BAYFIELD
Induction of Rev. Harold Currie
On Thursday evening, June 27th,
a large gathering assembled in St.
Andrew's Church, Bayfield, to wit-
ness the induction of Rey. Harold
Currie as pastor of that congrega-
tion and of the congregation of Grace.
Church, Porter's Hill. Rev. Andrew
Lane of Wesley -Willis United church,
Clinton, presided at the service. Af
ter the singing of the hymn, "The
Church's One Fountain is Jesus
Christ, our Lord," Mr. Lane addres-
sed the congregations on the, theme,
"The Church of Christ." He stressed
the absolute dependence of the chureh
on Jesus Christ. As the branch can-
not bear fruit of . itself, except it
abide in the vine, no more can the
church on earth, without the presence
of Jesus Christ. As the human body.
is dead without the spirit of life,
so the church is dead without Jesus.
Christ is the head of the church. He
loved it and gave Himself for it,
that he might sanctify and cleanse it
with the washing of water by the
word. That He might present it to
Himself a glorious church, not hav-
ing spot or wrinkle or any such
thing; but that it should be holy and
without blemish.
Fellowship and -perfect harmony
should characterize church members,
such harmony or articulation as ex-
ists in the human body, where if one
member stiffer all the members stif-
fer with it; or if one member be
honoured, all 'the members rejoice
with it. The church is the body of
Christ, Mr. Currie was the inducted
into the pastorate of these two:con-
gregations according to the beauti-
ful ceremony used in the United
Church of Canada.
Rev. M. Peters of Varna addres-
sed the new minister, giving hien
wise counsel from his own exper-
ience as a pastor. He urged him not
to confine his interest to just his own
pastorate but to remember that be-
lievers everywhere were fellow mem-
bers of Christ's church; the whole
world is Christ's parish, Me. Peters
emphasized that sympathy in afflic-
tion was a duty and opened the way
to the hearts of many people.
Mr, Lane then, on behalf of Iltuon
Presbytery, welcomed the young
minister to his first appointment as
an ordained minister. Then leaving
the pulpit, he directed Mr. Currie to
it, where he begins, what we hope
may prove, a very fruitful ministry.
Mr. Currie pronounced the benedic-
tion. Then the congregations ac-
cepted Mr. Colin Campbell's invita-
tion to adjourn to the School Roost
of the church where an hour of social
intercourse was spent, refreshments
served, and all had an opportunity
of becoming acquainted with Mr.
Currie,
