Brief mention was made last week.
of the death of Samuel Alfred Mof-
fatt, a former resident cf Stanley
township, but for some years a resi-
dent of London.. Mr. Moffatt was a'
son e`f the late. W. D. Moffatt, e'no of
Sta,nley township's pioneers. He was
born at Killeen in 1851 and resided
oat the old homestead' until 1901,
when he removed with his family' to
Iaondon. In April 1874 he became
general' agent `for Harris & Son,
Brantford, and remained' with them'
until they amalgamated with the
-Massey (people.` -He set up the first
binders used in Huron, Bruce, Perth
,and Oxford counties. After twenty-
one years as a travelling roan he re-
tired and devoted his time to Diall-
ing for a few years, then travelled
for one or two other implement cont-
panies`and since going to London bas
been in the employ ra A., B. Greer and
Son. He had taken out railway cer-
tificates for the past forty-five years.
And Mr. Moffatt made a point during.
all his life to be at home for Sunday.

keen interest. in public affars, being
a member of the township councilfor
some years and eves also a school
trustee." In polities he was a Corner-
vative, and was .always intelligently,
interested in the affairs of the tour=
*Sr. He.was a member of th'e Orange
Order, the Oddfellows, and the Can-
adian Order, of Foresters. Re was
also an active -member of Knox' Un.
ited . Church, London.
'Surviving; are his widow; Mist Ag-
nes Moffatt, one son, Dr. Lloyd Mof-
fatt of London, and two daughters,
Mrs. Fair, who resides with her moth-
er, and: Mts. W. L..Mnrray. of Ham-
ilton. Mrs. M. Pickett''and Mr. J. A.
Moffatt, both of Clinton, a brother
and sister, are trier only surviving
members.of a family", of eight.
A memorial service was condueted
at his late residence, Byron sheet,
London, on Friday afternoon last, the
Rev. 1Vlaleolm MoArthur of •Kn'x
church and Rev. D. C. McGregor of
St, Andrew's United Church taking
part. On Saturday the remain -1 ware
brought to Varna and a service was
conducted at the country home of Dr.
Lloyd Moffatt, the two ministers ae••
eompanying the funeral and ceeduet--
lirg the service here and at the grave-
side A large number of old friends'
and neighbors attended the funeral
here. The, remains were reverently
laid in• the family plot in Baird's cem-
etery.

his parents •on Friday, Nov. 6th,
Grant, beloved son of Mr. and Mrs. T.
Addams. In the: early summer. Grant
wastaken sickg, all that medical
aid could do was done but of no avail
Grant, who was eleven years df age,
was very cheerful and patient during
his long illness. He leaves to„ mourn
his early death, his parents, one sis-
ter and two brothers. The•funeral
took place on Monday from the AngIi-
can. church. Interment took plaice in
BaIl's cemetery,. Rev. J.. Hawkins
conducted the services. The sympathy
of the community goes out to the be-
reaved ones.-
