October, and lived at Bryon 25 years.

and beloved by all,and her passing
will be a great loss to all. Mrs. Cas-
sidy leaves to mourn her loss her hus-
band, one daughter, 1VIrs. William Mc-
Knight of Nile; one son, Roy, of Ed-
monton, one son, Joseph, died about
seven months ago; five sisters, Mrs.
Jas, Carter of Auburn; Mrs. • Robt.
Mclllwain, Nile; Mrs. Joseph Cass
silly, Bryon; Mr. G. F. McPhee, Ply-
mouth, Mich., and Mrs. Frank Haw-
kins, of Toronto. One brother, Major
Isaac Hetherington, died 15 years
ago.

MR. FRANK BRUCE
The.Deople of this community were
shocked to hear of the death of Frank
Bruce of lot 23, con. 3, of West We-
wanosh, which occurred Saturday
inornieg, April "30th. The deceased
bad been in poor health for abo'nt a
year, but 'was about as wee, ,and
when his sister went to call hints Sat-
urday was shocked to find that he
had passed away. The deceased was
born on May 7th,. 1870, on the same
farm, where he had resided all his
life.. He was a son of the late Mr:
and Mre. Janes Bruce. He is surviv-
ed by one. sister, Margaret, who lived
with him; one brother, Richard. Two
sister's and three brothers predeceas-
ed him, one'brother »assin.g away on
'March lith, 1938. The funeral ser-
vice was held from his late residence
en Monday afternoon, and was con-
ducted by Rev. H. C. Wilson of Knoat'
United Church, Auburn. The pall-
bearers were Messrs, Samuel: John -
sten, : Jaines Jchnston, Harvey Reid,
'Leslie Hallam, David Hamilton, John
'Reid. Interment .took place in Dun -
'Tamen Cemetery+,
MILS. GEORGE CASSlDY
Mrs. Janes Carter received the sect
hews of the death of her sister, Mrs.
-George, Cassidy, of E'dpaotiton, Alta.
The deceased was formerly Margaret
:Hetherington, daiagliter of Mr. Joseph
'Hethef:ington, and Elizabeth Scott, and
'was born on the Hetherington farm
at Nile, 72 years ago, and attended

Powell was rushed to Goderich hospi=
tal for an emerdeney operation for
acute appendicitis. At time of writ-
ing she is resting comfortably. We
trust the operation will prove suc-
cessful.

Over one hundred guests gathered
at the home of Mr. Geo. Baird, on
Wednesday evening of last week, to
honor Mr. and Mrs. Walter Baird, wise
were the uecipients of many beautiful
and useful gifts at the reception and
'miscellaneous ' shower. A delicious
lunch was served by the ladies of the
community, after which card.playing.

JOHN S., MAIR
Death came very suddenly to John
Stewart Maii', Goderich Township
farmer, on Wednesday, April 27th, in
Clinton Public Hospital, from injuries
received on Monday evening when his
team, . which had been hitched to a
hay -loading machine, became unman-
ageable. In trying to control them he
fell and the wheel passed over him,
breaking his spinal column at the base
of the neck.
Mr. Mali was in his 54th year, and
wai•born in Goderich township on the
farm next his own, and was the se-
cond son of Mr. and Mr's. T. K. Mair,
Clinton,
In June, 1920, he ana'rried Flossie
J. Cole, who with one daughter, Bees
va, aged 13, survive. Titere also sur-
vive his parents; two brothers, Dr. W.
L. •and Dave, Detroit; two sisters,
Mrs. W. R. MacDonald (Jean); Kin-
tore, Ont., and Mrs: Rohe. Fairservice
(Myrtle) of Londesboro.
The funeral was held on Friday
frons the home, Maitland concession,
Goderich township, and •was largely
attended. Rev. A. W. Gardiner, Lon-
desboro,.and Rev, 0. Peddie, Clinton,
conducted` the services. Interment
was in Clinton cemetery.
The bereft family have the sincere
sympathy of the community in this
their sad hour of affliction in 'the
great loss of- a loving husband and
kind father.
