Lawson read the following address:
DEAR ELMA AND WILBUR—
We had heard a lot of different
stories about what would happen in
the fall, but what we read in the
paper a few weeks ago,
Was the latest news of all,
Of course we do not blame you,
For your mother did the same.
It's twenty-seven years next April,
since she changed her maiden
name,
For in the year of 1913 the wedding
fever grew
And a lot of Hullett's "best boys and
girls," got married that year too.
So here we are in '40,
The fever is here once more,
And boys and girls are getting wed,
Who were never wed before.
served by Mrs. Irvine Tebbutt and If any, this slip shall rise,
Mrs. W. Biggin. We hope that you and Wilbur
Don't happen to be the two.
Your friends and neighbors had plan-
ned together
To take you by surprise,
And buy some useful gifts
Which they thought you might prize.
So instead of going west, near
Kincaid,
We are glad you have stayed
And your home among us made,
We know will be repaid.
—Signed on behalf of your neighbors
and friends, Mr. Jewitt gave a vett'
suitable reply and after singing "For
they are jolly good fellows," dancing
continued until wee sma' hours of the
morning. The gathering closed by
singing God Save the King.
