'Many friends and neighbors called on Mr. John McKnight Friday even- ing to congratulate hint on his 72nd birthday. Mr, McKnight who suffer- ed a broken leg about three weeks • ago when he fell off the roof of a school he was shingling, is still eon - fined to bed. In the evening the one-rn- berg of his family met, and a pleasant everting was spent, Friends were present from Clinton, Goderich and - Auburn. 'Anniversary services will be held in the Baptist church on Sunday, Sept. 14th, at 3 p,nn. and 7.30 p.m., Rev. William Raithby of Strathroy will be guest speaker, Musk will be rup- plied by the choir, and Mr. Zurbrigg of Listowel will be guest soloist. The Sept. meeting of the Women's Institute will be held in the Foresters• Hall on Tuesday, Sept. 11th, at 2.30. "This is Grandmother's Day and the following grandmothers are in charge of the program : Mrs. Mogridge, Mrs. -Win. Anderson, Mrs. Geo. Sturdy and .Mrs. J. J. Robertson, The roll call to 1* answered by the grandmothers, Where were you married and by whom." Hostesses, Mrs, John Cowan, Mrs. Gordon Taylor, Mrs. Woods, Mrs. Bean, and Mrs. Lawson. A' large crowd attended the Harvest iionte Services in St. Mark's Anglican church on Sunday afternoon. The church was beautifully decorated with baskets of flowers and fruit and veg- etables. Rev. G. W. Moore of Clinton, was guest speaker and delivered a .forceful sermon on Thanksgiving. -Miss Betty Asgbuith presided at the =:organ. Mrs. R. M. Weeks and Miss .-Alice Rogerson favored with a duet. guest the first part of last week. Dr. and Mrs. N. B. Alexander have returned to their home in London af- ter having spent the Summer Season at their cottage in the village. Dr. W. T. Mustard of Toronto end Lieut. Miss Jean Dunn left this week to take a position in Lonclon. Miss Vera Pease went to London last week with her father where she has taken a position. Dr. and Mrs. J, Duffy and little daughter Ellen of London were the guest of Mr. and Mrs. V. C. Quarry on Sunday. Mrs. E. A. Featherson visited in Toronto last week. Mrs, E. N. Hart of London is at her cottage in the village. Mr. and Mrs. F. V. Granger and family of London were at their cot- tage over the weekend. Mrs. A. S. Atkinson spent last week at her home in Detroit, Mr. and Mrs. E. Boner• and 'family of Waterloo were at their cottage ov er the weekend. Amongst those who attended the funeral of the late James Reid on Thursday last were: J. T. Reid, Mrs. McNaughton, Mrs. McNevin of Lon- don; Mr. Robinson Woods; Mt•, Lorne Woods, and Mrs. Sarah Woods of St. Helens, Ont. The Red Cross Society will meet in the Orange Hall, on Friday, Sept.12th; at 3 p.m.. A. good attendance is re. quested. Mr, and Mrs. Grant Turner who have spent some time in Nova Scotia returned to their home here Iast week. Mr. C. R. Wills, who spent_ the Summer Season at her cottage here, was called home to London last week, owing to the .illness of her husband and daughter, she was accompanied by her sister Mrs. Waters of Windsor who had spent the summer with her. The Septemeber meeting, of the Stanley Community Club was held at MISS, DOROTHY DEITZ Miss Dorothy Deitz a graduate of Clinton Collegiate Institute, and who has been a student in the Secretarial Course at Westervelt School'. during the past year, has accepted a position in the London office of W. E. Saund- ers, Limited the home, of Mrs. Cliff `Stewart with the preseident in the chair. Twenty- five members, three viistors and nine children were present. The roll call was answered by a proverb. The meeting opened with the Lord's Pray- er and O Canada. The secretary and treasurer reports were given. It was moved by Miss Gilmore and seconded. by Mrs. John MacGregor that they buy three blankets with some of the money on hand. It was also decided to have a baby shower for the babies in Northern Ontario at the next meet. ing, Mrs. Innes gave a splendid knit- ting report and the packers report was good also. Lieut Deadman of the Salvation Alrmy spoke briefly commending the ladies on their good work. Mrs. Eddy Glenn had a ,cushion on display on which tickets were sold and the North Group have a comfor- ter on display in town on which they are selling tickets. The Community Ciub are holding a Homemade Baking Sale in the Ex- press office, Clinton, on Saturday af- ternoon, Sept, 13th; beginning at 2.30 o'clock, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Taylor attend- ed the funeral of the lady's aunt, the late Mrs, Eliza Metcalf of London, last Friday, My. and Mrs. Goldie Grahham and Mr, John McCowan visited friends in Hamilton for a few days last week. CONSTANCE Miss Elva Snell of Londesboro spent the weekend at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ern Adams. Mrr and Mrs. John E. Busby and Miss Shirley of Chatham and Miss Doris Lawson of London spent the weekend with relatives here, also at- tended the Decoration Services at the Clinton Cemetery on Sunday. Mrs. Relit, Lawson returned }tome on Sunday after spending a week with Mr. anti Mrs. Roy Lawson and Mr. and Mrs, John Davidson. Mr. and Mis. John Ferguson spent Sunday visiting relatives at Blyth.
