Miss Marion Taylor, daughter of
Mr, and Mrs. Gordon Taylor had her
tensile removed at Goderich on Mon-
day.
Anniversary services were largely
attended in Knox Presbyterian church
OA Sunday. The guest speaker, Rev.
Samuel Kern preached two inspiring
sermons. His morning subject was
"Fighting the Good 'Fight", and his
evening discourse was based on the
theme "Three Views of the Cross,"
At the morning service, the choir
sang two anthems, and Miss Jose-
ihine Weir favoured with a solo. At
the evening service the Hensall ladies
quartette composed of Mrs. W. A.
McLaren, Mrs. Dougall, Misses Irene
Hoggarth and Jean Workman, sang
two numbers and Mrs. J. W. Bonth-
ron, of Hensall rendered a solo.
The Baptist church held their an-
nual meeting on Friday night. A pot-
luck supper was served after which
the business was discussed. Rev, A.
H. Silver presided and favourable re-
ports were heard. The following of-
ficers were elected: Church clerk,
Glenn .Raithby; secretary -treasurer,
Frank Raithby; organist, Mrs, R. J.
Phillips; Choir leader, Mrs. C, A.

The W.M,S, of ICnox United Church
met Monday at the home of Mrs.
Chas. Straughan, with Mrs. James
Jackson in charge. The Lord's pray-
er was repeated ie unison, after
which Mrs. John Thompson read the
Scripture. Mrs. Haa°ry Yungblut
read articles on Miss Shipley of Hon -
an, China, and on Rev. W. B. Djanj.
Mrs, Fred Pleetzee sang a solo, Mrs.
Ernest Patterson gave a paper on
Temperance and Mrs. Earl Wight -
man gave a paper on Stewardship.
Mrs. Wightnan gave a report on the
Sectional Meeting held at Remitter
recently. Mrs. James Woods presid-
ed for the business period. It was
decided to have each member write
Hon James Gardiner of Ottawa, and
urge him to have all beverage rooms
closed. The following nominating
committee was appointed: Miss
Margaret King, Mrs. Joe Washing-
ton and Mrs. Herb Mogridge. Mrs.
Woods closed the meeting with pray-
er, after which lunch was served.
Mr. Thomas Hallam held a very
successful sale of farm stock, etc. at
his farm on Wednesday, Cattle sold
around $75 and at team of horses
brought $206, Thomas Gundry of
Goderich was auctioneer, Mr. Hallam
purposes to continue living on the
farm.
A reception was held in the For-
ester's Hall on, Friday night in honor
of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth McDougall,
newly-weds (tee Marjorie To11).
Dancing was enjoyed to music sup-
plied by Raymond Redmond, itIr. and
Mrs. Gordon McOlinohey, Harvey Mc-
Dowell and Ila Craig and Jean Me -
Dowell. After lunch the young couple

SCHOLARSHIP IS AWARDED
AFTER DEATH OF STUDENT .
Advice has been received from the
Department of Education by Mr. and
Mrs. Wren Sheardown, of Goderich,
that their son, the late Donald Shear -
down, who died suddenly few weeks
ago, when stricken by a heart attack
whiib threshing, has been awarded
the second Carter Scholarship, valu-
ed at $60, for Huron County. •
Donald was 18 years old and a
brilliant 'Student.
Another :student of Goderich Col-
legiate, Annetta Stewart, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Stewart of Dun-
gannon, -won the First Carter Schol-
arship with a value of $100.
Fraser Thompson of Clinton Col-
legiate won the third, valued at $40.
