Lesson: Luke 15:1-10;
G.T. Luke 19:10
by REV. GORDON PEDDIE, B.A.
1. How is this lesson related to the
lesson in the previous chapter?
Answer: By the fact that the Pham-
isees and the scribes, putting their
trust in their own; morality and re-
ligious works, were fillecl with pride
and became angry at Jesus because
He talked and ate with tax -gather-
ers and ungodly amen who were lost
and in need of a Saviour (14:11, 13,
21.)
2. Is this whole 15th chapter of
Luke one complete unity?
Answer: Yee;three parables are
told by Jesus, the lost sheep, the lost
coin, and the lost son; and all three
are given in answer to the proud pro-
test of the Pharisees and scribes in
verse 2.
3, Are the lost sheep and the lost
coin the most central and most im-
portant figures in the two parables
in today's lesson?
Answer Since Jesus tells the pau-
ables to the Pharisees and scribes in
order to explain to them HIS conduct
hi seeking the lost, the central fig-
ures are those of the shepherd and
the Woman whose search and joy is
described fully in each case. And
this is the central` fact of the whole
Bible; that it describes GOD'S ac-
tion, HIS seeking and saving His lost
and sinful people.
4. Are we to conclude that the
ninety-nine sheep and the nine coins
are NOT lost (or not in need of the
Saviour) because the search is just
for the one?
• Answer: NO! The sheep, and the
eons are "safe" only insofar as they
put their "trust" in the shepherd and
r= the woman; only insofar as they d6
_+ not proudly trust in themselves and
.tt+` wander away. Even though the'
+;: ninety-nine sheep and the nine coins
