with her brother Mr. Wm. Dodd sr
'and Mrs. Dodd.
Mr. and, Mrs. W. L. Robinson spent
the week end with Mr. and Mrs, 3.

Commencing next Sunday and con-
tinuing during the winter months ser-
vice at Knox Presbyterian Church
will be at 10.30 a.m. except the last
'Sunday in the month when it will be'
at 7.30 in the evening.
The first theft to occur in this tlis-
`triet in a long time occurred on Wed-
nesday night when thieves broke into
the garage of Earl Riithby and. stole
two tires. The entrance was made by
tearing some boards off the garage.
'They left the jack under thewheal of
the car. Mr. Raithby missed some
gas the night before.
Clayton Ladd and son Jack who
have Horsier pigeons are members of
the Goderich Homer Racing Chib.
They have flown their old Homers in
the 'races from ' Stratford, through
Acton, Toronto, Port Hope, Napanee,
Brocicville and Montreal.
For the young Homers Ladd's Re-
nters won the silver cup by winning
the, first 3` races' making 400 points.
The young 'Homers flew a ,course
from Stratford, Ititehener, George-
town. Toronto and Port Hope. In the
3rd race from Georgetown Ladd's
Homer's flew 106 airline miles in 2
hours and 43 minutes averaging 1134
yards per minute. Jack's young"Blue
bar Buddy" won 2nd and 3rd races
to win the cup,
The Ladd's have kept Homers for
the past 7 years. and train donated
16 Homers to .the R.C.A.F. for ser-
vice to Vancouver B. C., and Dart-
mouth N. S.
Communion will be observed in
Knox Presbyterian Church next Sun-
day morning at 10.30. ' Preparatory
service will be held Friday evening at
8 o'clock.

The Salvation Army Corps of God-
erich under the direction of Lieuten-
ant Elizabeth McArthur %vas in charge
of the B.Y.P.U. meeting on Thurs-
day evening.
The members of the Corps present
were Lieutenant MVIcArthur, Mr. and
Mrs. Reid, Aircraftman Jackson, Port
Albert accompanied by Rev. Alien
of Colborne,
Lieutant. McArthur as the speaker
of the evening and a solo was rend-
ered by Aircraftman Jackson:
The Red Shield drive is making
good progress already over $45 has
been recieved and the chairman
hopes to pass the record of $87 'se-
cured last year. Donations may be left
with the chairman Alfred Rollinson.
Death of John Wagner
John Wagner passed away at the
home of his sister. Miss • Katherine
Wagner on Friday following an ill-
ness of two months. He was the son
of John Wagner and Katherine Yung
hint and was born April 6th, 1863
on the farm now owned by his neph
ew Fred Wagner. His wife, who was
formerly Margaret Broughn died 24
years ago.
Mr Wagner was widely known rail-
road man having served first on the
C.P.R. and later as station agent with
the C.N.R. at Thessalon, Winnipeg,
Copper Cliff, North Bay, Sudbury and
spent 20 years at Port Dover, During
hit stay there bis wife died and eight
years ago he retired. from. Port Dov-
er, and since then •had lived with his
sister in Auburn. Ile was a member
of the Lutheran Chu ;eh. Survivin r
are one son Vivian, Toronto, a grand-
daughter, Marjorie Wagner;. Toronto,
one sister Katherine and one brother
Harry both of. Auburn, A brother Jae -
ab Wagner passed away in July. The
funeral was held on Tuesday after-
noon .and 'was conducted by Rev. Dr.
A. 0. 'Thompson of "Knox Presbyter
rap Church.During the service, Mrs,
Bonthron of Ilensall Sang two ap-
propriate numbers. The pall bearers
were Walter, 'John, William and Fred
Wagner, Jas. Jackson and Gordon'
Taylor. The flowers were carried by
Misses Minnie, Bertha and Marjorie
Wagner, ,Mrs.' Jas Jackson and Mrs.
Fred Wagner. Interment took place
in Ball's Cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Ken Merner and fam-
ily spent Sunday with Mr, and Mrs.
Ted Wallis.
Mr.' and Mrs Fred Burgess and
daughter Maureen, of London, spent
the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Ar
thur Welsh.
Willow Grove, the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Harvey Jenkins, was the scene
of a happy gathering on Friday even-
ing last, when S. S. No. 11 and friends
and neighbors, gathered to wish thein
BonVoi on the eve of their departure
'for their new home in Clinton, The
evening was spent in games and var-
ied program. After which Mr. Roy
Tyndall read an address and Mrs. Rees
Jenkins and Mr. David Lindsay, pre-
sented the happy couple with an el-
ectric table lamp and lovely mirror.
To which Mr. Jenkins on behalf of
himself and• his wife thanked those
present for their beautiful gifts, and
hoped that ,they would be able to
spend many more such pleasant even-
ings, with their old neighbors and
friends and: invited them to visit them
in their new home. After which a
dainty lunch was served by the ladies
present. And all departed'afterwish-
ing Mr. and Mrs. Jenkins many years
of health and happiness in their new
