Women's Institute
The members of the local Women's
Institute were entertained by the
children of the district at their
monthly meeting in the Forrester's
:Hall on Tuesday afternoon with 110
present. Following the Ode, the
Lord's Prayer was Jed by Miss Mar-
gicret King. The president, Mrs.
. Edgar Lawson expressed her thanks
to Mrs. F. Ross and Mrs. W. H.
. Sheppard for their helpful assistance
when Miss Ester Siieter was here

: arrangement of furniture. Miss Mar-
:garet. King read a letter from Mrs.
Fraser the district secretary, in re-

W.M.S. Addressed by Returned
Missionary
The meeting of the W.M.S. was
held Iast Wednesday afternoon and
was opened by the call to worship
by the kresident, Mrs. C. Haugh.
•Following' the singing of a hymn the
roll call was answered by verses on
Giving. Reports were given and the
offering taken. Miss E. Bowey led
in prayer and Mrs. A.. McQueen read
the scripture lesson. front. 1 'Corin-
thians; 18th chapter, Prayer was
offered by a number of members.
Mrs. T. Baird took the chair for
the study period the theme of which.
was "The Church and Social Wel-
fare". She was assisted by Mrs. H.
Aikenhead and Mrs. A. Zapfe. An
interesting address was' given by
Mrs. Dr. Struthers; a returned mis-
sionary from North Henan, China.
Her address was much appreciated.
Mrs: Struthers is a neice of Mrs.
Neil McGregor, one of the oldest and
most active workers in our W.M.S.
It is twenty-five years since Mrs.'
Struthers, then Miss Margaret
Walks, accompanied. by her cousin,
Miss Margaret Brown, left for mis-
sion work in China. Miss Brown is
now ` engaged • in literary work in
China.
Mrs. Haugh, in behalf of the Aux-
ilary thanked Mrs. Struthers for her
most interesting address and the
meeting was brought to a close by
singing a hymn and repeating •the
Mizpah Benedieion. Lunch • was serv-
ed by members of the Auxilary,
Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Berry spent
Sunday in Toronto and were accomp-
anied by Mr. and Mrs. B. McKay,
who remained there. Mrs. McKay
will take treatment there and we
hope she may return much improved
in health.

The Brumfield firemen had their
second call in a short time when they
were called to the farm of Mr, Win.
Clarke, Varna, where the barn had
caught fire from e threshing mach-
ine. Although the barn was a total
loss they saved thehouse, drive shed
and hen house. We must congrat-
ulate the firemen on their splendid
showing and the very short time
they were in getting to the,yfire,

Missionary Society Meets •
The regular monthly, meeting of
the W. A, ' was held in the school
room f the church ch on Wednesday
last; with the President, Mrs.. R.
Townsend, ,presiding, Meeting open-
ed by singing a hymn, and prayer
by Mrs. Townsend, The scripture
reading was taken responsively. ()W-
ing to the illness of the secretary,
Mrs. H. Riley read the minutesof
last meeting. During the business
discussion it was decided to hold a
bazaar and tea in the last week of
October. Committees were appoint-
ed for the several booths. A quilt
was also quilted. The program in-
cluded singing by Velma and Douglas
Hesk, duet by Jean McNall and Betty
Brunsdon, and recitation by Douglas
Hesk, Meeting closed by singing a
Hymn and repeating the Mizpah
Benediction. Lunch was served by
Mrs. W. Bumbly, Mrs. W. Hunking,
Mrs. F. Longman; Mrs, H, Bunking,'
