The president, Mrs. C. A. Howson, presid- ed, with Mrs. R. J. Philips at the pi- ano. Mrs. John Raithby led in the Lord's Prayer and Mrs. Elwin I01- - lough read the scripture. Mrs. Wm, Robertson and Mrs, G. W. Sherman led in a season of prayer. The secre- ' 'tery's report was given by Mrs. Earl Raithby, and Mrs. R. J. Philips gave the treasurer's repprt in the absence of Mrs. Glen Raithby. Final arrange- ments were made for the sacred con- cert to be held in the church on Good Friday. Readings were given. by Mrs. Thos. McNall and Mrs. Fred Ross, Mrs. Elmer McDougall and Mrs. R. J, Philips favored with a duet. The 'topic "An Easter Message", was given by Mrs. Annie Wolper. Mrs. E. Elkin closed the meeting with prayer, after which a dainty lunch was served. The W. M. S. of the United Church held their Easter Thankoffering in the church on Tuesday with the presi- dent in charge. The scripture lesson was read by Mrs. Jas. Woods. Mrs, B. C. Wilson gave a reading. Mrs. Chas. Straughan led in prayer. The devotional leaflet was read by Mrs. George Bean, followed by a chorus, by •-a number of ladies. Mrs. Albert 'Campbell of Donneybrook gave the Easter Message. Mrs, Fred Plaetzer favored with a solo. Heralds on tem- perance was given by Mrs, 0. E. Er- ratt. It' was decided to leave the date ' of the quilting to Mrs, Mogridge. It was decided to organize a C. G.'I. T. ,with Miss Dorothy Anderson as lead - This is open to all girls from 12 'to 16 years. The next meeting to be 'in charge of Miss M. King. St. John's Church will hold their lenten .service combined with the Un- ited Church services on Thursday evening in the United Church at 8 o'clock. Rev. Mr. Bugler will be the speaker. Mr. John Smith entertained a num- ber of his friends to a party on April 1st. The ladies of the W.A. enjoyed a very pleasant evening in Brucefield Friday night when they presented their Play, "Strictly Business'. A very dainty lunch was served by the Brucefield ladies and the evening. was much enjoyed by all. Mr. Mort. Elliott and Miss Lillian Elliott, in company with Mrs. Fred Heard, spent Thursday in London. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Pilgrim of For- rest spent the week -end at the home of Mr, C. C. Pilgrim. Mr, A. Robinson of Hespeler visited recently in our village,. Mrs. J. Watson of Val d'or, Quebec, spent a few days recently with her sister, Mrs. E. Mossop. Rev. Mr. Hunter of Exeter opened the week of services in the United Church on Monday evening. His mes- sage was very much enjoyed. Rev. Mrs, John Swan is confined to her bed with an attack of pleursy, but is improving nicely. Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Woods and Mrs. Robinson Woods spent a day with Mrs. Tom Campbell in Stanley. Miss Charlotte. Johnson accompanied them home. Mrs. R. J. Woods has returned from spending the winter with her daugh- ters in Fergus, Guelph and Galt. Mrs, Herbert Mogricige, Auburn, spent several days ,at the home of Mr, C. Manning recently. Mr. and Mrs. J. Morris of Hensall have moved into the house on Mr. C. Watson's farm, formerly occupied by Mr. and Mrs. C. Lucas, who have moved to Molesworth. Mr. Morris has taken a position with Mr. C. Wat- son. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Prest are very busy decorating houses in the village and comhnnnity. -- The Woman's Institute met in the Community Hall on March 31st, Mrs. E. Adams in the chair. Election of officers took place, most of the for- mer officers being re-elected, A good program was given and refreshments served by Mrs. M. Ross ,and her group. TUCKERSMITH Mr. Doig has re -rented the Ashton farm to Mr. A. Ryan of Egmondville. Mr. and Mrs. F. Townsend visited with the lady's sister in Hamilton last week. Mr. and Mrs. Quinn and small son of Toronto visited with Mr. and Mrs. E. Crich over the week -end. Special services are being held this' week in Turner's Church conducted by Rev. G. G. Burton. The many friends of Mrs. James .Black will be pleased to learn that. she is :able to be home after undergo-. ing an operation in: St. Marys hosp-' Lai, Kitchener.
