Double. Wedding at St• James Church
S& James' Church(1Viiddleton) was
the scene of an anusnal and interest-
ing event in the form' of a double
wedding on Saturday afternoon, Nov-
ember 14th, at three o'clock when
:Daphne Marjorie Colclough became
rthe bride of G. Harold Johnston of
!Goderich Township' and Effie Jean
'Johnston became the bride of John
'W. Henderson of Stanley Toweiship.
Nev. John Graham, rector of St.
James? officiated.' The church was
!'beautifully decorated for the occas -
lion, with white and yellow mums and
seeders.
The bride`s entered :the different
-.aisles' on the arms of their fathers to
the strains of the wedding march play,
•ed by Mrs, John Middleton. Their
'dresses although not alike, were both
'white sheer over satiny floor length,
.and they wore shoulder length veils

Dr. A. L. Cole, MTs. Cole and Mrs.
.McNally of Goderich spent Sunday

Mrs. Nelson Hill of Goderich spent
the week end with her mother, Mrs.
Jas. Garter.
Mrs. John Grainger of Brucefield
'.spent Sunday with Mrs. Fred Ross.
Pilot Officer Eugene Dobie who has
been stationed in Quebec is spending
a short time at his' home here prior
'to leaving for Manitoba where he
will take a course.
Gunner Earl/ Craig of Petawawa vis-
ited his brother Bert Craig.
Mrs. Annie Wolper and Mrs Gordon
'"Snell have received word from their
sister Mrs. Horne, Windsor stating
that her son Rodney Horne, who was
taken prisoner by the Ape in October
-1941 has been released and has arriv-
ed in England. His parents had not
-beard from him for over a year. •
Mrs. Charles Jones and baby have
returned home from Wingham Hos-
-pital.
Visitors at the home of Dr. B. C.
Weir on Sunday were Miss Edythe
Beacom, Londesboro, Mr. Duncan Mc-
Kay, of Kintail,' Mr. Colin Young of
'Carlow and Sergt. Keith Young of
"Toronto.

Mrs. Harvey McGee gave her home
'for the W.M.S. of Knox Presbyterian
'Church. Mrs. R. J .Scott presided, the
scripture was read responsively and
' prayer was offered by Mrs. Scott.
':Mrs. John Huston gave a report of
'the Executive meeting held recently
"in Clinton. A chapter on Education
' from the book "The church in Action"
was read by Mrs. Ross, a solo was ren
dered by Miss Josephine Weir. Chap -
"ter. from the study book was given
by Miss Isobel Scott, The 'Tidings'
prayer was read in unison. Fifteen
'members answered the roll call with a
•verse of scripture containing the word
"Obey" Mrs. Geo. Yungblut invited
the ladies to her hone for the Decem-
' ber meeting. The meeting was closed
by repeating the Lords' prayer in uni-
son. A dainty lunch was served' by
the hostess.

Mrs. C. Henry, Gull Lake, Sask.,
is visiting her sisters, Mrs. M. Arm -
'strong and Mrs. Nelson McLarty.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Nicholson and
'daughter Karin of Galt spent the week
end with Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Wilson.
The,Walkerburn Ladies' Club met
at the home of MTs. William Arch-
ambault. A large abtendance was
present and the roll call was answer-
ed by a verse of scripture containing
the word "Pease". Patriotic. readings
were given by Mrs. James Jackson,
"Miss Elsie Patterson and Mies Max-
• ine Ball. Two quilts were complet-
ed. Mrs'. Ernest Patterson invited the
,,Club to her home for the next meet-
ing. Lunch was served.
Leatheeland—On Friday, Novem-
ber 13th to Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Leath=
erland. of Gravel road, a son.
On Sunday, Anniversary' services
were held in Knox Presbyterian church
when the 83rd anniversary of Presby-
'terianism in Auburn and the 14th an-
niversary of the erection of the pre-
sent edifiee were observed. Since the
last anniversary the church property
has been enhanced by the gift of the
late Mr. W. T. Riddell's beautiful
'home to be used as a manse. Rev.
Wm. Weir of H.ensall was the guest
speaker and he delivered' two inspir-
ing and, timely messages. At the
"morning service his discourse was on.
"The Sanctity of- Our Heritage" and
'' in the evening he delivered a stirring
challenge on "How God Deals, with
"Nations." At the morning service the
choir sang "Saviour Like a Shepherd
Lead Us" and Miss Josephine Weir
rendered. "There's a Beautiful Land
' on. High." At the evening service the
• choir !rendered. two anthems. Holy
Holy, Holy" and "The Home of the
° Soul" and Miss Weir sang' "The
' Stranger of Galilee."
caught with flowers. Miss Colclough
carried Johanna Hill Rases with blue
'ribbon and Miss Johnston carried Tat-
isman Roses with; bronze ribbon. Dur-
ing the signing of the register Mr.
Gordon' Ross, of Clinton sang "Be-
cause."
After the eeremony,a reception was
held in the basement of the church,+
for the immediate 'families, the girls
in Daphne's Sunday School Class wait-
ed on the beautifully decorated tables,
the colour scheme being pink and
white. The brides' cake formed the
centre, piece surrounded by pink can-
dles. The guests were received by
Mrs. Colelough, wearing black crepe
with corsage of white mums and Mrs.
Johnston, also wearing black with cor-
sage of white mums. Rev. Graham
proposed' the toast to the brides which
was responded to by both bride-
grooms.
Later the young couples left on a
short honeymoon trip amid showers
of confetti, one couple going east and
the other couple going' south. Mrs.!
Johnston and: Mrs. Henderson both
wore blue crepe dresses and matching
accessories.
On their return they will reside in
Clinton.

Mrs. J. H. Cobb who has spent the
past few months in Banff and Ottawa
has returned to be with her mother
Mrs. Minnie Ross. . •
Mr. and Mrs. Norman Toms of De-
troit spent the week and with the
former's mother, Mrs. E. Toms.
Mrs. J. Graham returned on Friday
from the Clinton Hospital and is re-
cuperating at the Rectory.
Mr. G. Howard aril his sister, Mrs.
M. Mason, who were here attending
the funeral of their aunt,. Mrs. Martha
Castle, returned to Detroit on Satur-
day.
Messrs J. Howard, Walter Westlake
and George Little left on Sunday for
a hunting trip to Manitoulin Islami.
Clarence, son of Mr. and Mts. Rhen-
ny Larson, left last. week for London,
where he will attend a course in War
Work, at the Technical school there.
We regret to report that Mr. Harry
Darrow is in poor health. He was
taken to Clinton Community Hospital
on. Tuesday evening.
Mr. and Mrs, Win. McDonald of De-
troit spent the week end with their
parents, Mr .and Mrs. Henry Weston.
Lance -Cpl. Borden Clarke of Ip-
perwash and Pte. Keith Gemeinhardt
of Camp Borden were at their homes
in the village for the week end.
Miss Helen Sturgeon who is employ-
ed at the Clinton Knitting Mills spent
the week end with her parents.
Mr, and Mrs. Alvin Holm, and son
Roy Holm from Preston and Pte Earl
Holm from Listowel spent the week
end with Mr .and Mrs. Henry McClin-
chey.
Messrs Harold Stinson and Doug-
las' Gemeinhardt were the first Bay-
field hunters to bag deer on Mon-
day in this locality. Doubtless the
thence song of the deer in Goderich
township this week will be "South
of the. Border."
Messrs. C. and D,. Gemeinhardt, J.
Apflebeck, J. Robinson, G. Elliott and
J. Parker are among those to whom
the members of 'the Library Board are
indebted, for helping with the Bean
Feast held in the Town Hall on Tues-
day of last week. Few realize the val-
ue of our Library and the Board de-
serves the whole -hearted support of
all in this district.
The many friends of Mrs. Albert
Leach who was taken to the Goderich
Hospital on Monday suffering from
pneumonia andpleurisy wish for her
a speedy recovery.

Mr. Fred Austin of Flint Mich. now
in the U. S. Army spent the past week
with his mother, Mrs. A. Austin and
family. ; ' '
Mr. and Mrs. Jas. McAllister and
family were guests at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. D. Anderson on Sunday.
The annual Remembrance Day ser-
vice was held in the township hall
on Wednesday Nov. llth. Rev. G. F.
N. Atkinson, of Brucefield, and• Rev.
Reba Hern of Varna were in charge
of the service. Following the serviee
all marched to the cenotaph where
wreaths were placed in memory of the
soldiers who sacrificed their lives.
W; sre very sorry to report that
Mr. Jae. McAsh is confined to his
bed but his many friends hope soon
to see him up sed : around' again.
Mr. and Mrs. Seeley of Clinton, and.
Mr, and Mrs. W. Austin df Seaforth
were guests at the home of Mrs. Aer.

The meeting of the S. S. No. 11''Red
Cross Group and Ratepayers which
Was postponed last week will be held'
at the home of Mrs. Gordon Cudmore
this Friday evening, November '20th.
A full attendance is requested as the
election of 'officers for the coming
year is to take. place.
On Tuesday evening lash' the mem-
bers of St. James Church Middleton
and neighbors of hIr. and Mrs. Wil-
ferd Colclough,; gathered` at their home
to honor their daughter Daphne Mar-
jorie, prior to her marriage to MT.:
Harold Johnston. After all had assem-
bled the bride-to-be was •seated at a
table in the dining room, which was
laden with a -shower of 'miscellaneous
articles. Mrs. Bert Roivden read an.
address expressing the good wishes
of all for future happiness in her new
home.
Daphne made a fitting reply and
thanked all for the thoughtfulness. A
dainty lunch was served and the even-
ing was spent in games and dancing.

The annual business meeting of the
South End Red Cross Unit will be
held in the basement of St, James'
Church Middleton, on Wednesday ev-
ening, November 25th. The commun-
ity is urged to attend and share in
this needy work.
Mrs. James Johnston is visiting in
London with her brother, John Mc-
Naughton.
Mrs. John Beacom is this week mov-
ing to her new home in Clinton, which
she recently bought from Mrs. Mill-
er.
Mr.' and Mrs. Arthur Welsh and
Mrs. Fred Wallis' spent Monday in
London with Mr. and Mrs. E. F.
Reed.
Mr. and' Mrs. Randal Pepper re-
turned to Warren on Monday, Mrs.
Pepper has been with her parents
the last two weeks.
The deer season opened on Monday
North of the Bayfield River. It is to
be hoped the deer will be plentiful
and the accidents few.

the following boys overseas, Stanley

Bill Little, E. Garrett, and H. Ross.
Each hex weighing 8 lbs. They each
contained 1 pair home knit socks; 1
lb Christmas Cake, 1 large pkg Cig-
arettes, 2 pkg guns, 1 comb, 1 bath
towel, 1 bar soap, 1 can soup, 1 can
Sardines, Chocolate Bars, salted pea-
nuts, chocolate coated peanuts, writ-
ing paper and envelopes 25c box
glazed fruits and mixed hard candy.
Miss Alice Fingland and James Mc-
Cool assisted the committee in charge.

her mother Mrs. E, Lee for a few
weeks returned to her home at Mar -
mora on Monday.
Mrs. Wm. Radford of Blyth is
spending the winter with Miss L.
Young.
Mrs. Albert Radford held a success-
ful Red Cross' quilting and pot luck
supper on Tuesday of this week.
Miss Jennie. Austin is not as well'as
her friends would like to see her. We
hope to hear of an improvement in
het' condition.
Mms. J. Tanblyn is visiting at the
home of Mr. Roy Stonehouse, Gode-
rich this week.
Miss B. Kirk visited at Wingham
on Tuesday.
The regular meeting of the W. M.
S. was held on Thursday last at the
church. In the absence of the Presi-
dent, Miss L. Young presided. Meet-
ing opened by singing the National
Anthem followed with the daily pray-
er for peace. During the business
session, the group captains were ap-
pointed as a committee to bring in the
slate. of Officers for the coming year.
It was agreed that the society, pre-
sent.. the Baby Band with their mag-
azine. At the conclusion of business
Mrs. T. Adams took the chair, Hymn
380 was sung Mrs, F. Tamblyn 'a read-
ing "The F,armHome," Mrs. F. Wood
read the scripture passage, Mrs. 5,
Carter and Miss B• Kirk each gave
readings, Mrs: Menzies' led in prey -

Voters' Lists Act and that I have
posted up in my office at Clinton, on
the 31st day of October, 1942, the list
of all persons entitled to, vote in the
said Municipality at Municipal elec-
tions and that such list remains there
for inspection.
And I hereby call upon all voters
to take immediate proceedings to have
any errors, or omissions corrected ac-
cording to law the last day for appeal
