Rev D. N. McCamus, formerly of
Clinton was chairman of the commit-
tee appointed' to draft the special
message to be delivered to the sev-
eral Methodist congregations of the
London conference on June '7th, the
Sunday prior to the consummation of

Yesterday, May 27th, at high noon
at the Ontario street parsonage,
Alice Mae, daughter of Mr. Albert
0, Vodden of Clinton, was united in
marriage to Mr, James Howard
Shobbrook, son of Mr. James Shob-
brook of"Hullett, the Rev`.`0 J. Moor-
` house officiating.' The young couple
were attended by Mr. and Mrs. Nor-
man Manning of the London road.
The bride looked charming in a blue
silk canton crepe gown, with lace
trimmings. She also wore the bride-
groone's gift, a string of pearls. Af-
ter the ceremony the bridal party re-
turned to the hone of the bride's
father, where a dainty buffet lunch-
eon was served. At this bridal feast
three newly married couples were
present, Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Vodden,
who were married' a few weeks ago,
Mr, and Mrs. N. Manning, who were
harried last week, and the bride and
groom.. Afterwards the happy couple
left on the afternoon train for Kit-
chener, Niagara Falls and other.
points east, the bride travelling in a
brown flat, silk crepe, dress with bead
trimming, rust colored coat, trimmed
with fur, and sand hat. On their re-
turn they will reside on the groom's
beautiful farm, Fairview, on , the
18th concession of Hullett. The
young couple have the best .wishes
of their many friends for a long and
happy married life, ,

The Salvation Army Life Saving
Scouts of the World to be started, in
Clinton. Mr. Roy Cook : has been
appointed by Captain -F. J. Clarke as
Leader: of this Scout Troop for Clin-
ton. It is hoped to have a very fine
Troop of Scouts in ;Clinton after' a
few weeks ' of training, and Scout
Leader Cook has been asked to get
the" boys together as soon as ppssi-
All boys that have been Scouts are
invited to report at 'the°Salvation
Army and all boys
that would
like to be. Scouts to sign up, as train-
ing will !begin in a few days.
CADET, INSPECTION.
Cola Gillispie of London , was in
town Friday afternoon inspecting the
Clinton. Collegiate Cadets and a fine
appearance the sixty, or so uniformed
boys made as they paraded, marched
and •punter -marched before the in-
spector. Those who witnessed the
parade saw little to criticize but Col.
Gillispie did not give just quite so
good a repori; as last year.
Joe Higgins was first in command;
Kenneth Rorke, second; N. McNeiI
and R. Carter, platoon` commanders;
W. Hovey, sergeant -major; G.
Thompson, quartermaster sergeant;
C. Shipley, leader of the bugle band
and N. Kennedy leader of the signal-
lers.
CLINTON STUDENT WINS MEDAL
The School of Commerce had the
pleasure during the past week of pre-
senting td Miss Mary McCowan of
Seaforth, Ont., a Gold Medal award-
ed by the Remington Type Co., for
proficiency in Typewriting. The .re-
quired standing for this Medal is
that a student should type, on new
work, for ten minutes at a net rate
of 55 words per minute with not
more than 5 errors. Mies McCowan
exceeded this standing by. Writing at
60 words per 'minute absolutely With-
out error. This record was consid-
ered so exceptional and commendable
that letters were received from the
managers of both the London and
Toronto offices of the Remington Co,.
congratulating both the School and
the student on the excellency of the
work.
Miss McCowan received ` her Di-
ploma front the school on Friday and
left on Monday for Toronto where -a
position awaits her.
,A:FATAL ACCIDENT.
itir. R. A. Hearn received word on
Saturday of the ,death of his eldest
brother, William, of Viola, Michigan.
His team, becoming unmanageable,
ran away and threw. him out of the
rig, when he was thrown violently
against a , post. He never regained
consciousness. •
Mr. Hearn was a pioneer of Huron
county. He came with his parents to
th'e township ,of .,McKillop when that
section: was a wilderness, settling- on
rine 14th concession. .He wasmarried
sixty years' ago to Perneley Payne
daughter of 'the late Geo. Payne of
the same township. About thirty.
years ago they moved to the united
States, settling at Viola, Mich., where
they have since made their home. He
was a member of the 1.0.0.F. and the

and two daughters: David of Viola,

WINS' COVETED DEGREE.
Mrs. D, E. Ross; s, who has been stay-
ing in Clinton for some months, re-
ceived a cable yesterday from her
husband, Dr. D. E. Ross, advising her
that he had received the degree of
Fellow of the Royal- College of Sur-
geons ot
ur-geons'of London, a very exclusive de-
gree and one which very few, Canad-
ians hold, Somie time ago Dr. ROSS
received the degree 'of F. R.•C.'S. of
Edinburgh. He sails for home to-
morrow and is 'expected to join his
wife and children here in -ten days or
so. . Dr. Ross is ,a graduate of the
Clinton Collegiate and is well-known
here. 'His old friends congratulate
him warmly on his success in hie-

mittee and business people of town

last night and was fairly well at-

hands of a committee, sub -commit-
