There was no property damage but the riv- er Qyerflowed the flats. • ;Wedding Anniversaries have been in common aroultd,liere latdty.` Mr. and Mrs, Frecl Toll Sr. celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on Saturday, and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Craig, were 24 year married also on March 25. Mr. and Mrs. Earl •Mc- Knight celebrated their 12th we'dding anniversary on Friday. The Woman's Institute held a social evening, Friday in the For-, rester's Hall. The members enter- tained their husbands and families. Euchre and 'crokinole were played, The winner at euchre were Wm. Hag- gitt, Reid Sheppard, Margaret 'King, and Stanley McNeil who played the part of a woman. The prize winners at crokinole were Mrs. C. A., Howson, Mr. Herb. The PublicLibraryis having a play "April Fool" given in the Forrester's Hall on Wednesday, April 5. The cast is members of the Benmiller Y. P. U. Mr. Ezekiel Phillips has rented his 100 care farm, which was formerly occupied by Mr., Elwin Wilson, to Mr, Walter Rohner of Zurich who takes possession immediately. • Mr. Leslie Hallam witnessed a spectacular sight the other day when he sighted 34 deer on the farm of Mrs, Robt Plunkett. Harry Watson also saw some in his bush and they appeared quite tame and there were Soule fawn among them., DOME -STAFFORD A quiet but pretty wedding took place at. Ottawa on March 17th when Rev. Win. Alp united ' in marriage Elsie Martha, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Stafford, of Moose Jaw, to Eugene Francis, only son of Mr. and Mrs. William Dobie of Auburn. After a short honeymoon Mr. and Mrs. Dobie will reside in Ottawa where Mr. Dobie i5 a teacher. WOMAN'S INSTITUTE The Woman's Institute met in the Forrester's Hall, on Tuesday after- noon with the president, Mrs. Law- son in the chair. A letter of apprecia- tion was read from Mrs. McDougal, also a -letter regarding the convention to be held in Guelph on May 10-11-12. Final arrangements were made for a social evening to be held in the hall, Friday evening, March 24th. Mrs Jeremiah Taylor gave a reading on "St. Patrick." The topic: "Horne Economics" was given by Mrs. Gor- don McClinchey. Mrs. Kalnter Daw- son. favored with a solo, "My Wild Irish Rose." A photo udntest conduct- ed by Mrs. Gordon Taylor created great interest and some amusement. As the ladies tried to place some of the old time pictures. Mrs. R. J Phillips won first prize and Mrs James Woods the second. A vote of thanks was extended to Mrs. Taylor for preparing the contest. The roll call was answered by an Irish joke or story. The singing •of' the 'Nation- al Anthem brought the meeting' to a cline 'after which a dainty lunch was served by Mrs. W. H. Sheppard, Mrs. A. J. Ferguson and Mrs. Frecl Ross. The roads in this district have dried :up wonderfully during the past few days due to the high winds. Joe Riley' is busy with the road grader. LONDESBORO Mr. Ernest Adams sold a fine team of horses last week. Mr. Wm. Knox has the well driller at work drilling a new well, Miss Bessie Mitchell from •St. Marys is working for Mrs. Janes Elsley. Mrs. J. TambIyn spent a short time at the home" of her brother, Wm. Hiles; Clinton, on Sunday. Several of the farmers are making maple syrup. Mrs, W. T. Brunsdan is not at all well and is confined to her bed. The Sunday School orchestra is playing at Burn's Church. on Tties- day night, Rev. Menzies also giving his travelogue. Miss Helen Youngblutt of London spent the weekend with her parents here. ` Dr. t, and Mrs. Wortley of Gorrl; visited with .Mr. and Mrs. Rein. Youngblutt on -Sunday afternoon. The afternoon tea and bazaar which was held in the Community Hall last Saturday afternoon by the W. I. was a splendid success. Al- though the weather was b a d and much sickness in the community ant village,.quite a goad number turned out. A very good program was pre- sented With Rev. A. Menzies as chair- man. At the close of the program the President, Mrs. E. Adams, an- nounced,'the :'ticket contest with little Gail, Maturing drawing the tickets from a well shaken box. Manning received at the door. A very pleasant afternoon was spent and the proceeds of the afternoon was over fifty dollars. BRU CEFIELB Three from Brucefield who wrote examinations on the Temperance -Study Course of October 1938, have won cash prizes awarded by the Huron County Woman's Christian Temperance Union. Evelyn Aikenhead writing in the senior class secured second prize and received a cash prize of $1.25; Betty Allan in the Junior class for girls 10 to 11 years was second and received $1.00; Bobby Al- lan was fourth in the Junior boys 9 years and under and received ,85c, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Townsend of U. S. are visiting Mrs. Mary Mc- Kenzie. Mrs. George Swan spent a few days with her daughter, Mrs.. E. 'Sehilbe, of Zurich. Mr. and Mrs. •Ross : Scott spent a couple of days last week in Toronto. Mr., and Mrs. H. Zapfe, Mr. and Mrs. Austin Zapfe and Keith, Mr, and .Mrs. Abe Zapfe and children spent Saturday evening, with Mr. and.
