An impressive Mothers' :say ser- vice, -was held on Sunday. morning in the United church with the Sunday School attending in ;a body and occup- ied the centre seats. The front of -the church looked attractive in a set- ting of spring flowers. - Mr. C Stew - .the Supt. and the pastor, Rev. Menzies took charge. The choir of mothers led in the service pf song and also sang two very appropriate numbers in the keeping of mothers' day. Two young children were pres- ented for 'baptizement, Margaret Is - ober daughter of Mr. and Vire, Jos- eph Lyon and James Dennis, infant son of Mr. and, Mrs. Ivan Carter. Mrs. Frank Tanrbly gave the story, "The Quest". Rev. Menzies spoke on the "Influence of a good mother," which had many beautiful thoughts inter- woven. The service throughout was a propriate and many helpful and comforting thoughts could be carried hone, for the uplifting of character and better lives, four mothers took up the offering. The church was filled itl•honor of mothers. The Easter thanlcoffering meeting was held in con.juetion with the reg- ular monthlymeeting of the W.M.S. on Thursday, May 8th, with a good attendance. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd, Scotehmer were surprised on Friday evening last when fifty-three friends from the Bronson Line (where Mr. Scochntter formerly lived), the Sauble Line, Bayfield and vicinity gathered at their horse and presented them with a beautifully up- holstered •occasional chair. An add- ress was read by Mise Jeanne Dunn and the presentation trade by Bert Dunn, Jr.. and John Mason. Although taken completely by surprise, Mr. Seotcltmer expressed the appreciation and thanks of his wife and himself in .a very able manner. A. very happy social evening was spent by all. The refreshments were served by the ladies, Mr, and Mrs. Charles Playter and family returned to Detroit on Satur- day after having spent a couple of days with. Mrs. Playter's mother, Mrs. W. J. McLeod. Mrs. Claude Robbins and little slaughter of Detroit who carie with then remained with her mother, while Mrs. T. Crane who had been visiting her returned to Detroit. Mrs. F.
