B. Lobb. The camera was set up in front of the postoffice, facing north, shows the ring where judging is in progress, solidly packed with spectators on all three sides. EBENEZER The W.A. of Ebenezer Church met at the home of Mrs. Stanley Hayden on Thursday, May 2, with a good at- te,rance. The meeting opened with a hymn, followed by the minutes of the previous meeting, and the roll call. Among the items of business which were discussed, it wag decided that we have a lawn social in June, and a committee viz: Mrs. C. Will- iams, Mrs. W. Biggin, Mrs. S. Hay- den, Mrs. F. Lobb, was' appointed to make out a list of lawn committees for the social. The Scripture reading was taken by Mrs. E. Little, followed by prayer by Mrs. B. Lobb. Beth Hay- e'en sang a solo, and Mrs. Carman: Tebbut gave a reading. T11e meet- ing was closed with a hymn, follow- ed by the Mizpah Benediction. Lunch was served by Mrs. S. Hayden and Mrs, H. Williams. CONSTANCL The W. A. and W. M. S. will hold their monthly meeting in the base- ment of the church en Thursday af- ternoon. air. Visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Fralick: Misses Mary and Jean Fralick of Wingham, Mr. and Mrs. George Fralick of Toronto. Miss E. Schaabs, R.N„ of Brant- ford, spent a week visiting at the home of her sister, Mrs. Fralick and Mr. Fralick. were • attendants at the wedding of Miss Helen C. Manning of Clinton da Saturday afternoon. • The bride wore a gown of white net while the attendants were gowned alike in ada mist net. HOLMESVILLE A reception service was held in the United Ohurch Sunday morning when twelve new members were added to the church. E. V. Lawlor, formerly of Auburn, transferred his member- ship to the local church and eleven new members were admitted on con- fession of faith. They were Helen and Gertrude Bond, Bernice Grigg, Ruth and Grace Lawson, Gwendolyn and June Miller, Mary Jervis, Beta Yeo, Beth Cox and Lewis Dempsey. Rev. Wilding administered sacrament at the close of the service. The W. A. of the United Church presented their play, "His Women Folks,' at Brucefield, this being the third presentation of this popular play. It will also be presented at tsOI)ERICR TOWNS/11P Mr. Charles Ferguson and Miss Florence Lovett of London spent the' weekend with Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Stephenson. Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Rathwell spent Sunday at Stratford, with the latter°s mother, Mrs. Eckersviller. Mr. and Mrs, Robert Sterling are busy getting settled in their new home on the Bayfield Line. Mr. and Mrs. Warren Gibbings entertained friends from London and' Windsor on Sunday. Miss Margaret Middleton who is in training at Guelph General Hospital was home for a short visit last week- end. Mr. and MI s. Dav'd Lascm and Mr. and Mrs. Keith Feagan, of Nile, spent Sudsy with Mr. and Mrs. John Me- u,c.lane, Stanley township. VARNA Mr. J. Hagan of Hensell and Mr. D. Hagan of Parkhill were renewing acquaintances in the village one day last week. Miss Irene Chutor of London spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. Chutor. Mr. Thos. Stinson has sold his farm on the Babylon line to Mr. F. Reid. Rev. Mr. Peters and Mrs. Peters spent Tuesday hi London. Miss Frances Mossop attended the wedding dinner in Clinton on Friday eve, in honor of the bride-to-be, Miss Helen Manning. - Mr. and Mrs. W. MeAsh attended' the reception Friday evening in hon. of the newly-weds, Mr. and Mrs. Sterling of Goderich township. • Miss Mary Armstrong, R. N., of Toronto and Miss Frances Mossop Taylor's Corner. Rev. G. H. Wilding was a recent va+•.n +� Mr. and Mrs. Eastmond and family of Detroit were weekend visitors at the home of the latter's 'sister, Mrs. John Dempsey. Brogden lVIcMath has returned home after spending a few clays in Toronto. Former M.I'. is Called by Death James Bowman Represented Old Riding of Huron East James Bowman, members of the Dominion Parliament for 10 years from 1911-21, died at his home in Brussels on Thursday at the age of 79. He had been in good health un- til last week when he suffered a heart attack. Mr. Bownian was a Conservative member for the old riding of Huron East from 1911 to 1917, and was re- elected in 1917 in the redistributed riding of Huron North. Members of a pioneer Huron family, Mr. Bowman was born ire Morris Township and was. a prom- inent farmer until his retirement. At one time he was a resident of Toronto. Re is survived by his widow; one son, Robert J. at hone, and three daughters Mrs, J. R. Wheeler, Goderich; Mrs. J. H. Gal- braith, Brussels and Mrs. R. G. Scott, Bobcaygeon, Ont., and one brother, Joseph, Vineland, Ont. Mr. Bowman had many public in- terests serving as member of the Morris Township C'ouneil for four years, later being elected reeve, and in 1904 he was warden of Huron County.
