Bogie's• Beach.Returns to the
Writer, a Young Stratford Girl
•
A "bottled ` message" tossedinto
;the waters of Lake Huron last June
15 by a Stratford grl came back to
her the other day through the .nail,
as part of a birthday greeting from
:"A Seaman of the Old School."
Beverley Anderson, daughter of,
Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Anderson, 72
',Avon street, found an old bottle at
Bogie's Beach, north of Goderich,
last summer. She wrote a message on
a piece of paper, put the message in
the bottle and then threw the bottle
into the water; The message was
picked up near Goderich some days
later and today it came back to her
accompanied by a birthday card. She
was thirteen years old on Sunday.
In the message Beverley wrote that
she was not shipwrecked, but was
fust writing for something• to do. The
'Seaman of the Old School," who
returned her message, said he was
glad to hear she was not shipwrecked,
because it was a harrowing exper-
ience. He had been nearly shipwreck-
ed once while on a voyage as a men
bet of the _ crew of

The finder of the note said in his
letter to young Miss Anderson that
he picked up her message at latitude
33 degrees, 45 minutes north, and
longitude, 81 degrees, 45 minutes
west. That bearing is in the vicinity
of Goderich,
The "Seaman" told of being g almost

Africa.
(While the name of the "Seaman
of the Old School" was not signed to
the note, it is believed AId. A. M.
Davis of Stratford might know some-
thing about it. Aid. Davis was once
a member of the crew of the Howard
D. Troop and he spends a consider-
able amount of time at Bogie's ,Beach
and :in Goderich vicinity during the
Summer months. Ald. Davis, when
questioned, didn't deny he was the
writer.)

THURS., JAN, 2, 1941
Our appreciation of a pleasant
relationship finds expression at
this season in the wish that you
may have a prosperous contented
New Year.
It is impossible to hope that
the coming New Year will be a
time of "peace on earth" but it
will at least be one of "good will
t'ward men" of our own and
allied countries.
"I said to the man who stood
at the gate of the year:
"Give me . a light that I may
tried safely into the unknown."
And he replied:
"Go out into the darkness and
put your hand into the hand of
God. That shall be to you better
than light and safer than the
known way."
(Quoted by His Majesty, the King,
in an Empire Broadcast).
