Mr. and Mrs. Walter Moore of Kit- chener spent the weekend with Mrs. Moore's brother, Mr. Edgar Lawson, and Mrs. Lawson. Mr, and Mrs. Gordon Taylor spent the 24th in Detroit. Rev. H. C, Wilson is attending Conference in the Centennial United Church, London. The sympathy of the community goes out to Mr. Ephraim Ball, Mrs. George Sturdy and Mrs. James Raithby in the death of their broth- er, Mr, Nelson BaII of Clinton. Mr. and Mrs. John Ymigblut, Madeline and Carl spent Sunday with Mr, and Mrs. Percy Yungblut of Oakland. Dr. B. C. Weir, Jack and Josephine ` visited on Friday with Misses' Weir, of Strathroy. • Miss Violet Sharp spent the week- end with Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Wil- wwwil son, of Carlow. There_ will be no service in Knox United Church next Sunday as it is Conference Sunday. Commencing with next Sunday, the service in St, Mark's Anglican Church will be held at '7.30 p.m. This 'will remain throughout the month of June. Mrs. James Howitt returned last week after 'visiting Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Chesney of Seaforth, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Johnston and Miss Laura Phillips spent. Monday at London, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Nott and Ger- aldine of: Stratford visited with 1Ir. and Mrs. W. T. Robison on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Gormley Thompson of North Bay are spending holidays with friends here. Miss Margaret Ferguson of Parkhill spent the weekend at the home of her parents, Mr., and Mrs. A. .T. Ferguson. Misses Beryl Wilson of Seaforth and Dorothy Wilson of Shepparston spent the weekend with their par- ents, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Wilson, Mr. A; J. Ferguson. is unloading a car of coal this week. THOMAS JOHNSON On Mondaythe t e death occurred in Hamilton General Hospital of Eliza. both Coli widow of the'late Thomas Johnson, in her 84th Year. Mrs. John- son died from injuries received in a ear accident near that city Sunday evening in. which she received a broken hipand ankle a n e a nd concussion: .A, resident of Clinton for eighteen years, ilIrs Johnson had lately made her home 'with a son, J. L. Johnson' at Chippawa, and with her son and grand -daughter, Betty, had spent the holiday weekend here with her son, W. L. Johnson and .family. They had attended service . et St. Paul's Church on Sunday morning, . leaving later for home. Whenabout two miles from Hamilton an American owned : car collided head on with the Johnson car,. injuring all occupants who' wererushed; to hospital. A, daughter of the Iate Charles\ Cole and Elizabeth •Churchill, Mrs. Johnson was born in Goderich town- ship ownship' in October, 1856. In 1881 she was united; in marriage to Thomas Johnson, who predeceased her in 1912. Surviving are two sons, W. L. Johnson "'of town; J. L. Johnson, principal of Chippewa Public School, and four grandchildren: Miss Betty, Chippewa;., Charles and Leonard of town, and iIrs. Charles Dale of the Huron Road. Also surviving is a sister; Margaret Cole of Wayne, Michigan. The funeral service will be held, at St. Paul's Church this afternoon (Thursday) commencing at 2 o'clock. Interment will be made in Clinton Cemetery. , • NELSON BALL In the passing of Nelson Ball, who died suddenly at his home on Friday last, Clinton and community has lost a- man who by his quiet, kindly dis- position made many friends. News of his passing was received with genuine regret. A son of the late William Ball and Ann Gorbutt he was born on the Base Line, Hullett, on March 17th, 1875. He recoived his education ins the township' public school and then attended Clinton Collegiate. Later he received the degree of Veterinary Surgeon from the Toronto Veterin- ary College. After graduation he practised in Montana for three years and then came to Clinton where he practised -with the late Dr. Blackall. Thirty-five years ago he went into the furniture and undertaking' busi- ness here, in partnership with the lake J. B. Hoover. The partnership later included D. J. Atkinson and J. 3. Zapfe and' they took over the Harland Bros. hardware stock. For the past fifteen years the firm name has been Ball & Zapfe, Mr. Atkinson• having retired. In the undertaking profession Mr. Ball was acknowledged a specialist, He possessed rare tact and ebility, conducting his work with ,such quiet dignity that his presence in a hone endeared him to those he was called Upon to serve. His death is not only a loss to the community, but to the profession he represented. Outside of business he was also highly thought of. He was a past master of Clinton Lodge, A.F. & A.M., and for twenty years was director of ceremonies for the lodge. He was also a member of Clinton Lodge, I.O.O.F. No. 83, and of Murphy L,O.L. No. 710. Beside his wife, formerly Mary Dowser, he is survived by three Sons: Harry Dowser Ball, Kirkland Lake; Douglas G. of Toronto; William N., of Clinton;; also three daughters, Mrs. J. R. Carhart, Kirkland Lake; Miss Ruth, at home, and Miss Clara, graduate nurse, London. One brother and three sisters also survive. They are: Ephriam Ball of Auburn; Mrs. Charles Lovett, Clinton, ribs. Janes Raithby and Mrs, George Sturdy of Auburn. . The funeral, under auspices of Clinton Lodge, A.F. & A.M, was held at Ontario Street United Church on Monday afternoon, Rev. G. G. Burton conducting the service, assisted by Rev. K. McGoun, former rector of St. Paul's Church. In tribute to his memory, business associates closed their stores while the service was in progress that they might attend the funeral. The spacious church was filled to capacity with friends from town and country and frons other centres. The church burial service at the graveside was followed by the Masonic funeral rites, conducted by George H. Jefferson. The honorary pallbearers were Dr, J. W. Shaw, Dr. J. S. Evans, Col. H. T. Ranee, A. 3. Morrish, Fred Muteh and James Raymond. The active pallbearers were H. C. Lawson, G. H. Jefferson, A. E. Fines, A. M. Knight, H. M. Monteith and Nelson Hill. Interment was made in Clinton cemetery. ANDREW .JAMIESON The funeral service for Andrew Jamieson who died suddenly on Wed- nesday May 22 was held at the fam- ily residende on Friday afternoon. Mr. Jamieson was in Ms 80th year. DEATHS JOHNSON - In Hamilton General Hospital, on Monday, May 27th, Elizabeth Cole, widow of Thomas Johnson, in her 84811 year. BALL -In Clinton, on Friday, May 24th, Nelson Ball, in his 66th year. and leaves an only son, Raymond, with whom he lived, and one ,grand- son. He was Liberal in politics and a member of the United Church. The funeral service was conducted by Rev, 0, G. Burton, pastor of On- tario Street United Church, and in - torment in Clinton Cemetery follow- ed. The pallbearers were near neigh- bors of the departed man, Malcolm McD'ermid, Noble holland, William BaII, Frank Glen, John Dale and James Jamieson, PORTER'S HILL Mr, Herb Cox was taken to God- erich hospital Sunday. • He has been. ill for some weeks and it was thought best to remove hien to the hospital for treatment. We hope to see him soon restored to health again. Miss Evelyn Cox and friend, Miss Irbe Woods and friend, all of Lon- don, were here for the service and a visit with parents. HOLMESVILLE Mr. and Mrs. E.. Grigg Jr., Misses Ilia and Dawn, and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Potter visited the weekend at Niagara. Mr. and Mrs. Dorland Glazier of Toronto spent the holiday and week- end at the home of Mr. and Mrs, George Mair and other relatives. Mr. Chester Grigg of Toronto spent the holiday at the home of his father, rift. and Mrs. Reuben Grigg, Miss Mabel Grigg was at home for the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Grigg Sr. Mrs. T. J. Webster of Seaforth and son Earl of Markham visited on Saturday with the latter's brother, Mr. and Mrs. John Dempsey. Mr, and Mrs. Charlie Sitaddick and daughter Bernice of Hyde Park visit- ed with Mr.. and Mrs. Will Potter, Miss Alma Trewartha of Stratford Normal .spent the holiday at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Trewartha. A very pleasing event took place at the ]tome of Mr, and Mrs. Eimer Potter on Monday evening when they entertained a number of their friends to a six o'clock dinner, the main item of interest in the evening's program was the baptising of their baby son (Kenneth Elmer) by the Rev. J. W. Herbert, who accompanied by Mrs. Herbert came up from Dresden for this occasion. Mr. and Mrs. Everett Lowery and daughter Irene, of Oshawa, spent the weekend at the home of his aunts', the Misses Proctor and other rela- tives. Miss Reta Oudmore at her home here from Kincardine. Mr. and Mrs. N. W. Trewartha df Clinton moved out to their summer home on Tuesday. The Red Cross meeting on Wed- nesday at the home of Miss Acheson.
