C. Wilson who spoke on "Power to
Endure". The choir rendered an an-

read a poem composed by Miss Mar-

`village. The title of the poem "Does
Jesus Care."
At Knox Presbyterian, Church the
"Sunday School and Church united at
Union Service in the Church. Rev.
A. M. Boyle conducted ,the service,
and preached a splendid sermon on.
"`Worshipping the Lord." Donald Ross
presided at the Church organ.
Bev. G. W. Sherman preached a
forceful sermon at the Baptist church

At St, Marks Anglican Church the
rector, Rev. R. M. Weekes spoke on
"The Atheist".

C. G. I. T. -Twenty-five members
of the Friendship Circle of the C.G.
I.T. of the United Church met in the
basement of the church with their
leader Miss Dorothy Anderson in
charge. The meeting was opened
with a' sing song after which the
Scripture was read by Vivian
Straughan, and Jean Lawlor gave a
recitation. Misses Maxine and Roxie
Ball favoured with a duet. Miss Elsie
Patterson gave a story. This was
the annual meeting and the election
of officers resulted as follows: Pres.
Ruth Arthur; vice -pros,, Mary Mun-
ro; ;sec.-treas.,,,-Helen Robertson
assist, sec.i,tireas.;t Kathleen Patter-
son. Miss Edna Archambault led in
a few gamesand then the meeting
was dismissed.
B. Y. P. U. -The Young People of
the Baptist Church met in the church
Sunday evening with Marjorie and
Lloyd Johnston in charge. ' Harold
Reid led in prayer and Stanley Mc -
Nall: gave a reading. The Scripture
was read by Bill Raithby, and Mrs.
Wm. Haggitt rendered a solo. Marj-
orie and Lloyd ,Johnston and Roy
Webster gave a musical number. Mr.
Geo. Raithby gave the topic on "Road
signs in the Road of . Life". The
meeting was dismissed with the Miz-
pah benediction. This being the en-
nual , meeting, the following officers
were elected: President, Mr, Earl
Raithby; vice -pies., Mr., Stanley Mc -
Nall; see: treas., Harold Reid. The
Executive will arrange the programs
for the coming, year.

The Mission Circle of the United
Church held their thankoffering meet-
ing in the basement of the church
on Sunday evening. The Sunday
School Orchestra supplied the music.
Those who took part were: Miss Beth
Shobbrook, ad the organ; Donald
Gibbs, piano; Jack Webster, Melvin
Brundson, Raymond Snell, Eddie Mo -
Nall and Phyllis Manning with
violins; with Fraser Thompson as
leader. The music was very fine. Miss
Isobel Forbes read the scripture les-
son. Rev. Menzies was the guest
speaker and spoke on the work of
Rev. T. Bone who was tract distrib-
utor amongst the sailors. Thiswas
most interesting. Slides were shown
on the Bible where and when it was
first read. Mrs. W. Lyon assisted
by Miss Arnott read the lines as each
picture was shown. Miss E, Sprung
sang a pleasing solo. Meeting closed
with prayer by Mr. Menzies.
Mr. Fred Shobbrook is improving
his residence by having a veranda
put up which will add greatly to the
appearance of the hone.,
Mr. J. P. Manning is having a new
furnace installed in his store.
Miss Helen Youngblutt of London
spent the weekend at the home of
her parente.
The W. A. met in the school room
of the church on Wednesday last with
Mrs. R. Townsend presiding. Letters
of thanks were read, also the minutes
of previous meeting by the secretary,
Mrs. H. Riley. It was decided to
hold their bazaar on October 28th In
Community Hali. A tea will also be
served in connection. Ladies are ask-
ed to keep this event in view. The
program was a reading by Mrs, T.
Millar; solo, Miss Dorothy Griffiths;
reading, Mrs, M. Maiming. Meeting
closed by repeating the Mizaph Ben••
edietion. Lunch wag served by the
group in charge. A quilt was also.

the church. There was a good at-
tendance. The choir was composed.

Four little girls, Betty Brunsdon,
Edna Ball, Margaret Tamblyn and
Doreen Armstrong gave an exercise,
Mr. 0. Stewart as chairman. Another
part was given by Ruth Vodden,
Thelma Scott, Kenneth Stewart and
Fraser Thompson. The front of the
'church was' nicely decorated with
many beautiful flowers. Four girls
took up the offering.

Mrs, Margaret McKenzie received
word of the death of her eldest sis-
ter, Mrs. Elizabeth McDonald, who
passed away at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. (Dr.) McClennan,
Windsor. Deceased was born in
Varna 88 years ago 'rend was mar-
ried in 1871 by Rev. John Ross,
Brucefield. She is survived by four
sons and two daughters, Interment
took place in Ripley.
Mrs. Lottie McAsls attended the
funeral of her sister-in-law, Mrs.
McDonald, held in Ripley this week.
Friends of Master Alex Thompson
will regret to hear that he is in Sea -
forth hospital where be underwent
an operation for appendicitis on
Tuesday.
