On the farm of George Hallam
Was born a pig which has five legs,
Miss : Thelma McGuire received
quite a surprise yesterday when she
found a milk snake in a >box of
potatoes. The snake was about ten
inches long. Miss McGuire works' for
Mr. Clarence Dace. It is not known
how long the snake was in the pot-
atoes,

who landed one seventeen inches in

amination held in Clinton in June
under the Toronto Conservatory of
Music.
Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Gerneinhardt
who were visiting in Saginaw, return-
ed home with Mi. 'Norval Gemein-
hai'dt who visited his mother over
the week -end. Mrs. Norval Gement
hardt and three daughters accompan-
ied him on his return to Saginaw af-
ter having visited here for a fort-
night.

family of Detroit spent the week -end
with Mrs. Plater's parents, Mr, and
Mrs. W. J. McLeod. Mrs. C. Rob-
bins of Detroit who accompanied them
to the village remained to spend a

pendicitis in Scott Memorial Hosp-

speedy recovery.

On Sunday last a large congrega-
tion attended the church service and
enjoyed an instructive address deliv-
ered by the pastor, Rev. R. Wilding
The choir rendered an appropriate
anthem, the solo part being taken
very sweetly by Miss Alma Trewar-
tha. Miss Wilhelmiee Trowartha of
Toronto favoured the congregation
with one of her ever paeasing solos.
During. the Sunday 'School Session,
Mrs. Orville Rodges gave a very
splendid talk entitled, "The one that
went astray', the; history of the
author of the old familiar hymn,
"There were Ninety and Nine."

Inspect Experimental Plots
A. field meeting, under the direc-
tion of the Huron County branch of
the Ontario Department of Agricult-
ure, was held at the farm of James
Smillie, north of Hensel. The met-
ing was for the purpose of inspect
ing the variety and fertilizer test
plots on fall wheat which were laid
down on Mr. Smillie's farm last fall
in cooperation with the field hush-
andry and chemistry departments
of the Ontario agriculture -College,
Guelph. There were four varieties of
fall wheat under test, and as the sow-
ing of each was repeated three trines
there is a total of twelve plots. One-
half of each plot was fertilized and
those in attendance noted a marked'
difference in varieties, and in the
fertilized and unfertilized portions of
each plot. Two speakers from the
Agricultural College were present,
Professor A. W. Mason of the Field
Husbandry Department, discussed
varieties and culttual indthocls for fall
wheat production; Professor Henry 0,
Bell of the chemistry department,
spoke on the subject "The plant's
story of its deficiencies."
Falls Front Load of Hay
Alexander. Stirling, McKiIlop, met
with a serious accident Monday af-
ternoon when he fell from a load of
hay in W. Montgomery's yard in
Seaforth sustaining injuries to his
head and back. When found he was
unconscious and was taken to the
Scott Memorial Hospital.
During the first five months of
1938, the number of pedigree anim-
als with the Canadian National
Livestock Records, approved. by the
Dominion Minister of Agriculture,
totalled 29,441. The number incudes
1,685 horses; 14,889 cattle; 2,959
sheep; 1,840 swine; 4,498 foxes;
2,921 dogs; 627 poultry and 22 goats.
