The. Doukhobors situated in the
Canadian west, are said to be prepar-

bors, although industrious and thrifty
have never been ideal citizens, as
they keep themselves to themselves
too much and have not conformed to
Canadian laws, even refusing to send
their children to the Provincial
schools. We are under'. the impression
however that they will get a rude

send' a few of their number ahead to
spy out the hind before making the
final trek. There are wore& places

fancy Russia may be one of them.

• POOREST SPECIMEN OF
• IIIUMANITY
One of the poorest : specimens. of
humanity we know is the fellow who
goes around grouching about the town
being dead. Every small community
has this insect and he certainly is
not te.be rated -among its assets. This
individual laments the fact that no
progressive movements are on foot
forthetown's improvement and yet
whenever a live suggestion isbrought
forward he Is against it every time
because there is somethin • or other
the natter: with it and he goes around
discouraging others who 'are inter-
eited inthe scheme. It constantly'
makes him sore, he says, the 'vey
the townspeople won't pull together.
Yet he himself is the biggest knocker
in the eonrrnunityl This town grouch
never startp,anything new because be.
makes himself ;believe that it ,is no

anything in this "god -forsaken placel"
The reran who will 11e111 the town to
prosper, and fortunately tine Blass of

in the town, is the citizen who cheer-
fully lends his support to every move-
ment for the town's advancement,
whowill <banish prejudice and "give

welfare.' And when he sees some
opportunity for public improvement
or has a new idea he will hopefully
advance it. . His ideals for his Moine
