Miss Mary Houston. of South Pet-
supine spent the 'week ends with her
parents; Mr. and Mrs. John Houston.
The packing and inspection commit-
tee of the local red cross met and pack
ed the following shipment' to head-
quarters, Toronto: 29 quilts, 7•crib
quilts, 9 pair pillow cases, 8 pair py-
jamas, 5 sleeveless, sweaters, 4 turtle-
neck sweaters, 8 scarves, 3 ribbed,
helmets, 1 pair wristlets, 6 pair glov-
es, 23 pair service socks.
The monthly .meeting of the we-
men's Institute will be held in the
.Foresters Hall on Tuesday, Nov. -16th

A surprise birthday party was held
at the Irwin home for Mrs. Joseph 'Ir-
win who that day celebrated her birth-
day. The guests were received by Mia.
Clayton Ladd, daughter -iii -law and
Mrs. Irwin's two daughters, MFR. Geo.
Lawlor, Auburn, and Mrs, Thos. Park,
Dungannon. During the evening Jack
Ladd favored with .solos with guitar
accompaniment and=?36los'ivere sting'
by Donna Haggitt.

presented with a leather purse and
address was read by Mrs. Wtn. Hag-
gitt and the presentation made by
Mrs. C. A. Howson. Among those pre-
sent were Mrs. Jas. Woods, Mrs. How-
son, Mrs John Arthur, Mrs H. Wag-
ger, Mrs. E. Phillips, Miss Margaret
Mile. Fern Lawlor and Jack Larld.

The Baptist Ladies Aid held. their
November Meeting in the Sunday

Red Cross quilt was quilted. The pro-
gram opened by singing of a hymn.

all who had taken part in the pro-
gram and to Mrs. Snell for her splen-

Bible Society Meeting
A aneeting in the interests •of the
Upper Canada Bible Society was held
in St. Mark's Anglican church on
Sunday evening. The Rector Rev, P.
H. Streeter, was in charge and a: union
choir led in the service of praise: Rev.
Dr. A. 0. Thompson of Knox Presby-
terian church read the scripture from
the 19th Psalm and 1st chapter of
St. John's 'Gospel. Rev. Streeter gave
the address on "The History of the
Bible", The offering was'in Aid of the
Bible•. Society. Miss Josephine Weir
rendered an appropriate solo. Mr.
Chas Asquith president of the Bible
