The first fire that has occurred in
our village in fifteen years took place
last Thursday. evening, when Mr. R.
Carter, the barber, went to light the
'gas stove, which ,exploded. The fire
spread)rapidly, desti'zlying the con-
tents acrd damaging the building. "lhe
chemical engine was soon on hand,
and the fire under' control. Mr. Car-
ter's clothes- ilhught, and in trying to
extinguish the fire he. had his hands
badly burnt.-' Thebuilding is owned
by Mr. G. Sturdy:- We understand.
