RED CROSS NOTES
Handkerchiefs for Britain
Owing to a recent pressing request
from England, for handserchiefe in
large quantities, we are having a
handkerchief .shower in the Board
Room on Saturday afternoon, ' Dec.
13th. They need handkerchiefs for
men, women and children and any
donations of same will be most grate-
fully accepted and sent forward im-
mediately.. .
Russian Relief
Don't forget the Canadian Red
Cross Society is asking the Canadian
people for a half million dollars to be
used for medical supplies and relief
for our allies the Russians. Every
dollar of this money will be spent in
Canada and helps must go forward
immediately to relieve the intense suf-

The meeting next week will be held
on Tuesday, December 16th, at 8
o'clock. As there is a lot of -work to
finish at this meeting please come

Christmas Tree This
Saturday ;
The Lions Annual Christmas tree
for the Children of Clinton and sur-
rounding district takee place this com-
ing Saturday, December 13th. Start-
ing with a big parade from the Public
School at 1.30 p.m, led by Santa Claus
and the Pipe Band and ending up at
the Town Hall where candy, etc. will
be distributed by Santa to the child
ren, the day will be finished out as
usual by a big free show at the Roxy
Theatre at 2 o'clock.

Pipe Band Attends Frolic
The Clinton Pipe Band played at the
Frol iein Stratford last Thursday ev-
ening, sponsored by the Stratford
Boys Band. Among the bands pres-
ent, and who paraded from the Boys
Band rooms to the Market Building,
where the (relic was held were from
Clinton,Seaforth,Tavistock, e
Clinton, a sok, Nw
Hamburg and Elmira. These bands
are members of the Huron -Perth Band
Zone. Milverton Red Seal Band is 1
also a member but was unable to at-
tend, due to the fact that most of its
bandsmen are. employed by a menu -
featuring company, who. are at pres-
ent working 24 hours a day.

Taxes. Being Collected
The Tax Collector, Mr. Norman
Kennedy, is now in' the town clerks'
office from 9 a.m. to 5 pan. daily, for•
the purpose of collecting taxes.

Engagement Announced
Mr. and Mrs. Howard H. Bowman,
Owen 'Sound, announce the engage-
ment of their eldest daughter, Marg-
aret Louise, to Mr. John Douglas
Middleton of the Royal Canadian Air
Force, Yarmouth, N.S., son of Mr. J.
R. Middleton, God'erioh Township.
The inarriage is to take place quietly
this month,

Hockey Teams Entered
The Clinton Lions Club have enter-
ed a Juvenile and Bantam team in the
Minor Hockey League.
The only ehange in the M.H.L. rules
this year is that all groups must fin-
ish their games by Feb. 20th, 1942.
For the information of the surroun-
ding towns the last date of entry in
the M.H.L. is Dec. 21st, 1941. Those
who had not entered a team last year
are not being notified this year. •
FRIENDS HONOR CLINTON
WOMAN ON ENLISTMENT
Friends and neighbors of Mrs-.
Clarence Neilans, the former Ethel
Cooke, who has enlisted for service
with the Canadian Women's Army
Corps, took advantage of her week-
end leave td surprise her by a
gathering at the home of her parents,
Mr. and Mrs, 0. V. Cooke, The even-
ing was spent in playing progressive
euchre. Mrs. Neilans was honored by
an address in which her patriotism
was extolled. Mrs, Neilans was pres-
ented with a handsome wilting set
and blue wool pyjamas. The address
was read by Mrs.. W. Shobrook and
the recipient made a fitting acknow-
ledgement. Afterwards a dainty lun-
ch was served. Mrs. Neilans is now
stationed at Kitchener.
Ontario St. W.A.
The Women's Association of Ontar-
io street church met on Wednesday
afternoon for election of officers and
other business, Mrs. Radford presi-
ded and Mrs. Hawke conducted the
devotional period. Excellent reports
were given by convenors of the differ-
ent committees. Arrangements were
made for serving when the Presbytery
of Huron met in the church on Dee.
9th. It was also decided to sench sun-
shine boxes to the shut-ine at Christ-
nay.

the evening will be: "The Gateway
Into the Kingdom" or "The Words

Intermediates Organized
There was a good attendance of en-
thusiasts at the Intermediate Hock-
ey meeting held in the - Fireman's
Hall last night, at which, Mr. Youug
of Goderich convenor of the group,
was present. Clinton already has nine
players, and they intend to use about
two from the nearby Radio School.
In the group so far are Waterloo,
Seaforth, Goderich and Clinton. El-
mira and Milverton were also to be in
the "Jr group, but Elmira has trans-
ferred to Paris and Milverton will
play Intermediate "A.", and use some
Stratford players.
There will be a meeting in Stratford
this Friday evening when the schedule
will be drawn up.
Presbytery Of Huron Meets,

The Presbytery of Huron of the
Presbyterian church held their reg-
ular meeting in the Clinton church on
Tuesday morning and afternoon. Rev.
Wm. Weir of Hensail, the moderator,
was in the chair and Rev. B. F. An-
drew
ndrew of Clinton, clerk, recorded; pro-
ceedings. There was a good atten-
dance of both laymen and ministers,
Rev. Weir reported for the; Presby-
tery's conunittee n Sunday School
and Young Peoples Societies to the
effect that the six weeks Teacher's
Training Course proved, in many
ways, profitable and popular.
- A letter was received from Maitland
Presbytery proposing that a commit-
tee of three be chosen to meet with a
similar committee of Maitland Presby-
tery to discuss the questiolr, "Amal-
gamation of the two Presbyteries:?"
The Huron Presbytery's committee,
Rev. W. Weir, Hugh Jack and Mr.
Robert Shortreed. Other matters of
routine business were discussed.

A. splendid variety show was
ented in the new tlteatt-
Radio School R.A.F., Clinton ,last
Thursday evening, Dec, 4th,
The presentation included several
fine solos both vocal and instrumein
tal, monologues and comedy skits by
members of the School, and sleight of
hand tricks by one of the instructors.
Interspersed° between numbers were
several selections by the recently or-
ganized orchestra by the School.
Assistin;, g• artists sty were Mrs, Saun-
ders and little Miss Anne Freer of
Goderich, Mrs, Geo, MeLay of Clin-
ton, and Miss Hope Worth of the
"Originals." All the numbers presen-
ted by these artists were fully enjoyed
by the huge audience which packed
the theatre.

Toronto for the year 1942. Mr. Me-
Quarrie is a native of Brussels, Ont
ario, and has been a resident of Tor-
onto for the last 26 years, He is well
known as the Secretary -Manager of
the Association of Canadian Advertis-
ers, Inc,

The Women's Association of Wes-
ley Wilily United ehurch met Wed-
nesday afternoon for election of of-
ficers. This December meeting also
took the form of a Christmas party,
The president, Mrs, E. Paterson, was
in the chair and Mrs. A. T. Cooper at
the piano. The scripture was read
by Mrs, E: Saville and prayer offered
by Mrs, A. Lane. A. reading was giv-
en by Mrs. McKinley and a recitation
by Mrs. R. M. Sperling,
A donation of $25 was voted for the
purchase of Rnssiaa hospital supplies,
Upward of 100 persons were served
at the 25 cent supper.
