The opening date of the catnpaign.is May 11 and continues till May 26. Since the List campaign in Octobei 1940, the people of Canada have re- sponded generously and willingly to special Red Cross appeals. The thousands of women volunteers across Canada have sewed and knitted con- tinuously on supplies for our armed forces .(air ,sea and land), for the bomb victims in Britain and for our hospitals. The high objective is necessitated, by the steadily increasing need for Prisoners of War parcels which, are packed weekly and sent to the many thousands of Canadian and British who are prisoners in alien countrys, 'and who otherwise would. not be provided with a balanced diet to maintain health. As time goes on it is expected these parcels will have to be greatly increased in numbers each parcel costs approximately $2.50. When the Red Cross asks the peo- ple of Varna district for funds to con- tinue the Mulituclinous duties •of the society the appeal will not be in vain, for they know what this comforting "lamp" means in a world darkened by destruction and tragedy, canvassers have been assigned to the different sections of the community and will be calling at your home, (objective $800.), v District Executive Meetings' Meld The yearly executive meeting of the Women's Institute for West Hur- on, was held at Town Hall, Wingham,, an Monday p.ntMay 4th.
