Marys, visited with the lady's par-
ents on Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Elsley.
Mr. Tom Cole is visiting with Mrs.
Olive Sloan.
Mr. James McCool is making pre-
parations to commence building a new.
store to replace the one which was,
destroyed in the disastrous fire which
took place last fall.
Mr. T. Fairservice has sold out his
property to the White Rose Gasoline
Company who will build an up-to-date
service station. Many of the old build-
ings are being removed, also the front
part of the brick structure. When
this is done there will be quite a
clearing for the new station.
Mr. Fairservice has bought the
vacant lot next to the blacksmith
shop of Mr. D. Ewan, where he in-
tends erecting a house and other
buildings. Operations have already
commenced.
The regular meeting of the Wom-
en's Institute took place on Thursday
Last, with a good attendance. Mrs. R.
Fairservice in the chair. A letter from
the District Sec., advising the Dist-
rict Executive meeting to be held at
the home of Mrs. Oster, Blyth, on
May 6th; alsoa letter re conservation
of the "trillium", emblem flower of
a4o. Mrs. R. Fairservice [extended
an invitation for the Institute to
;meet at her hone for the June meet-
ing, which Will be Grandmothers Day.
Mrs. M. Manning" and Mrs. W. Bruns
don to arrange the program. Miss E.
Maine and Mrs. A. Wells convenors
for the lunch. The follow%tg stranding
committees appointed: Education,
Mrs. R. Fairservice; Legislation,' Mrs.
V. Roy; -Agriculture, Canadian In-
dustries, Mrs. S. Carter; Ilome Econ-
omics, Miss B. Kirk; C'anadianization,
Mrs, K. MeVittie; Peace and Inter-
deneminational Relationship, Mrs. J.
P. Manning; Health & Child Welfare,
Mrs. C. Crawford; Publicity, Mrs. B.
Brunsdon. This concluded the busi-
ness part. Dr. Douglas of Clinton
spoke on "The health of the Child
to Better Adult". Several questions
were asked by the ladies, the doctor
explaining all question asked, the 'talk
was very interesting and helpful. The
Red Cross meeting followed immed-
iately with Mrs. Fairservice taking
charge and opened by singing "Oh
Canada." The President read a daily
prayer. A vote of thanks was moved
by Mrs. Fairservice to all those who
took part in the National Concert,
also to the children who sold tickets.
A Red Cross meeting for all officers
will be field in Goderich on May 22nd.
It was moved that Mrs. Hall be put
on the buying committee and Mrs.
Nott the packing committee. Mrs. J.
Armstrong to assist 1VIrs. C. Craw-
ford who is at present i11, in the office
of treasurer. Meeting closed by sing-
ing National Anthem. A. splendid
lunch was served by the Institute
group in charge.

DEATHS
TAYLOR. In Toronto, on Friday,
May 3rd,' Joseph Taylor, formerly
of Clinton,, in his 85th year,
her cottage in the Highlands for the
season.
Mr. and Mrs. Philip Cook, London,
who recently bought the Galpin prop
erty on the lake front have arrived
at their cottage for the season.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Erwin and
Master Jerry of Kitchener, spent Sun-
ray in the village.
The Bayfield fish houses hum with
activity these days. The fishermeri.
of the village have bad poor seasons
for several years but Lady Luck is
attending their efforts this year. For
over a week there has been an ex-
ceptional run of perch and the largest
individual catches average a ton a
day. On Monday approximately five
tons of fish were shipped from Bay-
field. There are no idle hands among-
st the fishermen, all are needed to
clear the nets and pack.
Mrs. T. Bailey returned home from
London last week, she was accompan-
ied by her daughter, Mrs. Harold
Edwards, who will spend a fortnight
here.
Miss Margaret Ferguson of Tecum-
seh spent the weekend with her par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Ferguson.

At the annual 0cld Fellows Church
service on Sunday evening there was.
a splendid turnout, all lodges in dist-
rict No. 8 being represented. Rev.
Wright delivered an inspiring mes-
sage to the brethren ,and the service
was marked with a splendid quartette
number. Those taking part were Mrs.
Alton Johnston, Mrs. MeBeath, Jarvis
Horton, Sam Ronnie.

Tenders should be made on, the
forms supplied by the Department
and in accordance with departmental
specifications and conditions attached
thereto.
When the amount of a tender ex-
ceeds• the sum of $5,000.00—whether
it be for one building only or more ---
the tenderers must attach to their
tender a certified cheque on a chart-
ered bank in Canada, made payable
to the order of the Honourable the
Minister of Public Works, equal to 10
per cent of the amount of the tender,
or Bearer Bonds of the Dominion :of
Canada or of the Canadian National
Railway Company and, its constituent
companies, unconditionally guaranteed
as to principal and. interest by the
Dominion of Canada, or the afore-
mentioned bonds and a certified
cheque, if required ,to make up an
odd amount.
The Department also reserves the
right to demand from any successful
tenderer a security deposit itr the
form of a certified cheque or bond as
above, equal to 10 per cent of the
amount of his bid, to guarantee the
proper fulfilment of -Soo contract.
