Rev.8, J. Assns has been trans-
ferred from the Toronto td the ,Lem -
don, Conference of the United Church,
Mr.,A'ilin was originally a member
of the 'London' Conference of the
Methodist Church but 'since his sup-
erannuation he has resided in 7 oronto
and was transferred to that Confer
ence.' Now he is coming back. Mr.
and firs. Allin are well known in this
vicinity, he having spent one term as
pastor of Ontario street church.

WEDNESDAY RALF IHOLIDAY.
The Wednesday half holiday is to
be. observed in Clinton again this S
year commencing the first Wednes-
day in May, and ending with Septem-
her. All the merchants have not
agreed to close this • year, but the •
greater number will, including' all the
groceries.', It may be that others will
do so later on.
As we have suggested 'before,
it would be a better plan to have a
merchants' association or something
of this sortorganized, which could

kind, instead of having to go about
each year with a petition. The News
Record would like to have Thursday
afternoon instead of Wednesday, and
if that day were' chosen ,would come
in for at least part of the time. Wed-
nesday is tho busy an afternoon in a
weekly ndwspaper office too take a
holiday. But Wednesday seems to be
the popular day with the majority, so
we are left to _plug away six days a
week, and we., do as much or more
night work than anybody.
SOFT BALL LEAGUE.
A meeting for the purpose of. form-
ing a town Soft Ball League was
held on Monday evening in the Knit-
ting Company Club rooms,, when the
following committee was appointed:

i11, E. Walton, P.' Livermore, with J.
L. Heard, secretary.'-
An effort is being made by the com-
mittee to have all the industiTs,
churches, etc., organize twins to -com-
pete in this 'town league and it is
hoped warm interest will be taken.
All nanios.of players are to be hand-
ed in to the secretary of this com-
mittee or other member of it by May
10th, when a schedule will be drawn...
up and practise begun. A cup will
be provided for competition of the
teams.
A town league' will furnish some
good practise for the players and
aerie fine sport for those of us too
old, or stiff, oazy to take an active
Bart in the games and such an or-
ganization ought to -receive the sup-
port of all the citizens of town and
community.
