Mr. Roy Webster has taken a
position in a ' bagber shop at One -
more.
The G.G.I.T. met in Knox United
Church on Friday evening with Helen
Marsh in charge. The Scripture' was
read by Margaret Wightinan and
Betty Craig led in prayer. Joan Shep-:
pard read the minutes of the previous
meeting. June Marsh gave a reading.
on "Smiling." Vivan Straughan,fav-
oared with a piano instrumental. Zeta
Munro read the 5th chapter of the
Study Book. Eileen McClinehey, Viv-
ian Straughan and Ruth Wilson were.
appointed to paaepare the program for
the next meeting. After a quiz con-
ducted'by Ruth Arthur and Ila Craig
the meeting was closed.
The W.M.S. of Knax Presbyterian
church held a gathering in the church
basement on Thursday afternoon, A
pot -luck supper was served at the
close of the tweeting.
At the armual United Church Young
People's Rally of Huron Presbytery
which was held- at Grand Beard Mon-
day, ,George Straughan was elected
Christian Citizenship convener for
the Presbytery.
The B.Y.P.U. will hold their month-
ly meeting in the Baptist Church on
Sunday evening, May 18th, The meet-
ing will be in charge of Mr. and Mrs.
Glen Raithley.
A number of the Young People at-
tended the Young People's Rally of
Huron Presbytery at Grand Bend on
Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. George Disney of D'a-
troit spent the weekend with friends,
here.
. Mrs. Chas. Asquith received the
sad. news of the death of her niece,
Mrs. Creighton Douise of Toronto.
The deceased, was formerly 'Joyce
Haughton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs,
Chas. Haughton of Toronto, and was
28 years old. She was well known
here, having visited several' times.
Special Mother's Day services, were
held in the churches last Sunday. At
Knox United Church a Mothers choir
led in the service of praise; at Knox
Presbyterian, Miss • Josephine Weir
favored with a solo, and at the Bap-
tist Church a Men's choir assisted in
the service.
Next Sunday Mr. A. W. Zurbiigg
of Listowel will be guest soloist at
the Baptist church.
Mrs. A. J. Ferguson, Miss Marg-
aret Ferguson, and Mrs. R. D. Munro
spent Saturday with Mr. and Mrs.
Murray at Drumbo.
Mr. George Patterson of Toronto
visited with Dr. B. C. Weir Tuesday.
Women's Institute
The Women's Institute held their
monthly meeting in the Foresters Hall
on Tuesday afternoon with the presi-
dent, Mrs. Lawson in the chair. The
meeting was opened by singing the
"Ocie" and repeating the Lord's Pray-
er in. unison. "0 Canada" and "The
Maple Leaf" were sung after which
Mrs. Woods led in prayer for our
boys overseas. The secretary, Miss
King, read the minutes of the previous
meeting, which were adopted. Mrs.
Lawson read a letter regarding the
Trillium, the emblem flower for On-
tario. Mrs. Mogridge, Mrs. Woods,
Mrs. Lawson and Mrs. Ross were ap-
pointed delegates to attend the Dist -
rid Annual at St. Helen's on May
31st. Mos, R. J. Phillips and Miss
Josephine Weir were appointed to
look after conveyance for anyone
wishing to go. It was decided to ask
for the Officers Rally and Quilt Niall
ing as District project. Current
events were given by Mrs. W. T.
Robison. Mrs. Fred Ross gave a reed-
ing. Mrs, Fred Oster, of Blyth, Dist-
rict president for North Huron was
present and gave a comprehensive
report of Silver Jubilee Convection
held in London, A 'hearty vote of
thanks was extended to Mrs, Oster
for her splendid address. Miss Jose-
phine Weir favored with a solo,
"Carry On". The Roll Gall was
answered by paying of fees. The
meeting was closed by singing the
National Anthem after ,,which a dainty
lunch was served by the hostesses:
Mrs. Wm. Dobie, Mrs. J. C. Stoltz,
and Mrs, Earl Raithby.

IN PERTH, 'HURON
Premier Mitchell Hepburn has an-
nounced that pending a decision of
the Privy Council of England on On-
tario's postponed appeal to test the
validity of the Canada Temperance
Act, the Liquor Control Act of the
province will be enforced in Peel„
Perth and Huron Counties and on
Manitoulin Island.
The hearing set foe June, was ad-
lou.ned on request of the lords of
the Privy Council, along with the
second appeal which concerns the
'Supreme Court of Canada Act. The
lords said proceedings should be stay-
ed until after the war and the prow-
ince concurred.
In connection with the temperance
dispute, the counties readopted the
C,T.A. in 1914 and 1915 and the
Supreme Court of Canada ruled in
1935 that the L.C.A. is less restric-
