History of the Londesboro
Women's Institute from the time it
was organized on February 13, 1909
with 13 members on roll, up to the
present time, September 1939 with
80 members on roll, She told of
many worthy projects which the
Institute had been the means of get-
ting started and had contributed
moneys to, showing that the Instit-
ute was a worth while society. The

Mrs. Ri Vodden. The grandmothers
then sang another chorus, "Ginger,
Up" and "When. we all get together",
this was repeated tseve-5a1 tunes with
all joining in., All gliandmothers
were then asked to come on the stage.

Blyth ladies contributed a chorus
which was much appreciated. The
most interesting item on the pro-

ers quilt which was on display, Mrs.

being the oldest grandmother, ,also;

greatest distance. The young child-
ren wore treated to all -day suckers.
This concluded the afternoon's pro-
ceedings. All joined in singing "God
Save the King". A sumptuous sim-
per was served; by the group in
charge with a treat of ice cream
from the, president. About 135 were
served, including 'the Hullett town-
ship council, which happened to be
in session the same afternoon. We
were pleased to have them with its.
