Mr. and Mrs. Charles Asquith were at Kingston on Friday attending the convocation exercises, when their eld-. est son, Reginald, graduated from Queen's University as a .mechanical engineer with B,Se, degree. A. farewell presentation was held M the Foresters Hall on Wednesday evening last for Charles' Beadle Jt•. Mr. Beadle who has operated: the Auburn House for several years has given it up and acception a position at Grand Bend. He was presented with a Burse of money by Maitland Allen. Mr. William Watson of Nile in. a few well chosen words expressed the regret felt by all on learning of Charlie's decision to leave Auburn, Charlie fittingly replied and thanked all for their gift. The music for the dancing was supplied by Gordon McClinchey, Harvey McDowell, John Daer with Mrs. William Haggitt, Mrs. John Deer and Miss Ila Craig accompanists. Mr. and 'Mrs, John Slater and -laughter Marion, Mr. John Finlay- son: and Mr. and Mrs. L. Hemberger and daughter Margaret, all of. Sea - forth, visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Lawson. The Foresters Hall was filled to - capacity on Friday night when Rev, R. M. Weekes showed motion pic- tures of the Royal Tour. Between films Miss Betty Asquith played a piano instrumental, Mrs. Gordon Taylor sang a solo, and Misses Marg= aret and Mary Nesbit sang a duet. Mr. and Mrs. Chas, Scott were presented with a• purse of money by their neighbours of East Wawanosh. BAYFIELD The Music Festival held in the Town Hall on Wednesday, May 15, by the schools of No, 6, '7 and 8 of Stanley township and. No. 8 and 10 Goderich .township was of a very high order and much enjoyed by the large audience, Great vocal talent. was displayed •under the direction of the music teachers, Mrs. tBoyes and Mr. Gill, and credit goes to the Public School teachers, Misses .Mc - Math, Hellyar, Kirk and Henderson and Messrs Beatty and McGinnis, for the histronic ability portrayed in the little plays, and dances. The pro- gramme opened with mass singing of "0 Canada". Mr. 3. Pease acting as chairman. Highlights of the pro- gramme were: "Red Cross Play" by the pupils of the senior room of Bayfield Public School; "Highland Fling" by four pupils of No. '7 Stan- ley; "Maypole Dance" by No. 10 Goderich township; a playlet, "Clev- er Gretchen" by No. 8 Goderich township; "In an Old Dutch Gar- den" by No. 6 Stanley township. Mr. and Mrs. T. Mallett and fam- ily of London were: guests on Sun- day of Mrs, J. Davison. Miss :G. Bronson of Ottawa is the guest of Miss Betty Gairdner this week, Mrs. C. Brandon returned to her home 'here on Sunday after visiting her son, Mr. Thos. Brandon and Mrs. Brandon in Waterloo for the past` three months. Mr. 3. Apfeibeck has moved • into the Fraser house on Main St. which he has recently] purchased. ' J. H. Reid will continue to occupy. the store and Mr. Apfelbeck will conduct his bakery business in the residence. Mr. Ewart Gale of Marmora came last week to be with Inc parents, Rev. and Mrs. R. Gale. Members of the Women's Auxiliary of the churches of St. John's, Varna, St. James', Middleton and Trinity, Bayfield gathered in the latter church on Friday afternoon for a united service. Mfrs, J. Graham pre- sided and spoke on a few of the highlights 'of the Annual Diocesan meeting. Mrs. W. Colclough, the delegate to the Annual Meeting frons St. James' Branch, gave a very com- prehensive and interesting report of the opening service and sessions, Miss Lucy Woods sang "If I Could But Tell All the Glory." Weekes On Thursday morning, May 9th, the death of Mrs. Frank Weekes, carte as a shock to the community. Mrs. Weekes had suffered from high blood pressure for some time, and was not considered more serious than usual. She attended dearth service on Sunday night and on Wednesday morning received word that her little grand -nephew, ' Robbie Woods of Listowel, had been seriously burned while playing around a bon -fire. She worried a great deal about it, but retired at the usual hour, and at 3 o'clock a.m. she complained of a severe pain around her heart. Mt. Weekes iniieediately gat her a stim- ulant and she thought she would fall asleep, but evidently she suffer- ed a heart attack as she was in the same position as when Mr. Weekes last ' spoke to her. At six o'clock when he spoke to her he was shock - eel to find life was gone. Mrs. Weekes before marriage was Rachel spent the weekend with the latter "s Beatty, daughter of the late Mr. and parents, Mr, and Mrs. W. Jowett. Mrs. Geo. Beatty and was born. on Dr, and Mrs. C, J.
